Hey folks, Harry here... This is a weird post, because it probably is the single most bizarre story. You know - over the years of doing AICN... 12 years now... We've reported on so many things that have fallen apart, been controversial and just the woes of filmmakers, fans and the material that inspired it all.

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.
And, no, I don’t mean I’m going to piledrive fanboy culture Peter North-style a la Faraci. I just mean that I waited out the FANBOYS controversy until Weinstein figured out what he was going to do with it, and now that the dual-video release is being planned, I feel comfortable weighing in critically.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I have to imagine it's a point of pride with the Weinsteins now... I can't believe they'd really struggle so hard for so long with this movie. I had occasion to talk to one of the producers of this movie a little while back. Apparently, the producers are unified behind the regular, cancer version of the movie, Kevin Spacey included. Apparently, the test screening scores for the two versions are only 2 points apart, so it's not a strong point there...

Hey folks, Harry here... I've only seen the original cut of FANBOYS - which I really really enjoyed and I kinda can't imagine the cut I've heard described. That said, Moriarty has seen all three cuts - and prefers the Weinstein cut - but then... he's not a fan of any version of the film. I think the issue here is who is FANBOYS being made for?

Hey folks, Harry here... It's nice to hear I kickass in this film. I should kickass. I'm fucking Harry Knowles. Asskicker. Ahem. - Actually the real reason I'm an Asskicker in this film is its screenwriter, Ernest "Airwolf" Cline - a long term and good friend of mine. The below review reflects the current "cancer-free" cut of the film... Not surprisingly - it seems to have resulted with a heavily faulted middle of the film. Shock. On the otherhand, it sure does seem to have left this "fanboy" happy as hell...

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I was at this screening tonight. And there is indeed a version of FANBOYS in which the word "cancer" is never spoken, and in which Linus is not sick. At all.
I’ll say this: the film played well. The audience was very vocal and very demonstrative. They enjoyed it. I’m fairly sure they did well in terms of numbers based on the way the audience sounded during the film. They were with it.

Hey folks, Harry here... Thanks to the creative team behind the epic tiny adventure of a lifetime... FANBOYS - we have stunning behind the scenes footage of this spectacular spectacular. Included - you will see new Ewok footage, Kristen Bell sidebutt action in a Princess Leia Slave Girl outfit, Seth Rogan with new tattoos getting a hot towel and so so so much more. This is your brain on geek!
Videos removed at the kindly request and sweet kisses of The Weinstein Company - which desperately want to promote FANBOYS in a hushed whisper.

Hey, guys. "Moriarty" here.
Just to clarify something... Judd Apatow is NOT involved with this in any way, shape, or fashion.
Shauna Robertson, his producer, is. It's not a package deal. Shauna's the one helping to re-edit this, and it's not because the Weinsteins forced it. I think there's a real push happening here to find a version of the movie that makes everyone happy.
Also, there was no new writing done for these reshoots. Everything was either done as improv, or old pages from the eight gajillion drafts of this were used. No new writing was done by anyone.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
When I saw Kyle Newman in Hawaii (he was visiting Kristen Bell on the set of FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL), he said there is still more footage to shoot for FANBOYS, but that he did too good a job picking his cast originally, since they’re all busy now, and it’s almost impossible to get them back together to shoot the pick-ups. I’m sure they will, but it’s caused the film to be delayed and delayed and delayed.
This guy saw it at a work-in-progress screening, and had this to say about it:
Hi Harry,

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Looking forward to this one. Great cast. That dude from BALLS OF FURY looks like he’s having a great year, and Seth Rogen in two roles is more than any film deserves.
Here’s an early look at the most recent cut of the film, which underwent some additional photography and editing recently. It sounds like they’re really trying to make sure that the film delivers on its promise, even if that means some more work.
Hi Moriarty,
I caught a newer cut of FANBOYS the other day. A pal of mine works over at "an undisclosed company" in post production. Apparently, they've been cutting and recutting this thing for a while now. This is my take on their newest:

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Busy morning of headlines, but our last one today is a look at FANBOYS, a movie that will be a loving roast of most of our readership. I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far, but I know they’ve been doing more work on it, and I’m curious to see how it’s looking right now. This guy had some big issues with what he saw, but maybe some of them have been addressed now.
Hey there, Harry and the gang. I apologize for not getting this review out as soon as I could, but my inherent laziness and uneasiness, particularly relating to reporting on this here picture-show, stunted every attempt. Nonetheless, it is here with you now. But before I reveal what I had seen at the first official test screening of the film, which was way back in late October, I must preface with a rather laborious thought. When a movie does well its style is emulated for as long as it can be for the trend or the charm will eventually run its course if pounded into our faces long enough. It happened in the late seventies and early eighties with "Star Wars" and all its knock-offs like "Ice Pirates" and every other space adventure movie. And, to be fair, not all were horrific. It's just that it went on the gimmick that "Hey, we're in space! You gotta love us!".

Hey folks, Harry here... It's kinda surreal to see a trailer for Ernest Q Cline's FANBOYS. I've only been following this tiny project for nearly a decade now. Back when EPISODE 1 was merely a phantom menace on the horizon. I'm not the biggest fan of the trailer, as it's playing up the gags and isn't really doing a job of selling what I feel the real story of the film is, which is the heart of this friendship. BUT - that's for the movie to tell ya. The trailer is meant to show you the zany fun that's in store for folks. Here ya go, the good folks at IESB.net got it...

Harry here... Nearly 10,000 stories ago... Back in 1998, I wrote about a screenplay by a fellow I didn't really know named Ernie Cline... The script was called FANBOYS and it was bar none... The best "fan" script I have ever read. For one, it wasn't

Alrighty you dirty little bastards, I've got an update on that FANBOYS movie. You remember, it's the movie that's inspiring you to break into LucasFilm and watch STAR WARS EPISODE ONE before the rest of us. Well, below is the picture of BUCEPHALUS.

Right now, in production could be a great little independent film. I just read the script. It's not quite like Kevin Smith stuff, in a way, it's a whole lot more honest.
FANBOYS
I agreed to do my part sight unseen. Just hearing the concept
