Nashville Film Fest! ADRENALINE Reviewed!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I love when someone sends us a report from a regional festival about a local film they’re particularly proud of. Films like this need whatever support they can get if they ever hope to reach a wider audience, so it’s important... if you go to a festival like this and see something you love... WRITE TO US. Please. That’s the point... sharing the news when you find something worth sharing...

Hello Geeks!

In the middle of my own personal BNAT ... 40+ films screened over 8 days. But had to get a review of this little Nashville gem to you guys.

"Adrenaline" is the first of its kind for Music City... a film completely financed, shot, cast, produced, etc in Nashville. And what a debut!

An 88 minute SINGLE SHOT thriller. You heard right. No cutaways, no retakes, no edits. Much ballyhoo was made over the fabulous shots in "Children of Men", and the ballyhoo was much deserved: those were sheer cinematic genius. Well take that times 10 for "Adrenaline". We find our main character in the middle of an ordinary day: he just bought a new car, he's dropping his daughter off for swim practice, meeting his wife for lunch. Things are great, until (there's ALWAYS an until, huh?)... the car dies, he punches up the fancy "SatAssist" GPS/help system, only to find it's been jacked by the kidnapper of his daughter. Forced to meet the kidnapper's demands (buy a disguise, steal a gun, rob a bank) our main man is almost surprised at how easy it is to unleash his dark side when his daughters life is on the line.

There's really nothing spectacularly fresh about the story or script (we all saw "Cellular" and "Phone Booth") But the fact that the makers were ambitious (crazy, stupid?) enough to do it in a continuous take is what is causing the buzz. Really alot of ingenious camera-wrangling as the action shifts from in-car to outside and back in. Q&A afterwards revealed it took a mere 42 takes/restarts before they had their masterpiece. Take THAT Stanley Kubrick!

And hey, all you aspiring autuers, it's a great way to save a few budget bucks... no editor needed!
