CinemaBlend says Jean-Claude Van Damme (and possibly Dolph Lundgren as well) are poking at the possibility of reprising their role as back-from-the-dead super-soldiers in a new UNIVERSAL SOLDIER film.
In the wake of humongoid projects like STARGATE and INDEPENDENCE DAY, it's easy to forget that the UNIVERSAL SOLDIER franchise was launched by Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin.

His name is Thomas Sangster. I know it takes away my manliness to say this, but LOVE, ACTUALLY is one of my favorite rom-coms. I love that film and everybody (who is a romantic at heart, mind you) that I've shown the film or suggested it to has loved it. And Sangster is part of the reason that film works.

Hey folks, Harry here... First we saw Rocky return, then it was Rambo... now - it looks like the gods are giving us one last Harry Callahan story! Today, it cracked in the trades that there was a new Clint Eastwood movie called GRAN TORINO - nobody seems to know what it is, but we know that Eastwood is going to star. Online - folks like Jeremy Smith were not so quietly hoping it meant... Dirty Harry. Well... here's a note I just received:

I have no idea what to make of this film. I admire Darren Bousman for making SAW films as a way of getting his own pet project financed, and I’m curious as hell. Passion-driven movies like this can either turn out to be brilliant personal little gems or indulgent bags of shit, but they’re almost always worth seeing on some level, even if it’s just to witness the hubris on display.

This is amazing news, and if it’s old news to other people, so be it. I hadn’t heard it yet, and now I’m excited to see what the heck Donnie Yen’s going to do with this amazing story.
Ip Man was famous for teaching Wing Chun, a particular Chinese martial art, and Bruce Lee was his most famous student. His influence in martial arts in general was tremendous, and many of the people he taught went on to teach martial arts to others.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I got a tip-off today from someone close to the George Miller camp alerting me to a bit of news.
A small story ran in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday that didn't seem to get much notice, but had some interesting information. The biggest news being that the name of the movie is now JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL... I'm thinking there might be a colon missing. JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL maybe?

This small little film might be the one I've struggled over more than anything else I've seen so far this year. It's a modest work with bold intentions and some of the finest performances I've seen all year, but it's not the kind of movie that's particularly easy to love.

When this spy wrote in the first time, he sent a very thin piece. Hesitant. I wrote him back, asked him some questions, and asked him to write in with more detail.
I had one big question for him, since Toshi’s mad for this trailer, too. Basically, the entire Apple Quicktime page is like a playground for him when he comes into my office to see me while I’m working. “Daddy, play BATMAN. Play FUCK YOU PANDA. Play INDY JONE. Play WALL·E. Play SPEED RACER.”

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. If you're a Potter-head like I am you've most likely been dying to hear who is going to helm the final movie of the series, adapt the great book. The word hasn't changed from the early rumors. I think they're still breaking that book in two and releasing it as 2 movies. I love that idea as a way to squeeze in every last detail of the book (minus hour 3 of the Harry and Hermione camping trip, of course).
Some might be disappointed with this... I myself have some concerns, but I'll get to that after the rumor:

I’ve been e-mailed about this one for the last few hours, and I have to say... I’m very interested in what this film could be, and I have my fingers crossed that we’ll see the best version of it. Gavin Hood’s a filmmaker I have high hopes for, and I’m certainly on-record about how much I like Jackman in this role so far.

Sources inside Toshiba have begun leaking to the press - that Toshiba is no longer going to be manufacturing HD DVD players - and is abandoning the format altogether. Apparently, this decision is going to cost Toshiba hundreds of millions of dollars -

I have no idea if this rumor is true or not. I will follow up on it as best I can in the days ahead, but I don’t have a lot of sources at EON Productions. It’s a pretty tight ship over there, all things considered.

Both of these tidbits came in tonight from the always-awesome Ryan Rotten over at Shock Till You Drop.
The title of this possible Rob Zombie film actually gets me interested. I may be horrified at the idea of him ever remaking anything again, but I’d be willing to watch a film where one of his typical hillbilly ensemble casts got chomped by a dinosaur. Especially if one of the actors was his wife.

Hey folks, Harry here... According to the highly reliable folks at Action-Figure.Com it seems that in the UK, at least, the first 3 episodes of Lucasfilm's animated CLONE WARS - will get theatrical distribution of the 90 minute film. Will the U.S. get the same treatment? God, I hope so. That'd rule! I could imagine Lucas doing this for Digital Theaters only - plus earning some extra coin. Thanks goes to Tolomey for this awesome Super Bowl day rumor!

Hey Universal, Harry here... Typically we get along. We haven't been pissed at each other in a long while. But that's because you've been making pretty good films. And this year was looking very very good. You've got Clooney's LEATHERHEADS - which I'm dying to see. You've got FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, which is under the radar right now, but that I've heard really good word on. On July 11th, you've got Guillermo Del Toro's HELLBOY 2 which I'm vibrating in anticipation for. Then there's that ABBA musical MAMMA MIA!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. With Heath Ledger's surprising and tragic death (a heart attack they're saying now) came talk of Terry Gilliam's curse. Ledger had shot a good amount of his work on Gilliam's new movie, THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS. There have been rumors that Johnny Depp was going to step in for Ledger, but I thought that didn't make much sense since Depp is committed to so many projects, including PUBLIC ENEMIES with Michael Mann.

A couple of days ago we reported that Paramount is working on a new Jack Ryan movie - one without the involvement of author Tom Clancy, the creator of the literary hero.
