Moriarty Asks What Happens When You Hate A Film You Want To Love! DIARY And BE KIND Reviewed!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

Okay... I’ll cop to it.

I’ve had a wicked case of writer’s block regarding reviews for the last few weeks, and a big part of it is because I saw two films that I fully expected to enjoy, films that came from filmmakers I have boundless respect for, and my near-total rejection of both films actually stopped me cold.

Hey Chicago!! Capone Wants To Show You DIARY OF THE DEAD On Valentine's Day!! [Deadline Tonight @ Midnight!!]

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

There are two things that truly scare a man: zombies and Valentine's Day. So to all of you Chicago-area men-folk, I've got a proposition for you. How would you like to combine the two? I've got a limited number of passes (each pass is good for two) to see GEORGE ROMERO'S DIARY OF THE DEAD on Valentine's Day (the evening of February 14, to be precise) in the Windy City.

SUNDANCE ’08! One Spy’s Breathless Report on DIARY OF THE DEAD And HAMLET 2!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Normally I’d at least throw in a few paragraph breaks, but I like the way this guy’s one solid paragraph sort of imparts his enthusiasm for the entire experience. Like he just couldn’t wait to tell us.

And I love his nickname. Made me laugh. Because I am evidently thirteen years old.

Romero unleashes the DIARY OF THE DEAD trailer!

Hey folks, Harry here - George Romero has unleashed from his Myspace page - the first trailer for DIARY OF THE DEAD. This will be a new beginning for Romero's Zombie mythology - some will hate it, others will love it - I loved it - many in Toronto did the same. And apparently we're getting a sequel that picks up right where this one leaves off. Here's George...

George Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD is a Fantastic start to FANTASTIC FEST - so says Harry!

I've known Quint since he was literally a child. I'm very proud of the man he's become, but after reading his review of George Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD... I am left absolutely flabbergasted. Rather than dissect his review and point out several catty remarks I can make about his piece... I'm just going to give you my take.

I've seen DIARY OF THE DEAD six times now. I love the film completely. Here's why...

George does something so incredibly daring, something so far fetched in the minds of his fans - that it causes some to freak the fuck out. He has made a Zombie film that dares to act as though George Romero never existed. Imagine that.

Quint puts a bullet in the head of George Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. When I first heard the concept of George A. Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD I wasn’t exactly taken with it. The pitch line was BLAIR WITCH meets NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and that didn’t sound at all interesting to me.

However it was George Romero and he’s earned a lot of trust when it comes to Zombie movies. I wasn’t sold, but I kept my faith in Romero’s vision.

The film opens with some raw news footage, what is widely regarded as the first footage capturing the zombie outbreak. It’s one camera with a newscaster preparing her report. You hear the cameraman as they go over what the report is going to look like. They’re covering an apparent murder in a rather poor apartment complex.

TIFF! Another Spy Takes A Page From Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’m intrigued by the way this one seems to be dividing audiences. I quite liked LAND OF THE DEAD myself, so I’m hoping this offers another new take on this familiar material from the man who basically owns the genre.

Let’s see what this spy thought:

Hey gang,

Long time reader, first time contributor. I just caught a screening of George Romero's "Diary of the Dead" at the TIFF yesterday and thought I'd share a few of my thoughts on the flick. I know you guys don't give a shit how long I waited in line or what I had for breakfast yesterday morning, so we'll just jump right into the review.

The Weinsteins stumble around looking for brains with George Romero!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm really interested in seeing Romero talk at the Alamo in 9 days time when he opens Fantastic Fest with DIARY OF THE DEAD. I've nearly missed him a couple of times in the last few years, having been out of town for his last big Alamo event and there was an interview in Pittsburgh that fell through as I was in town.

So, I'll finally get to see the man in the flesh... maybe I'll get him to sign my original DAWN OF THE DEAD one-sheet I have framed in my bedroom... I am a geek. I'm not ashamed!

The good news is that The Weinstein Co.

Anton Sirius on George Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD in Toronto!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Anton Sirius sent in this review from Toronto of George Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD. I absolutely agree with Anton's review here. Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD I fell in love with. First off - it is its own universe. Second - this is the first time that George has taken on the zombie tale from the point of view of youth. Here you have a group of college aged kids that when the world goes upside down... they just want to go home. And the horror of finding out what home is in a world of the living dead... well, it's painful. I'm proud that we're getting to bring George and this film to FANTASTIC FEST in about a week. Here's Anton with more details on the film...

TIFF! Magoo Returns With Reviews Of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Part of the allure of Toronto is that they have a fantastic midnight movie line-up every year, and it seems like one of this year’s highlights must be the debut of George Romero’s latest zombie film. I’m practically frantic to see NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN at this point, but at least I know that one’s going to be in theaters soon. With DIARY OF THE DEAD, I’m not sure how long I’ve got to wait, so this review is going to have to hold me over until I can lay eyes on it for myself:

Hey Fellas! Magoo here

Cop zombie! DIARY OF THE DEAD pics hit the net!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here.

I'm on record as not completely agreeing with Romero's idea for a new DEAD film. I've take a little flack from hardcore Romero fans, including Harry, for my opinion, but I've never had any hope or desire for this film to be shitty. I never said it would be bad, just that I didn't like the central plot, the one-liner idea that was put out when the project was announced. "Blair Witch meets Night of the Living Dead."

I do have faith in Romero. I am excited to see the film. I know Romero's track record, so I know the film will be about more than just kids with a video camera and there'll be something deeper to the film. And it's more Romero zombies. How could I not be excited?

Giant Car Eating Robots, George Romero and Cranberry Juice and Vodka... mainly about DIARY OF THE DEAD!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Today's been one of those days. I woke up... did the Tux fitting, Yoko did the did the Wedding Dress fitting. Then we had a business luncheon.... then I got dropped off at the Alamo South so I could worship the greater glory that was Robosaurus. Then - I taped promos for my Reelz Channel. Then I cheered screaming in the rain watching Robosaurus eat and rip cars in two as 30 some odd piece orchestra played the 1812 Overture and a DJ played YOU GOT THE TOUCH and an insane genus talked about how Robosaurus was forged the Mt Edna at the Anvil of Vulcan to bring Destruction to the world of Man! But before that, during my meditation with Robosaurus... my cel phone rang and I was talking to a producer on Romero's LAND OF THE DEAD about this email. Now right now - I'm delirious from 6 beers, 4 32 ounce glasses of Vodka and Cranberry juice.... and a taping with my hopeful co-host of my show... And I'm loopy. But essentially, I think what Romero is saying here about DIARY OF THE DEAD is this... He's found more artistic freedom and sheer joy making DIARY OF THE DEAD than any film he's made since the original. Personally... I'm just thrilled to be sharing a letter from the king of Zombie cinema... Now folks, bow down... we have a message from Him... Mr. George Romero...

A spy has read Romero's DIARY!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now I know I've been a negative nancy on George A. Romero's proposed DEAD flick, DIARY OF THE DEAD. You can read my debate with Harry about it here. I know kinda came off as a bit of a judgmental asshole, but I take my Rome | »
