Nightsong says 30 DAYS OF NIGHT is the finest Vampire movie in a decade!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm psyched to see this flick... there's a screening tonight in Austin, but I'm opting out for the new Sidney Lumet movie. I'll be in line to see it tomorrow, though, you betcha. We've gotten word all over the place on this film, from disappointment to lukewarm feelings to blubbery excitement. This one is of the latter persuasion. Enjoy!

Got a chance to screen 30 Days of Night, and man I think people will be happy with this one.

Let me start off by saying I never read the graphic novels so unfortunately I can't offer any comparisons. What I can offer is my opinion that this is hands down the finest Vampire movie in probably a decade and just a good horror film to boot. They movie has style and realism and depth.

For anyone who has seen a trailer for this film, you know the angle. Vampires attacking a town that experiences a month long night. Easy, simple, effective.

The movie starts off in caution mode and moves quickly to panic, desperation, and survival modes. The Vampires are unlike your normal run-of-the-mill movie schlock. Yes they drink blood, but they are never sated in their thirst. This is the first movie I've seen that really seems to change the Vampire mythos. They are not elegant gothic creatures who sip blood from goblets. They are ruthless glutonous creatures who relish the hunt and feasting on blood. They wear blood like beards ont heir faces and they don't bother to clean it from their bodies. It is their greatest source of pleasure and they are relentless in their pursuit of it.

Now the survivors, are not as well done as the Vampires, but you deffinately feel their desperation. They are thrust headlong into the feeding frenzy of these Vampires and they struggle to keep up. They hear their friends and neighbors screaming for help as they hide in relative safety. They use their wits to try and keep them alive, but with each choice comes more blood. The end of the movie might not be what everyone is expecting, and I'm not going to ruin it for you, but I enjoyed it. I didn't see it comming, but it was a nice change from the norm.

All-in-all I have to highly recomend this movie. It's a great vampire movie. A great scary movie, and well worth your time. Just be sure not not make the mistake and ask for We Own the Night when you go to the theater. I forsee that movie picking up some accidental buisness from people thinking it's 30 Days. Hope this was helpful.
