SPECIAL UNIT 2!! Talk Back!!
|
I am – Hercules!!
It airs 8 p.m. on UPN, just before the new “Voyager” with Q’s bratty kid. (Yeah, I saw the “Voyager” with Q’s bratty kid. It was a pretty routine hour of Star Trek learning and sharing, save the disturbing resemblance the little Q bears to his father. There are also passing references to Jim Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard, if anyone’s keeping track. **1/2)
Oh yeah, here’s the word on “Special Unit 2,” which we've not seen:
The Hollywood Reporter Says: The premise of "Men in Black" is adopted (or co-opted) by UPN's "Special Unit 2" with only a few cosmetic changes. Granted, the pilot leaves plenty of room for improvement, but there's a lot to like about this mixture of science fiction, horror and comedy. With its tongue-in-cheek tone, mood-setting production design, explosive special effects and nascent chemistry between the co-stars, this series delivers an hour of fun viewing.
USA Today Says: (*1/2) What would you get if you took Men in Black and removed the stars, the director, the writer, the budget and any trace of style, originality or wit?
Special Unit 2.
The Los Angeles Times Says: Almost too campy to be campy. Almost. Title it likeable nonsense.
TV Guide Says: Debut: Science fiction merges with comedy in this new series about an elite Chicago police squad that combats what its captain calls “the monsters of every child's nightmare.” In the opener, cop Kate Benson (Alexondra Lee) finds herself before a review board after witnessing a strange creature abduct a child. “I won't change my story just because it sounds unbelievable,” she states---and is promptly suspended. But she's quickly recruited into the covert Special Unit 2, where she's paired with cynical detective Nick O'Malley (Michael Landes) to solve the paranormal kidnapping. Aiding the pair in their efforts is a mischievous gnome (Danny Woodburn).
Succulent babies!
