Merrick here...
In an interview with MTV, J.J. Abrams talks about what's happening with the STAR TREK movie sequel. The question of whether Khan would be in it came up:
Khan would be...certainly...a challenge.

This'll be on the forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray of J.J.'s TREK movie.
Here's a deleted scene showing Romulan Nero in Klingon captivity on Rura Penthe (the prison place Kirk & McCoy went to in STAR TREK VI). Nero stating "The wait is over"...seen in the film's promos but not in the actual theatrical release...comes from this sequence. This comes to us via Spike TV.

The third and final Blu-Ray boxset of the original STAR TREK series - featuring restored third season episodes viewable with both original visual effects and/or "remastered" effects - will be available shortly before Christmas. Interestingly, the set will also include an episode which is not from the series' third season...

I am – Hercules!!
So there was this last-minute invitation to attend a Thursday morning press conference in Santa Monica, Calif., where J.J Abrams was plugging the DVD/Blu-ray release of his wonderful new “Star Trek” movie. I was perhaps the last journalist to arrive, sat in the back row, and was close to being the last of the questioners called upon. I enjoyed very much my exchange with Mr. Abrams, so I decided to transcribe it:

The Los Angeles Times has a piece with J.J. Abramas and Boborci about the development of the next STAR TREK movie.

I can't stress how cool the STAR TREK: ORIGINAL SERIES Blu-Ray collections are. You can find my review of Season 1 HERE.
Season 2 of the series will be issued September 22, and there's something kinda nifty about it for hardcore TREK fans like myself.

In a brief exchange with IO9, Roberto Orci implies the next Abramsverse TREK film will either be a cliffhanger thingie, or at the very least contain a significant story element which crosses over two films.
Exact quote HERE.
A little abstract to be sure, but fun to think about nonetheless...

To date, we've heard many hints and suggestions about material and ideas deleted from Abrams' STAR TREK.
Some of the sequences in question were definitely shot. Others? Guess we'll have to wait for the
DVD/Blu-Rays to see what's there.

Hey folks, Harry here... Ok, as you saw in the PREDATORS piece - I had received a couple of notices about JJ Abrams casting Jack Black as Harry Mudd in the next STAR TREK. Even though I KNOW that any casting on the next film will most likely begin after they've actually started to have real meetings and an outline for the next film... I wrote JJ about it anyways. Who knows what he'll say. Here's what he said:
Yes, talking to Jack Black about doing something -- but not Mudd.

A cautionary note: it's very easy to read too much into Greenwood's comment below, so take all of this as fodder for discussion/harebrained theorizing more than an advancement of fact.
This said, in a recent interview with the Examiner, the consistently badass Bruce Greenwood (criminally underutilized as Pike in the new TREK movie) may've opened up a ginormous can o' hydras.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. If you’ve been following closely I’m sure you’ve noticed that I was quite taken with JJ Abrams’ STAR TREK. I’ve been seeing a bit of a backlash in the talkbacks (strangely enough I’ve never run into it in the flesh), but for all its faults I felt that Abrams’ resurrection of the Trek iconography was a stellar success.

Hey folks, Harry here... It seems that Kirk, Sulu & Chekov are aboard the International Space Station hunkered around a laptop watching JJ's STAR TREK in OUTER SPACE!!! Ok - it isn't Kirk, Sulu and Chekov... it isn't even that actors playing them. It's an American, a Japanese and a Russian velcro'd into place in the Unity node of the Space Station - and I'm betting they'll be watching this more than once up there - as they have one of the very few LEGAL copies of STAR TREK!

AICN's featured many reviews of J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK over the last few weeks - so many, so quickly that my adding yet another perspective seemed extremely unnecessary at best.

Ok, folks...the wait is over. The first new cinematic STAR TREK in seven years hits screens later today.
Did J.J & Company smash the Big E right into Mount Selea? Or, did they boldly go? Did the Bad Robot gang bastardize "our father's STAR TREK"? Or, brazenly, brilliantly re-invent it?
