Warren Ellis Reviews ABC
|
I am – Hercules!!
Supergenius comic-book author Warren Ellis (“Global Frequency,” “Reload,” “Planetary,” “The Authority”) weighed in Friday on a few more network pilots. These shows will actually be turning up on television this autumn. They are:
* THE LYON’S DEN (10 p.m. Sundays. NBC. Opposite “The Dead Zone” and “The Practice.”) Drama about the lawyer-son of a prominent political family who works at a 150-year-old Washington law firm. From writer-producer Remi Aubuchon (“Chicago Hope,” “From the Earth to the Moon,” “24”). With Rob Lowe (“The West Wing”), Matt Craven (“From the Earth to the Moon,” “L.A. Doctors”), Kyle Chandler (“Early Edition,” “What About Joan”), Elizabeth Mitchell (“ER,” “The Beast,” “The Santa Clause 2”), David Krumholtz (“The Santa Clause 2”), James Pickens Jr. (“Traffic”) and Frances Fisher (“Glory Days”). “I couldn't give a fuck if a bunch of bickering smarmy lawyers live, die, or have to suck off old corpses...” opines young Mr. Ellis.
* THREAT MATRIX (8 p.m. Thursdays. ABC. Opposite “Survivor,” “Friends,” “Scrubs,” “Tru Calling” and “WWE Smackdown.”) Actioner centered around a “super-secret” division of the U.S. Homeland Security Agency. From “Haunted” producers Emile Levisetti and Keith Addis. With Jamie Denton (“The Pretender,” “Philly”), Kelly Rutherford (“Melrose Place,” “Scream 3”), Will Lyman (“The Siege”), Kurt Caceres (“All My Children”), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (“Crossing Jordan”), Melora Walters (“Magnolia”), and Anthony Azizi (“Tomcats”). “A deeply dodgy piece of work full of plotlines like My God, The Towelheads Are Using Plastic Surgery To Look Just Like Us Good White Folks,” says Ellis.
* LAS VEGAS (9 p.m. Mondays. NBC. Opposite “Everwood,” “Monday Night Football” and “Everybody Loves Raymond.”) Drama about a private security force employed by one of Las Vegas’ biggest casinos. From writer-producer Gary Scott Thompson (“Split Second,” “The Fast and the Furious”). With Josh Duhamel (“All My Children”), James Caan (“City of Ghosts”), Nikki Cox (“Nikki”), model Molly Sims, James Lesure (“For Your Love”), Nessa Holt and Vanessa Marcil (“Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The Rock”). Says Ellis: “… if you're doing a show about young hipsters trying to rip off Vegas casinos every week, but they have to be stopped by aged James Caan and his trusty men every week, that's not OCEAN'S ELEVEN for TV, no matter how you dress it up. It's fucking MATLOCK.”
