Just got an e-mail (which I appreciate, by the way) clarifying some points referenced in the Hollywood Reporter article linked below.

In short, you can CLICK HERE for comments from UNFORGETTABLE producer Jason Hall that indicate the film is NOT a literal adaptation of the CONDEMNED video game as indicated by HR. Instead, it's set in the same broad universe and "derived from the source story/universe/bible" as CONDEMNED.

Tarsem Singh (aka "Tarsem"), who brought us a Jennifer Lopez / Vince Vaughn freakout called THE CELL back in 2000, is coming at us with a new project. It's called THE UNFORGETTABLE (not to be confused with the Ray Liotta film UNFORGETTABLE or the Nat King Cole song called "Unforgettable").

This used to be called SPECIES-X, which itself is based on a video game called THE CONDEMNED: CRIMINAL ORIGINS. CONDEMNED was an XBOX 360 launch title if I'm not mistaken (and also a PC game, no?); its atmosphere freaked the crap out of me & I couldn't advance very far into the game.

The story...

...centers on a cop who in the course of a murder investigation realizes that he is not human and uncovers a war between good and evil aliens.

...says THIS STORY IN HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

David Goyer will produce alongside Basil Iwanyk (WE ARE MARSHALL, FIREWALL) and Jason Hall (a co-creator of the game).

I was bored out of my mind by THE CELL. And, while I was in an admittedly foul mood (more so than usual) when I watched it, I'm not sure it made any sense at all. However, I did like some of its imagery and style - and can kinda/sorta see why THE UNFORGETTABLE/SPECIES-X/CONDEMNED...based on a highly atmospheric game...could be a good fit for Tarsem.
