Memflix and a few others chime in 30 DAYS OF NIGHT!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Earlier today I posted a glowing review of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. That reviewer was in love with the flick and everything was looking up. Then I got these three reviews in quick succession. None of them are positive, but they're not all equally negative. Seems this one is having a scatter-shot effect with audiences. Reactions are all over the place.

First up is our own Memflix!

Nightsong says 30 DAYS OF NIGHT is the finest Vampire movie in a decade!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm psyched to see this flick... there's a screening tonight in Austin, but I'm opting out for the new Sidney Lumet movie. I'll be in line to see it tomorrow, though, you betcha. We've gotten word all over the place on this film, from disappointment to lukewarm feelings to blubbery excitement. This one is of the latter persuasion. Enjoy!

Got a chance to screen 30 Days of Night, and man I think people will be happy with this one.

CONTEST!!! Want a signed Ben Templesmith 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Print?

Hey folks, Harry here... Long before 30 DAYS OF NIGHT made it's way onto the pop culture scene - I had come up with a very similar, albeit comedic, story along the same lines. My story was about a fat vampire that founded a town up in the Artic region where drugs, gambling, prostitution - you name it, it was basically a Frozen Vegas where the night never ends - and he was a big ol fat vampire that was over-eating on those that crapped out.

One spy calls 30 DAYS OF NIGHT "a great survival film!"

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another look at 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, this one a little more positive than the last few I’ve posted. I have a lot of faith in the director, David Slade, and Weta Workshop’s supply of bloody gore, so I’m hoping the below review is more reflective of how I’ll feel about the flick. Enjoy!

A spy thinks 30 DAYS OF NIGHT is 30 days of torture...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. A mild mannered reporter (his choosing of a handle) decided to drop us a line after seeing David Slade's 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. It's not a positive review. Reading through it, I don't get the impression that our spy has any kind of ax to grind and that he/she/it really wanted to enjoy the flick. I hope I radically disagree with our spy because 30 DAY OF NIGHT is my most anticipated Halloween release, but the mention of shutter-speed gimmickery has me a tad worried.

Anyway, enjoy the review, but be warned of spoilers!

Clip from 30 DAYS OF NIGHT!

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm so anxious to see 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. Moriarty has seen it, but he's been busy writing like a bat out of hell, and just hasn't gotten around to putting his review out... or maybe he's under embargo - whatever the case - I know he liked it - but that's about all I can get out of him. The once great EVIL GENIUS has been reduced to showing his baby the IRON MAN trailer a billion times and now that there's a new spot for WALL-E.... we can all see the direction his life is going. Blissful fatherhood. BAH!

I don't know when I'm going to get to see this thing, I'm hoping I see it before release, but if not - I'll gladly pay for this one. I loved the book, but more than that, I loved this director's first film HARD CANDY - and the idea of this being the first great cool horror flick from Raimi's Genre Production Shingle... well - that has me giddy. Love the look of this clip, check it out...

Quint interviews David Slade about vampires, gore and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I’ve only got a few more interviews from Comic-Con left. Pretty crazy how many I did that it’s now 3 weeks after the end of the con and I still have stuff for you guys. Look for my last few to hit by Friday.

Here is my chat with David Slade about 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, his vampire flick. It’s an adaptation of Steve Niles’ incredibly successful series of comics and graphic novels. I have a small connection to this film, a cameo even if I never once set foot on the set. But you’ll find out more below.

We talk a bit about Slade’s first film, HARD CANDY, which we gave a lot of love to here at AICN, but mostly we focus on his thoughts on this upcoming horror flick. I really enjoyed this one and think you will, too.

Another Reader Takes A Bite Of That 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Test Screening!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’m really curious about this one. I liked David Slade’s HARD CANDY, but didn’t love it, and I think he’s got real potential as a filmmaker. This is one of those simple concepts that I’d hate to see someone screw up, especially after all the time and energy that’s gone into getting it onscreen so far. And now we’ve got a second review of last week’s Torrence test screening:

As with your other reviewer, I was also at the Torrance, CA screening of ‘30 Days of Night’ yesterday evening. I’m a big fan of the graphic novel, I went into this with high hopes and boy were they met. Aside with small gripes over issues that should be fixed by the time of release, things like uneven pacing, the movie was almost a perfect adaptation of the source material.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT has been seen... and the only gripe is...

Hey folks, Harry here... this is the horror film of the year that I'm waiting on. I love Niles' comic, but even more - I love the premise. The comic delivers it really well, but cinematically... psychologically... film can deliver on the concept so much more intensely than the comic could convey... though the illustrations in that book gave you the sense of dread one would hope for. As for our scooper's gripe... That the tension is as taut as John Carpenter's THE THING without a release of humor... that's EXACTLY what I hoped David Slade would do. HARD CANDY was claustrophobic, horrific and unrelenting... and that had to do with a teenage girl and a grown man... not 30 Days of bloodsucking vampiric gorging upon an isolated town in the middle a cold nowhere. Here ya go... sounds like Slade is getting it done right!

30 DAYS OF NIGHT teaser hits - and it looks great!

Hey folks, Harry here with the first teaser trailer for 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, most likely in theaters this weekend with HOSTEL: PART 2. The trailer is exactly what I was hoping for from David Slade, the director of the fantastic HARD CANDY. The film feels bleak and scary - and the vampires look disturbing. This is just looking great. IGN has the trailer - check it out and see if you agree... Here ya go:
