ScriptGirl decides to start chatting with us about the week's Script Sales!

Hey folks, Harry here... ScriptGirl has been courting me on Myspace for quite some time... well - ever since she started up these reports - She would attach flirtatious notes like, "Is it wrong that I adore you," and they almost all have the kisses and hugs of XOXO... While watching this week's ScriptGirl report - I just found myself thinking - this is oddly hot and informative at the same time - and something I'd love to have on AICN - so I asked if she would like to have these on AICN.

LA Area AICN Readers! Rest Up This Weekend, Because Monday Night’s An All-Night Movie Party!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

You guys know who Nicky Katt is?

You do, even if you’re not sure you do. He’s an omnipresent character actor whose deadly sense of timing has been well-utilized by directors like Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY, GRINDHOUSE), Steven Soderbergh (THE LIMEY) and Richard Linklater (DAZED & CONFUSED).

Hey folks, Harry here… Sorry this was a day late, but I pulled a muscle in my back and really didn’t feel right writing. Sucks – I know… but it’s feeling much better now. This week isn’t the most amazing – but next week is the shit - especially if you love vintage films like me. As always the box art and titles are linked to the titles’ Amazon pages where you can learn more about the title – or you can purchase, thus supporting this column. I hope you dig it. Quint takes in the visual spectacle that is SPEED RACER!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here.

Of course I know of SPEED RACER. I knew the song growing up, I knew the iconography. Who didn’t? But I never really followed the cartoon. I’m sure I’ve seen an episode or two, but definitely not recently and when I’d flip by them on TV as a kid I don’t think I stayed to watch.

It just wasn’t my thing. I was never into that kind of animation and wasn’t caught up with cars or racing. Give me mutants, monsters, swords, lightsabers, dogfights, robots and dinosaurs any day over cars.

Capone Says There’s Nothing Average About STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I loved Capone’s interview with Errol Morris, and it makes me jealous. Like Capone, I was first turned on to Morris by the rantings and ravings of Siskel & Ebert, and I went out of my way to collect his work on video when I could. I love VERNON, FLORIDA and GATES OF HEAVEN dearly, and his later era of work is strong and provocative. He’s a giant in his field for good reason.

A Pair Of Early Reviews For THE BROTHERS BLOOM, Rian Johnson’s Follow-Up To BRICK!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Verrrrrrrry curious about this one. The script was a canny little game of chess, and the cast is a knock-out. I liked BRICK quite a bit, and I hope this marks a step forward for this idiosyncratic young writer/director.

I know it screened on Thursday night, and we got in two reactions to the screening. Here’s the first...

Hello Harry, I've sent scoops in in the past but never had anything get through maybe this will be the one.

Moriarty And Hammer And Tongs And Son of Rambow! A Conversation With Garth Jennings And Nick Goldsmith!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

I had a little bit of an e-mail back-and-forth with Garth Jennings back when HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE was still test-screening, and he seemed like a decent sort then. And Edgar Wright swears by these two... says they are the real deal, film fans with their hearts in the right place.

As if SON OF RAMBOW wasn’t proof enough.

Capone Goes Face To Face With Documentary Giant Errol Morris!

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. My admiration for the works of Errol Morris knows no bounds. Watching Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel on their old "Sneak Previews" show on PBS review Morris' first film, GATES OF HEAVEN, was probably the singular moment that made me curious about documentaries. Actually seeing the film, got me hooked on them. Since then, Morris has placed me in a constant state of awe at his works, his skills a visual artist, and his ability to peel away the layers of his subjects to get to the truth of every story they tell.

Danton Burroughs has joined Edgar & John on Barsoom...

Hey folks, Harry here... Got this news last night, and I feel of all the obits I've been tasked with writing this one is the toughest. If you're a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs' work - then you probably are familiar with his grandson Danton. I was blessed to have had numerous conversations with Danton regarding the Paramount gestation of the JOHN CARTER OF MARS movie.

Paramount finally announced initial Blu-Ray DVD slate!

Hey folks, Harry here... The final major studio without an announced Blu-Ray slate has finally announced it. I received the following press release today detailing some fun stuff that us Hi-Def freaks can get excited about. In particular - we'll be getting THERE WILL BE BLOOD and CLOVERFIELD! Sadly - there is no announcement for the INDIANA JONES trilogy. Sniffle. Oh well, here we go...

Harry's DVD Picks & Peeks - 5th week of April DVDs: Alien Bestiality Porn, Foreign Genius Children Films, Golden Compass & more!

Hey folks, Harry here with this week’s DVD PICKS AND PEEKS. Some interesting films here – Especially the 3 Criterion Children’s films – which I can’t recommend enough – and of course the exact opposite – THE BEAST FROM SPACE. But there’s more… As usual you can click on any of the box art or titles and be taken to Amazon where you can choose to purchase or learn more about the title in question. If you do purchase – a small percentage of the price will go to continue this column – which I hope you good folks enjoy. Well, enough from me, here ya go…

Vern’s Got His Review Of WAR INC As Well!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

THE FOLLOWING IS A CORRECTED INTRODUCTION, REPLACING THE INCORRECT INFORMATION ORIGINALLY HERE:

WAR INC may have hit theaters in Canada last week, but it's actually opening in New York and LA on May 23. It played the Tribeca Film Festival a few nights ago as well.

One Reader’s Review From A Festival Screening Of CHOKE!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Every reaction I’ve read to this one is totally different. A lot of times, films build a sort of critical mass, and you can get a good sense of what to expect by the time they’re finished with the festival circuit and they’re in theaters.

But with this one... it’s still anyone’s guess, and here’s one more opinion to add to the stack:

One Reader’s Review Of John Cusack’s WAR INC!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Boy, this one’s sneaking into release, isn’t it? And it’ll be on video before we even finish the summer’s theatrical releases. That’s crazy. This looks like a return to the sensibilities of something like GROSSE POINT BLANK for Cusack... but is it? Does it work?

Here’s one reader’s take, sent from Canada, where the film opened Friday theatrically:

Hey Harry,

Moriarty’s One Thing I Love Today! Joe Dante And The Movie Orgy!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

I have no excuse for days missed. I am currently finishing the final draft of BAT OUT OF HELL on a fairly demanding deadline, and it’s going well, but it’s also taking up 100% of my headspace. I’ve been at screenings and doing interviews and things like that every single day. Hell, this morning, I interviewed Hammer and Tongs at Paramount while yesterday, I stood next to Whitley Streiber and The Rock while shooting a cameo in a Disney film, so it’s not for lack of material that I have been absent from the site this week.

Albert Lanier chimes in with a look at MACHINE GIRL!!!

Hey folks, Harry here - this film is one of the reasons to be at Fantastic Fest later this year - it will blow the roof off the place - listen to Albert's experience!!!

Yoko is gonna lose her poop.... Big Screen Film Titled DRILL TEAM coming in our future!

Hey folks, Harry here... My wife's origin story is tightly wrapped up around her time on her High School Drill Team - The Leander Blue Belles - And when I saw the headline at Variety announcing this project... I almost screamed to wake Yoko up... but instead - at some ungodly early hour in the morning... she'll come running... jump on top of me in bed and begin hitting my chest squealing about this movie.

Hey folks, Harry here – you wouldn’t believe how awesome and eclectic this week’s column is. Lots of vintage jewels this week. Great titles – ancient titles… and so much more. I loved viewing most of these this week. As always – if you click on the box art or titles you’ll goto Amazon – where you can learn more on the title in question – and if you feel like it, you can buy it – thus supporting this column with a small percentage of the revenue helping this endless series. Well – there’s a lot to get to. Let’s get to it, shall we…

What’s Guillermo Del Toro’s Mysterious New Project?!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

Innnnnnteresting.

Earlier today, we got an e-mail from Mike, the guy who runs TheOneRing, and I assume he was all excited because he thought he was about to get some big-ass HOBBIT news to run. He said as much in this e-mail he sent out:

Capone Savors Wong Kar Wai’s MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I like this one, and I don’t care what anyone else says about it. It’s a sweet little movie, a light little thing, and I’m curious to see if Capone liked it anymore than the general film press seems to:

Hey folks. Capone in Chicago here.

Capone Slips A Twenty To ZOMBIE STRIPPERS!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Isn’t casting Jenna Jameson in this film just cruel irony at this point?

At any rate, here’s Capone with his reaction:
