You had me worried there for a second. I thought you were going to tell us Faye Dunaway had been cast on the show... Ugh...

I thought Annette O'Toole was headlining "The Huntress" over on USA. Was that one cancelled, or is she supposedly going to pull a Heather Locklear and be on two series at once, on different networks?
Yet another example...

of not knowing what to do with talented older female actors. She should be doing theatrical movies. It's an interesting variation: Sally Field was Tom Hanks co-star in "Punchline" then his mother in "Forrest Gump". BTW, why all the buzz from the media on this show? I've seen many media reports hyping this show as the breakout hit mainly on the grounds of the cast is good looking. Uh, is it any good? Is it entertaining? These are the real merits for judging a show. Just wondering.-----later-----m

1) USA has, sadly, cancelled "The Huntress. ************* 2) I read the "Smallville" pilot (and reviewed it here on Coax) and was really intrigued by its take on Lex Luthor.

My point on the critcs was not directed at you, since you have seen the pilot and gave a detailed review, but toward TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, E!, Fox News, ET, and several others.---later-----m

check out an '80s-era romantic comedy called 'cross my heart' for proof. once you can get past the downright bizarre idea of martin short as a romantic lead, the awe-inspiring vision of a topless o'toole makes it a five-star flick for lonely cats everywhere. now that i've got the larry flynt section of this post outta the way, let me also say that she's a damn fine actress too. this 'smallville' show looks suspiciously like ass to me and if it's gonna use that 'kryptonite' song as its theme, it's gonna SOUND like ass too. good concept, sure, but everything i've heard about make it sound like a right dud.
Was that a reference to 6 feet under?

I am assuming that the title was a reference to the HBO series 6 feet under. If so, was the line in that show referencing something else?

It is a good publicity stunt...provided anybody remembers Annette O'Toole was in Superman III...or the part she played...or anything about her character. I guess it's a publicity stunt for fanboys. (who were probably going to catch the show anyway)

I'll miss THE HUNTRESS, especially the BUSTY little redheaded ball of fire who played O'Toole's daughter! By the way, in the SUPERMAN movies, Lana Lang was never Clark's girlfriend-just a friend. Speaking of SUPERMAN III, everyone tends to tear it apart but, aside from a few stupid scenes involving Richard Pryor & Robert Vaughn, the movie is actually just okay! I loved the dual fight between Supe & Kent in the junkyard! Now, I also rented SUPERMAN IV as well & must say that that film was one ABYSMALLY BAD example of Cinema!

Man this news is conflicting. I'll work through it, only because of Ms. O' Toole. I'm real disappointed that "The Huntress" is gone before I got a chance to see more. That commercial, playing "One Way Or Another" and she comes up in a mini-skirt cocking a shotgun at some unseen perp yelling "Freeze!".......damn she was attractive. Here's to syndication.-------:)

Funniest show's on TV, Raw and Smackdown...the skits featuring those three make SNL, Mad TV, and ANY OTHER comedy on TV look like shit. But that's not hard to do considering SNL and Mad TV and must see TV suck nuts to begin with.
Infatuation with Annette O'Toole

I only just recently flipped past Huntress on TV, and my jaw must have dropped to my navel when I saw the gorgeous O'Toole sporting some grade A cleavage. I hadn't seen her since I watched Stephen King's 'IT 'when it originally aired. Becoming somewhat infatuated, I looked up some info about her on the IMDB. Turns out she was born the same year as my Dad. She's older than my Mom for God's sake! But she's still smokin' hot!

I actually viewed the original pilot and thought it was great. It looks amazing and has a lot of potential. Can't say I'm a "Superman" fan one way or another, so don't know if I'd watch on a regular basis. The role of Clark's mom is a small one, but I don't think the casting of Annette is a publicity stunt. (They're getting enough publicity w/o her.) The role was listed in the casting breakdowns after the pilot was already shot. (BTW, John Schneider aka Bo Duke is the dad.) Annette O'Toole rocks and totally kicked ass on The Huntress. (USA is stupid.) Hope they beef up the mom part for her...

In the space of three weeks, WWF RAW and Smackdown have become the funniest shows on television. More by default than anything else, but the minute Kurt Angle started hanging out with Steve Austin, the comedy began. And Smallville will utterly suck. Buffy is okay. Imitating it (with a much bigger icon, even) will not work. Especially when ratings are low and they start teasing Superboy, or Bruce Wayne guest stars.

Clark giving her the diamond ring was because he felt badly over her having to pawn her original ring which was given to her in her 1st marriage. No romance really occurred between the two in the film & it wasn't followed up upon in IV. So, whether or not the 2 were intimate is up to our imagination although in II Supe's mother told him that in order to be with a woman he had to be just like a mortal human. I suppose that having Supersex would kill a human woman!

Didn't Supes have sex with Lois before he went into the power sucking chamber? And to the people who say they've seen the original pilot, have any idea why they might have gotten rid of the original actress playing Ma Kent?

I have to agree with the other post. You hit 40 in Hollywood and your career is over but your Harrison-fuckin Ford or Sean Connery and your career goes on for ever. Annette O'Toole like Sally Field and another actress like Bonnie Bedelia are doing TV because theres nothing on the Big screen for them. Has anyone heard advanced word on Smallsville. Dean Cain going to play the DAD? I think its opposite Angel or something. Hmmm.

I'm something of a Superman freak and I have to say that this Smallville idea kinda sucks...only in that gimmick of everyone having superpowers. I mean, it's just stupid. Of course I'll watch it anyway. And thank the good sweet lord I'm not the only one who thinks Annette O'Toole is a serious hottie. MILF anyone? I always thought she was hot...and a good actress to boot. the Huntress will be missed.
"Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex", by Larry Niven

...in which Mr. Niven describes every aspect of Superman's sexuality, including how a super-ejaculaton would blow Lois's head off. He also suggests that if Supes ever jacked off, his seed would not be spilled on the ground (to paraphrase the Bible), but instead his supersperm would fly off on their own to find any nearby women--and most likely burrow right through their abdomens to get to the awaiting eggs. And after several months of development inside a human woman, a superfetus's first kick would probably gut dear old mom like a trout. In the end, Niven supposes that Wonder Woman might be the only person who could bring a superbaby to term and not be killed by the experience.
So what if Annette O'Toole was brought in to take over as Martha

This show is still a thinly-disguised stealth plan to implement the Peters/DiBonaventura "dark and costume-less" Superman makeover promised by the upcoming film (and rumro has it that if POTA is a hit, Tim Burton is a lock to direct and co-produce the film--AGAIN). I still won't watch this show.
"Cat People" and "Kleenex" correction
by Randy E.

Definitely agree that Annette O'Toole is a hottie--I bought "Cat People" on DVD (and it's a cheapie, too) just because of her, and her pool scene. And it looks like I was a bit mistaken about the ending of Niven's "Kleenex"--he raised so many issues that I couldn't even begin to cover all of them, including whether it was even possible for Superman to mate with a human woman (we've never seen his tackle before, so how would we know if it would fit!), let alone get a lifeform from another planet pregnant. Anyway, I think I conflated a Superman storyline from a few years back with the ending of "Kleenex" and forgot that Niven eventually suggests that only Superman himself would be capable of carrying a superbaby to term without suffering from all the various hazards ranging from alien RH differences to uncontrolled x-ray vision bursts (most likely at levels lethal to a human mother) coming from the developing fetus. But you should read the story anyway just to see how detailed Niven gets about all the various problems with Superman's sex life...including having to jack off on the Moon.
