Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a look at a movie I saw during today’s SXSW craziness called AMERICAN: THE BILL HICKS STORY.

If you have no idea who Bill Hicks is, I implore you to seek out his work. Go to YouTube and watch every bit of his stand-up you can find. Order or borrow his albums Arizona Bay and Rant in E-Minor.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Boy howdy, do I have some stuff to tell you folks.
I was lucky enough to get an invite to the set of TRON. It was a junket visit, which I usually don’t accept… the idea is what’s the point? If I’m in a group of 15 other online outlets the only thing I can give to you guys is a slight variation of the exact same story at the same time as other sites.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another review from South By Southwest and this one is a doozy.
There came a moment a little more than half-way through A SERBIAN FILM where my jaw was literally hanging open. I had always assumed that was a figure of speech, an exaggeration of the moment of shock and sometimes I’ve feigned it when giving my friends a look during a particularly fucked up moment in a movie (which usually tend to be Japanese), but this time I realized that does happen in real life.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with my thoughts from South By Southwest’s premiere screening of THE PEOPLE VS. GEORGE LUCAS.
To be completely honest, I had no idea what the movie was going to be before taking my seat. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out what a documentary called THE PEOPLE VS. GEORGE LUCAS is about and it is everything you think it is.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a really interesting installment in the “Oh, Shit! I still have Sundance interviews that need posting!” series. This one is a nice interview I did with Catherine Keener, one of the most consistently great actresses working today. I love what she brings to the screen, whether it’s in a small, no-budget indie or big studio film.
And I’m happy to report that Catherine was just as sweet, humble and honest as I pictured her being.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here writing from snowy Austin. Yeah, that’s what I said. Snowy Austin. I’m finding it hard to believe, too. All this snow reminded me of Sundance, so here’s another Sundance interview in my continuing series of “Oh, shit. I still have a lot of Sundance interviews that need posting!” articles.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the first of a series of interviews I conducted at Sundance this year. After Park City I went to the Santa Barbara Film Fest and got a little behind on the Sundance stuff. I’ll have a good 7 or so interviews hitting this week.
I’m about to go off and celebrate my 29th Birthday with a bunch of friends by eating tons of Italian food and watching two movies at the Alamo Drafthouse, but before I left I wanted to share this interview with Mr. Aaron Johnson.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I just recently returned from 18 days of continuous travel (21 days if you count the road trip to New Orleans that led up to within 8 hours of my departure for Sundance) and I landed in Austin with just about an hour to make the AICN screening of THE WOLFMAN.
The travel gods smiled upon me and the flight was smooth, the arrival early and bags among the first off the plane, so I was able to make my way to the Alamo and take in THE WOLFMAN.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with something a little different. When you go to a film festival the focus is almost always on what’s new. You look forward and not back. Typically. At most festivals there’s a retrospective element, like at Sundance they did a screening of Harold & Maude, one of the great American dark comedies, but those are usually not the priority.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a rundown of tonight’s big James Cameron event at the 25th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. He received the Modern Master award from the festival tonight, presented by the Governor himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little look at Irish animated flick THE SECRET OF KELLS.
As most of you know by this point this film was a surprise nomination in the Animated Films category of this year’s Oscars. I’m sure most of you were like me when you heard the nominations… Fantastic Mr. Fox! Up! Coraline! The Secret of Kells! Princess and the Fro… wait, go back one… what the hell is a Secret of Kells?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a review from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. I’m only able to spend the first weekend here at the festival, but I’ll be leaving you in good hands as our very own for reals rocket scientist Copernicus is on the ground from beginning to end.
I’ll be able to bring coverage of James Cameron’s presentation, the writer and director panels as well as a handful of movies.

Hey, guys. Quint here. I guess it’s appropriate that I write up the passing of legendary producer David Brown considering without him I’d be calling myself Hudson or Moonchild or, God forbid, my given name on this site.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I wasn’t in Los Angeles for one full day before diving into a little bit of coolness, namely a tour around Dreamworks Animation studios following a screening of the near finished cut HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, half an hour of SHREK THE FOURTH and some rough footage from their upcoming MEGAMIND.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with one of my favorite chats from this year’s Sundance Film Festival. I have another good half-dozen interviews to post before I’m caught up, but I wanted to make this one a priority.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a twofer of Sundance reviews for ya’. I paired these particular movies together because they are polar opposite looks at romantic relationships, one featuring the darkest of the dark side and the other optimistic and uplifting.
Let’s start dark so we can end on a note that doesn’t make us all want to slit our wrists in the bathtub.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another Sundance review for you. I only have about 10 more movies before I leave Park City, but I’m a little behind on my reviews, so I’ve taken some time out to write up some stuff.
The buzz on Michael Winterbottom’s adaptation of Jim Thompson’s novel THE KILLER INSIDE ME has been mixed, to be kind. Word spread about a woman standing up at the Q&A of the premiere and chastising Winterbottom and the Sundance programmers for this film, which she called disgusting.

Hey, guys. Quint here with some bad news. Legendary character actress Zelda Rubinstein passed away. You’ll know her from her work in movies like TEEN WITCH, ANGUISH, SIXTEEN CANDLES and, most likely, from her tour de force in POLTERGEIST.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with my brief thoughts on LOUIS C.K.’s concert film, subtitled “Hilarious,” which is the first of its type to ever be programmed at Sundance.
And they couldn’t have started with a better comedian.

Going into this movie you have to understand that I’m a pretty massive Louis C.K. fan. In fact, I saw him when toured through Austin last year practicing the material that is covered in this concert film… and this is a concert film, not a documentary.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an interview I was very excited to lock in at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. I’m a massive, massive fan of Oliver Platt’s work. Big time. The problem with almost any movie he’s in is that there’s never enough of him.
He’s in Park City for a movie called PLEASE GIVE, a romantic dramedy set in New York where Platt is married to Catherine Keener and gives into temptation when Amanda Peet starts to flirt.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another Sundance review, this time for a damn good… possibly great… flick called CYRUS directed by the Duplass Brothers (Austin represent!) that stars John C. Reilly as a lonely divorcee that finds love with Marisa Tomei (lucky devil). It’s too perfect, right?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here bright eyed and bushy tailed after 5 hours of sleep (an embarrassment of riches for Sundance) with my thoughts on the stoner comedy HIGH School that premiered at the fest last night.

The highest compliment I can pay this movie is it feels like an ‘80s comedy, populated by an ensemble telling a simple story with a ton of likable characters. And there is a lot of weed. A lot. Of weed.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the first of a few cool interviews from my Sundance adventure! The fest is still going on, I have many movies to see and many more interviews to do, so I’m going to keep the intros short and sweet…
Here’s my chat with Sarah Polley co-star of SPLICE. I conducted this interview before seeing the movie, so there’s a little probing going on in the beginning but we get our feet pretty quickly, I think.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the second and final interview I did with the people who made the snowy thriller FROZEN, which had its official premiere at the Sundance film festival, but I got to see with a wired BNAT crowd last month.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the director of FROZEN, Mr. Adam Green, who is currently in the middle of shooting the follow-up to his love letter to ‘80s slashers HATCHET.
