Patrick Read Johnson's 5/25/77 might finally be coming to a theater near you!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I saw a rough cut of Patrick Read Johnson's 5/25/77 and it's a very sweet, emotional flick that needed a bit of work. It looks like he was just able to secure $200,000 to finish the flick, in preparation for a debut at Toronto. It has now been shortened to 77.

Massawyrm Writes A Love Letter Of His Own To The Love Letter That Is 5-25-77!!

Hola all. Massawyrm here.

It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised. As much as I wanted this movie to be great, there was a nagging fear from the mixed reviews out of Celebration IV tinged with the overall general fear of another fetish movie. I mean, I'm all about loving Star Wars, but come on – making a film all about another movie? What's the point of that?

Well, as it turns out, the point is that this movie is only kind of about Star Wars. The title of this movie isn't just about the release date of a movie. It's about a day of reckoning for Patrick Read Johnson, a very real day in his life after which nothing was ever the same. As has been said, both in the positive and to its detriment, very little of this movie has anything to do directly with Star Wars. It's not a series of Star Wars riffs and references; quite the contrary, it is actually mostly about a world before Star Wars. A world I was both very familiar and completely unfamiliar with.

Quint steps into the DeLorean and travels back to 5-25-77!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I saw a really early version of Patrick Read Johnson’s 5-25-77 last night at the Alamo Drafthouse. It was so early that Johnson had literally edited in two new effects shots from ILM an hour and a half before the screening. He was projecting it digitally at the Alamo Downtown.

5-25-77 is about the months leading up to that date, the release date of STAR WARS, but the movie actually has very little to do with STAR WARS itself. In fact, looking back the release of STAR WARS is the least important thing about that day for Patrick Read Johnson.

Augustus Gloop wants to thank Patrick Read Johnson for 5-25-77!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... There's a great misperception about 5-25-77, a date that is burned into the collective conscious as being the date that STAR WARS birthed out onto the screen like the second coming. But while that might, in fact, be the title of this film, it is about a lot more than just STAR WARS. I'll get into that more in my review. Here's Augustus with his...

Every great performance requires an encore. Just a couple of weeks ago, I said my goodbyes to the 'Original' Alamo Drafthouse with Quentin Tarantino's triple-feature screenings. There are other 'big' events planned as the last reels spin, but I had thought the nights with Quentin would be the best way to see the old girl off. But tonight I found myself in the front row for one last last hurrah, and it really gave me the shivers. This night, it felt like the whole family was there, Harry, Father Geek, Massawyrm and Missuswyrm, and many others who might be misfits in the 'real' world, but who are like a giant extended family in the geekverse. And tonight, we were watching a film that manages to capture and celebrate the part of us that doesn't fit in anywhere else.

In fact it premiered on 5-25-07 at Star Wars Celebration in Los Angeles... and its second stop is right here in Austin, Texas!!!! This is gonna be great.

That other Star Wars-based comedy 5-25-77 to come out 5-25-07?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We've been following Patrick Read Johnson's 5-25-77 almost since the very beginning of the site. Right now it's not as flashy (ie backed up by the Weinsteins) as FANBOYS is, but I'm confident that the two are different enough to co-exist.

The main difference is 5-25-77 takes place... 5-25-77, when Star Wars hit and changed everything, whereas FANBOYS is a late '90s movie about the excitement of seeing a new Star Wars movie. Gary Kurtz, producer of Star Wars and Empire, acts as producer of 5-25-77.

This flick has been in the can for a while now, but a writer at a website called fancinematoday.com got a little scoop from director Johnson regarding the release of the film, in the form of a teaser poster. Johnson also added that more info will surface very soon. There's not a better time to release, in my opinion.
