Comic-Con Events To Watch For! Mark Hamill, Arlene Sorkin, Kevin Conroy Signing! BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Preview!

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Well, it looks like no Comic-Con for me this year. First time I’ve missed it in the last four or five years, I think. It’s either Comic-Con or FantAsia in Montreal, though, and I know which one is going to feed my head the right way. So I’m going to have to let Quint (that miserable sneaky New Zealand-goin’ bastard) and Beaks and some of the other guys have all the fun in San Diego.

If you want to know exactly what’s going on, you need to check out the official Comic-Con website, because there’s no way I can list all the goodies here. A few people have sent me specific reminders, though, of things you might be interested in, and as the week gears up, I figure we might steer you towards a few of them.

First up is a signing I highly recommend you go to. I had the chance to have lunch with Mark Hamill recently, and I was surprised at what a giant honking geek he is. It was so easy to just fall into a conversation with him about comics and movies and SF and cartoons and voice actors and a million other topics. His film, COMIC BOOK: THE MOVIE, stars a lot of voice talent that you never see onscreen, like Billy West and Arlene Sorkin, and there’s a great deal of trust and friendship between these performers. That comes from all the time they’ve spent together, I’m sure, and if you want a glimpse of how they are together, it sounds like this is the best chance next weekend:

This next quick release was from Sci-Fi Channel. Now that they’ve got guys like Steven Spielberg and Bryan Singer and Martin Scorsese all developing original programming for them, Sci-Fi is stepping up, and their next major premiere is going to be for the updated BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Here’s what they’re doing:

The SCI FI Channel returns to the SAN DIEGO COMIC CON with the debut of the cast and crew from its highly anticipated upcoming mini-series Battlestar Galactica, July 18th and 19th, 2003.

Battlestar Galactica is the SCI FI Channel's "re-imagination" of the classic and loved original series of the 1970s. The mini-series' executive producer and writer will join the cast on a special panel to discuss the project. Cast members of the channel's Stargate SG-1 will also be on hand to answer fan's questions.

Additionally, viewers are invited to the SCI FI Channel's booth to have their pictures taken with life-size cutouts of characters from the upcoming animated series Tripping the Rift. Fans can then log on to www.scifi.com to download their photos.

Dates & Times (cast and times are subject to change):

Friday, July 18th from Noon-1PM: Battlestar Galactica: Jamie Bamber, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, and writer Ron Moore. Tentative are Edward James Olmos and executive producer David Eick.

Saturday, July 19th from 12:30PM-1:30PM: Stargate SG-1: Amanda Tapping, Don Davis and Martin Wood (writer).

I’m wondering just how “tentative” that Edward James Olmos appearance is after he made his statements warning fans not to watch the show recently. I know what he meant, but that had to make the network wince a bit.

If you’re doing something at the Con that you think merits special mention ahead of time, make sure to drop us a line and let us know this week. Thanks, everybody.

"Moriarty" out.
