Merrick again...

Variety says that Lawrence Kasdan's THE BIG CHILL is being contemporized (is that a word?) for an African American cast. Because that worked so well in stuff like THE HONEYMOONERS movie, you know.

The movie will likely be retitled, but the original script by Kasdan and Barbara Benedek will be used as a template; the storyline will be contemporized and the cast will be African American.

Retitled? Which makes it, what? A remake that isn't even using the same title, based heavily on the previous script? Talk about lazy.

The story is about a group of friends that come together for the funeral of an old friend and contemplate their lives. Trivia buffs may remember that Kevin Costner played the dead guy (there's a stretch).

Okay, that was mean - and I think he was supposed to be alive in flashbacks or something (but he ended up cut from the film).

The 1983 original starred Tom Berenger, William Hurt, Jeff Goldblum, Mary Kay Place, Glenn Close, JoBeth Williams, Kevin Kline, and Meg Tilly and a lotta other folks.

Who will we get this time around? Will Smith? Chris Tucker? Bernie Mac? Beyonce? Jennifer Hudson?
