I liked him on the other show...

I liked him on the Martin Short Show. I hope that a half hour of him is just as funny. I am sure it will be with equal time spent on sketches and interviews.

I like the fact that Glick is nothing but a raving moron. But there were some very funny moments in this episode. I agree that keeping it focused on the interviews would be better, but I liked the Tom Green parody when he said "Osama Bin Laden's touching my bum." Dumb, but it made me laugh. I'll watch next week to see how it is, should be worth it for the summer at least.

I thought this would suck as bad as his daytime show. Instead the interviews were legitimately humorous. This may be the first funny thing he's done sinse SCTV. The commercials didn't hold up as well, but at least Short joins Andy Dick in proving that it's impossible to parody something as innately retarded as The Tom Green Show.

Its a cable access show syndicated. Short stole his act. He's a real person. Real obnoxious. Even the gays call this guy a fag, that's how obnoxious he is. Terrible show. Also, he imitated a bad Benny Hill with that Chinese skit. "Ooooh, that's racist!" and shows him in drag surrounded by a group of Chinese people. What's funny about that? So what? Benny Hill was funny and he was a class act. His shows were great! He liked everyone and everyone liked him. Short wishes he could have one percent of Benny Hill's talent. If you can't laugh at yourselves and the world, then take the stick out of your ass and beat yourself over the head with it. Turned it off after 5 minutes as well.

I too almost changed the channel after the first five minutes, because that dumbass monologue was just way too Martin Short for me. I was so determined that this show would suck that I was going to see if I could make it through the whole show without laughing. Unfortunately, the interviews were actually funny, damn him. If you can channel out all the other stale and overdone Martin Short crap, the interviews are worth watching.

What's the point of this show! The only laughs were from nervous embarrassment coming from the guests. This cartoonish stupidity might do OK in a 5-minute sketch, but I wanted it to be over after the first 10 minutes. Don't get me wrong, Martin Short is a great comedic talent, but this show is a waste.

My Fiance and I didn't change the channel immediately after South park (which I liked), so we watched the first part of this. I have to say, I was unimpressed. After seeing Michael McKean on "Best In Show", I wondered how he could stoop so ow as to be attached to this. It wasn't funy, it was stupid. Martin Short plays the same character he always soes, just in a fat suit (what a bold character choice!). Halfway through, we changed it to Animal Planet's "Planet's Funniest Animals" show. We laughed more in 2 minutes watching a parrot hang from a perch than we laughed in watching "Glick" for 15 minutes. It's crap.

I literally had tears in my eyes during the Steve Martin bit. It doesn't get much funnier than that my friends. To have Bill Maher's implied homosexuality aired was worth the half hour. I really didn't thik that this would be that funny of a show, but I am hooked, dammit! And I never really knew that Martin Short could inspire such hatred in a talkback. Why all the hate everyone? Does even Martin Short make you jealous and insecure? Funny is funny.

I don't know if I saw the same show as the rest of the talkbackers. This appeals to the 'redneck, laugh-at-anything crowd?' What are talking about? Are you judging the show just because he wears a fat suit? Did you even see the show? I thought it was hilarious how he insulted the guests. The fat suit worked to free up Short and allowed him to be as funny and unsettling as he used to be on SCTV. I loved the commercial parodies. I loved seeing Michael McKean as the bandleader. It all worked. Any show that works this hard to destroy celebrity culture is worth anyone's time. If this show isn't witty and urbane enough for the rest of you, I'd love to know what sophisticated comedy makes you laugh? Meanwhile, us rednecks will be content to enjoy the base humor of Glick and its references to Mao, De Koonig and Adultdiapers.com.
Closest thing to SCTV I've seen in a while

SCTV took a lot of the stupidity and ugliness of local television and twisted it into comedy while leaving the stupidity and ugliness intact. Jiminy Glick is the same way. He is stupid and ugly, but there is real comedy there. The fake commercials also gave it that SCTV vibe. -- I especially liked his exchange with Bill Maher. He wasn't sparing Glick any shots, but Martin Short managed to stay in character and improvise around anything Maher could dish out. And you have to admit that someone who can amuse top comedians like Steve Martin and Bill Maher has to have something going for him.

I can't figure out why Martin Short is famous much less is even allowed into a producer's office to pitch an idea. I have never laughed at anything this man has done but HAVE been annoyed by his presence in several films. He always has that look in his eyes that says "Hey look at me... aren't I funny? I crack me up!" Instead of simply BEING funny, this guy seems to sweat at it. *** Please, Hollywood... STOP HIRING THIS GUY! His schtick is schtuck. Send him back to Canada where perhaps he IS funny.

As odd as it sounds, I'm with Kittyboot, MrMsty and St. Buggering. The Jiminy Glick show is easily the best new thing on Comedy Central. Martin Short is hilarious when doing what he does best, broad charactures and celebrity comic assasinations. Hollywood has diluted him like all great character comics, forcing him into the sensitive guy or whacky sidekick rolls, but Glick is all Short, and personally, I welcome the skitches and fake commercials right out of the old SCTV. Why are y'all so quick to judge after one show - or five minutes, Mr. and Mrs. Parrot-Chuckles? These are some of the funniest people alive working on this, give them a chance to bust out and make a great show. There hasn't even been any good new skitch comedy on TV, period, since those evil cyborgs canceled the Upright Citizens Brigade. (Though, the Andy Dick show can be pretty damn good, too.) Here's hoping this is a on for a good number of years with more cameos from the best of the Second City and UCB schools, and not be cancelled until Glick has interviewd every last celebrity on earth.

I saw the severly unfunny promos. I've seen the reruns of what may have been SNL's WORST season ever back in the mid 80s when Short was in the cast. I saw a few episodes of his aweful NBC sitcom/sketch series a few years back. I even sat through CLIFFORD. There is no doubt about it. Martin SHort is NOT funny....AT ALL!
The Big Picture

Martin Short has been a hit and miss entertainer, heavy on the miss. As someone already posted, he seems to get a much bigger kick out of himself than anyone else. But from time to time he does hit. Think of the smoking exec he did on SNL, or his Jackie Rogers characters on SCTV. Short's best bit though was as a spacey agent in a small Kevin Bacon film called the Big Picture. Worth looking for. I missed Glick last night, but the appearance of Dennis Miller next week makes it a must.

That Martin Short cracks me up. He's really skinny, but in the show he's FAT!!! That's so clever. You can never go to that well too many times. Eddie Murphy, he's good. Martin Lawrence throwing old, cross-dressing, AND fat together... genius. Friends in those flashbacks with Monica. Damn, it's truly a golden age of entertainment. I can't wait until Chevy Chase dons the fat suit.

Idiots who like to act smart

I get a kick out of the idiots on talkback who like to act so smart...I also admire their psychic ability to know a show is total garbage after only 5 minute...and I won't even get into the Parrot thing, but if you're in bed with your girlfriend and you're worried about Martin Short or parrots, something's not right... As for the rednecks who laugh at anything...uh, whatevere...obviously you sit around coffee houses with a black berret and one of those shit smelling french cigarettes complaining why the world should be revolving around Morrissey when it doesn't, maybe you you should turn off the tv and slip quietly onto your couch and ponder if your busboy job at the local dive is worth writing about in your latest screenplay that's surely to star Cloe Sevigny... Meanwhile, back at the ranch ;)))) I'm not really a fan of Martin Short and like many here, I wasn't expecting much...I missed the monologue but caught the interviews and I was cracking up...I'd ssumed the show would be scripted and it appeared to be a bit off the cuff...it was funny watching Steve Martin and Bill Maher crack up...I was in tears when he starts choking on the donut, get's the heimlich from Maher, and goes for candy while getting the heimlich...funny stuff...and I really feel badly for those who didn't get the painting references during the Steve Martin segment...I guess only us rednecks can appreciate fine art and find the humor in the mixups...this show, so far anyways, is a new "probably should see" for me...
a good show that with a little tweaking could be great!!!

I have an odd love hate relationship with Martin Short. He has the potential to be really funny but most of his work misses the mark and just sits flat in the middle. I always feel it's about 50/50. With his recent Rosiesque talk show the great parts were his skits. What i hated was his personality. I find him to be an arrogant butt kissing schmuck. He was a bore to watch. With this new talk show he hides behind this character and i feel he really lets loose. He no longer watches what he says in front of his famous guests. I agree the interview is where the show succeeds. The skits were terrible and seemed to be for filling time. I found myself entertained and amused all the way through. I would like to see Michael Mckean's part increased as the band leader. I want to see a more Max Wineberg/Conan Obrien feel to it. So far I'm hooked on this one. I expect it to only get better but if martin short is martin short he'll fuck it up.

Save me a seat in the "Pro-Glick" boat. The interviews had me laughing myself sick and the rest of the show was as close as you're gonna get to SCTV anywhere these days. The Michael McKean harpist/sidekick bit is pure Second City. Maybe the fat drag helps Short stay in character & puts off the interviewees so that he can throw them a curve with his wacky questions. To anyone offended by the fat suit I say "Loosen the bone, Wilma !" Now the only question is how many episodes will Comedy Central run before picking something else to ride 'South Park's' ass. ("TV Funhouse", Gone... "That's My Bush", rescheduled ) Who are the programming wizards working over there ??

Jon Favreau's hosting a talk show on IFC. It already has a website(and a well designed one, I might add) at www.dinnerforfive.com. The show looks great. Talk shows need some new blood. Hopefully, between these two, we'll have something.

I don't know what's up the butt of some of the people here, but that show was really good. Maybe you people prefer having people talk to a microphone which has a piece of dog sh*t on it to Martin Short's Hollywood interview-isms like "I've not heard that either. How do you think rumors like this get started?" but some people just don't appreciate satire.

I personally hated Short's talk show, but loved the Glick segments. But the REAL fun of the Glick interviews is that he wouldn't let the interviewee in on the fact he was Martin Short. I once saw a stuck-up soap actress walk off the set because she was so disgusted with Glick! But after seeing the first episode, I have to admit that I loved seeing Short totally BURN Bill "I screw hookers and am a complete pig" Maher after Maher insinuates that Glick is gay. Watch this show just for this moment. Especially if you can't stand Maher.
