Weta Checks Into THE HOME of Kristoffer Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe!!
|
I've known Kristoffer Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe for close to eight years now. Well, let me amend that: I've known "Kraken" and "Quint" for close to eight years; I didn't meet Aaron and Eric until I attended my first Butt-Numb-a-Thon in 2002. Regardless of how I've identified them, they're great guys with an undeniable passion for creating cinema. I gathered as much when I saw their impressive short film "Blind" back in December of 2003; and while it was little more than a dip of the toe in some very treacherous waters, I was confident that these boys would get their shit together and make a proper feature over the next few years.
It took 'em a little longer than expected, but, goddamn, did they ever spend their time wisely. According to Bloody-Disgusting's Brad Miska, Kristoffer Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe are teaming with Weta Workshop to make a (for now) independent horror film called THE HOME. It's a "visceral horror thriller" about a critically injured firefighter who must contend with all manner of paranormal mayhem when he's left to recuperate in a spooky nursing home.
Let me be completely honest here: up until a few hours ago, I knew zilch about this movie. My first inkling that something was up struck this evening at the New Beverly's screening of INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, when Eric told me to expect an email containing a piece of news he couldn't report himself. I'm now learning that other sites have been sniffing around this story for a week (the very same week I spent at Comic Con with Quint!), so this is definitely not a case of the home team getting a good scoop.
Miska's got the first piece of artwork posted at the above-linked blog entry, so, by all means, go over there and check it out. It's got a vividly nightmarish, almost Bernie Wrightson quality to it. If this is the direction in which Aaron is headed visually with THE HOME, I can completely understand why a design genius like Richard Taylor would want to be involved. It looks like the kind of classic creature features most of us grew up with.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY's Steven Schneider will produce THE HOME, which is currently being shopped to a number of production companies. With Weta pledged to provide the f/x (Aaron's preference is, naturally, for practical), I imagine a deal should be in place shortly. Does this mean we'll suddenly see a lot less of Quint around these parts? I dunno. Let's concentrate on the sweet for now, and deal with the bitter later.
Best of luck, guys!
