Do we NEED another version of Rashomon?
by Hardyboy
Jul 14th, 2001
12:03:41 PM
Like many great films, Rashomon has been so often copied and imitated by other films, TV shows, and cartoons that its once-groundbreaking structure (telling the story through multiple perspectives) now seems familiar and conventional, and would probably look trite if used in yet another movie.
Reese Witherspoon as Honey West?

Yecch. Like that dog-ugly chick could ever be a worthy replacement for Anne Francis. By the way, where's Buzz's weekly parody post?

That's not how I remember it! My favorite updating of Rashomon would have to be the one they did on "Goodtimes" where everyone had a different story as to how the couch caught fire, and in the end it was just because Penny took a drag off of J.J.'s girlfriend's ciggy and then hid it underneath a sofa cushion. It cannot be topped by any manner of human art, so why even try? By the by, did ya'll know that Kevin Smith hates Reese Witherspoon? Good for him! I heard that somewhere, and I kind of believe it.

Uh...ya know...the one with the...ah ......vibrating seats?______That first film with Lil' Kim needs to be called Lil' Stinker and what's with the gerbil? Do we really need to go THERE on this site? Oh, what the heck, why not? We've certainly covered every other topic under the sun lately (religon/censorship/abortion and let us not forget that oldie but goody...racism). And our site was held hostage!!!!!Dear God, where will it all end?____HuneyBee, not to be confused with HoneyWest

Buzz Maverik's Weekly Recap -- Escape From Betty Ford.

TAKEN FROM REAL LIFE -- Yale. Skull N' Bones Club (that nifty building that looks like a giant, grinning skull with two narrow, white washed parking lots resembling bones. Inside, the bad news: "It's Dubya's daughters again." "Good heavens, the twins? Now what have those two little scamps done?" "They've gone and landed themselves in rehab in Palm Springs, near Frank Sinatra Drive." "Shit!" "I think they're rooming with Brad Renfro." "Double shit! What're we going to do for poor Dubya?" "We're getting them out." "Ourselves?" "God, no! We got lucky. Over at New World Order headquarters, they caught one of the Maverik brothers trying to hotwire a black helicopter." "Which one? Cav? Che? Scam?" "Buzz." "Oh, God, not that asshole!" "I was going to wire him with explosives and force him to go in, but he said he'd do it if he were allowed to steal patient files and sell them to the NATIONAL ENQUIRER or just post them on the AICN talkbacks if he was feeling generous." "AICN? They banned me for making fun of Quentin Tarantino." "Now, stiff upper lip, old chap. The point is, he's about to be dropped onto the Betty Ford Center at 2100 hours." "Dropped?" "Apparently he's a big fan of the novel STARSHIP TROOPERS and has developed his own drop capsle." "Drop capsle? I saw that movie. What the fuck is a drop capsle?" "It wasn't in the movie, so I don't know what the fuck he's talking about either, but the point is, he works cheap!" SEE YOU AT THE COMMITTMENT HEARING.
Congratulations To Elston Gunn!

not that anyone's been asking lately, but if they're looking for the best actor currently available who could pull off DR. WHO, it would be Craig Ferguson ("the Drew Carey Show"s Mr. Wick). He was fabulous in "Saving Grace" and has the look, the accent, the kooky demeanor...

you wanted the best, you got five-tone*****'moulin rouge' proved you could get away with a cool musical, and if any old time song-and-dance production ever had a hope in hell of attracting moviegoers, it's 'chicago': sexy and amoral characters, bit of timely satire about celebrity crime, chicks in lingerie slithering around the joint (it does have chicks in lingerie, right?). if CZJ can sing and dance, she might be the go. get nicole kidman in for the second female lead (even though i don't think she's good for much of anything)...actually, why not get charlize theron? hugh jackman's been mentioned as the male lead, and why the hell not? the dude can actually sing and dance, and it'll do him good to play a shyster and show off a little of his versatility. Still, it could use a real film director (what's rob marshall ever done?). you know how'd be good? spike jonze, that's who. his bjork and fatboy slim clips show he knows how to stage big-ass musical numbers*****is it just me or would a sequel to 'shrek' kinda diminish all the good will towards the first one? particularly when you hear about myers, murphy and diaz getting the big bucks - kinda makes it look like a good marketing opportunity and not a chance to tell a good yarn. (oh, five-tone, you got naive while you were away.)*****remember when de niro movies used to hold the promise of great things? 'scared guys' sounds like something rob schneider would put in his 'maybe' pile*****you're probably wondering to yourself why five-tone's back in the weekly recap game after such a long absence. two words: reese witherspoon. three more words. must be stopped. jesus, have you read the interview with her in the latest 'premiere'? she sounds like such a motherhumpin' bee-yatch! cold, calculating, unyielding, et cetera, et cetera...you want all these qualities in a five-star general or contract killer, not an actor! lemme tell ya, i'm starting to think she wasn't acting at all when she played tracy flick in the exceedingly overrated 'election'. yeah, you heard me: 'election' was overrated. it was intelligent and thought-provoking, sure, but it was so damn petty and vindictive and unforgiving...i gotta tell ya, the more i think about it, the more i realise i loathed the fucker from beginning to end. and the more i read about reese witherspoon, the more i dislike her. kevin smith has the right idea: she should be known from now on as 'greasy reese witherspoon'. and her attempt to jump on the 'charlie's angels' bandwagon and fleece the saps outta their cash with a 'honey west' movie (complete with wire-fu and techno soundtrack, i'll bet) makes me kinda ill. OK, rant over*****whassup with pitt taking a break in filming aronofsky's 'last man' to make the coen bros' 'to the white sea'? i'm not complaining (who would be? two cool flicks, man), i'm just curious*****i swear, the kids in the hall must have a lot of fans in hollywood (they're not well-known down under, so could someone explain their appeal?), because how else do you explain bruce mcculloch STILL landing jobs behind the camera? yes, 'superstar' was funny in parts (esp. "supermodel documentary hour") but 'dog park'? what the fuck?*****'darksiders': sounds so crap it could be cool*****'leonardo secret agent': sounds so crap it's probably crap*****it's always a cause for celebration when a new phil kaufman project is announced*****it is never a cause for celebration when a new danny cannon project is announced*****danny rubin, writer of that comedy classic 'groundhog day', is back! woo-hoo!*****where can i see 'nutbag'? my life is incomplete until i see 'nutbag'!*****any major dude will tell you, now five-tone has too.

I hope you have good wuck with the Betty Fowd heist. Othew than that is appeaws that Hollywood is vewy vewy slow this week? Whewe is everywone? On vacation? Getting some west so they can come back and make lots of moovies again? Congwatualtions to Uma on the new wittle baby, and hopefully everywone will be nice about it, not like on the Quentin Tawantino talkback. MR Tawantino will put out a movie someday, eveywone just needs to have patience. Congwatutlations Elston on getting Mawwied! But who's going to do the wecap? Buzz? Apparently, he does hate her. He mentioned that he was a fan of her debut in MAN ON THE MOON, but was not a fan of her personally after she described CLERKS and S.F.W. as being practically the same movie, and snubbed Joey Lauren Adams.

I don't mind her, she did two good movies: Election and Best Laid Plans with Alessandro Nivola. She can act but this Legally Blonde crap etc, she should steer clear of it all.

We need to stop making movies called "Black and White". I was at Blockbuster about a month ago and I heard these two moronic employyes bitch and moan about the fact that there were (at least) 2 movies called "The Patriot" and apparently they both get rented so much that it's a hassle getting the right one in the right place. Please, Robert Carlyle, if there's an ounce of decency in you, make them change the title, so I don't have to start punching people out at BBV. Well, more than I have to.

I got my Buzz Maverik fix and damn it was good. I flew for a while and as I started to come down I looked for another hit to maintain the high, but...no Seattle Sleww. I searched madly for a Hate Mail edition, even mugging a couple of people for information. "WHERE'S SLEWW?" I screamed, spittle flying from my mouth. They didn't tell me anything no matter how hard I kicked them (damn, old people are really fragile!) so I cruised the area, checking tb's. Nothing even resembling SS in sight. I returned to the weekly recap but nothing has changed. I decided to check myself into rehab. itssshhhardtootyyypewithtthese ddtt''sss.

The title is the last of their worries....I had to read the script for my compnay and it's a dramatically retarded, amateurish and thoroughly repellent POS. Sub-Movie of the Week trash masquerading as meaningful true life tale. Honestly, they must have re written it cos it was appalling when I read it.
