SATURDAY MORNING KIDS CLUB presents: PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) with Errol Flynn Today At ALAMO SOUTH!!!

Harry here... Too often I forget to plug my adventures with the Saturday Morning Kids Club, which falls on the last Saturday of each month at the Alamo Drafthouse South on South Lamar. But later today at 11am, I'll be hosting a 70th Anniversary screening of Mark Twain's classic PRINCE AND THE PAUPER.

I don't know if you've ever seen it, but for this kid... I grew up with it. A friend of mine, "Uncle Bob," had a print of it - to go with his I.B. Tech 16mm print of THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD and prints of CAPTAIN BLOOD and THE SEA HAWKS. Thus was born my life spanning love of the greatest cinematic adventurer of all time... ERROL FLYNN. In fact - long before adventure's name was INDIANA JONES, it was ERROL FLYNN.

He was dangerous and dynamic... his eyes had mischief and derring-do. He was a man that relished being a man. An adventurer and scoundrel in life as he was on screen. Not the sort of man to be admired in these estrogen men times, but when you were a pirate that ravished and woo'd, you had Errol Flynn.

The chance to screen this film - 70 years after it first hit the silver screen, to an audience filled with youngsters - getting to experience, not just Flynn, but the joys of classic Black & White cinema by a magician like William Keighley - and getting to see Claude Rains and Alan Hale on screen... or to hear one of the great Erich Wolfgang Korngold score propelling one of the great childhood adventure stories ever... well, it fills me with glee.

If you're unable to attend, but have kids - sit them down and show them this film. It's on DVD:

But if you can get to ALAMO SOUTH on SOUTH LAMAR here in Austin today at 11AM - you'll find a rare treat on the silver screen screening for the youngsters and the young at heart. See you in 11 hours, if you can.
