Steve Jablonsky's TRANSFORMERS Score Is Now Out On CD!! A Few Quick Thoughts...

Merrick again...

ScoreKeeper is extremely busy with ScoreKeeper stuff, so we thought we'd drop in a mention about a score CD that was relased yesterday.

It's Steve Jablonsky's score for TRANSFORMERS. To be clear, this is NOT the rock compilation album that came out before the movie hit. This is the film's orchestral score.

There's been a promo CD for this score making the rounds for the last few weeks, which lacked several signature movements from the film. The full 20 track CD is much more well rounded; tracks (like the stirring arrival of the Autobots) are often expanded significantly from their on-screen iteration on the new CD.

I mention this release for several reasons:

1) TRANSFORMERS is a subject of perpetual interest here on AICN.

2) The score plays surprisingly well outside of the film, revealing textures, motifs, and nuance which were buried beneath the movie's dense sound design and non-stop Bayhem. To my surprise, this ended up being one of the more enjoyable score CDs I've come across in quite some time.

3) Many folks in the Internet community were asking about the availability of this music when the film was released, but no score CD was to be found when TRANSFORMERS was released this Summer. In fact, at one point, there were indications Jablonsky's work wouldn't be made available at all. A few grassroots petitions popped up online; I've no sense of whether or not these swayed The Powers That Be towards reconsidering the release of the score.

Which brings me to:

The release of a movie's score should not be taken for granted (Christopher Young's SPIDER-MAN 3 score, for example). To help counter this trend...if you remember Jablonsky's work in TRANSFORMERS & enjoyed what you heard...this might be a good item to pick-up. There's more to it than meets...the ear.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

If you can't find the TRANSFORMERS score in stores, you can always get it...
