Any guesses to what exactly is "scary" about that "Visible Secrets" poster? Does it remind HKers of something a la a kid with a trench coat would remind hyper-sensitive wussy ass Coloradans about Columbine?
Counting by attendence makes more sense...

Because then you can actually see how popular a film was compared to another film. As it stands counting by strict box-office, you can't really tell anymore, because of inflation. There are still other factors that skew even counting by attendence instead of money, of course - population increases, the advent of newer media that is more competitive with motion pictures, etc. For instance, Gone With the Wind didn't have TV or computers to compete with. On the other hand, the population was much less at the time than it is today. So even adjusting for inflation, it's hard to compare a movie like Gone With the Wind with a modern film in terms of popularity. Still, counting with attendence takes away some of the guessing work by eliminating the inflation issue.

Every time you grace one of the overseas AICN sites, you seem to raise the overall level of what's going into them. Thanks for the Tsui Hark review, and thanks Darius25 for the additional Indian film info. Instead of just giving us a list of names and dates, there was some substance here. In addition, while the Hark review deferred from plot summary, it was insightful, coherent, and concise. On a final note, and I hate to be harping here, but is AICN ever going to do anything about Iranian cinema? From the looks of Cannes this year, you'd have trouble swinging a dead cat without running smack dab into one of their films.

I guess John Calley, Amy Pascal and their exec crew's been smoking mad ass ganja over at Columbia/TriStar. Swiri getting picked up for stateside distribution is an embarassment really. That movie has got to be one of the worst asian action flicks I've seen since Rock and roll cop and Beechunmu. Peppermint Candy and JSA however are the korean films that should be given stateside distribution. The only real reason why Swiri was so successful was because it was about the beef between north and south korea. A subject matter that's very fragile.

Time And Tide was a pretty good film. The story isn't all that confusing, the action scenes aren't the best but they work and the overall look and feel of the film are very good. Most people don't know who Xiong Xin Xin is as he is better known by his Cantonese name of Hung Yan Yan. You'll know him if you see him as he is bald, and he moves like noone else. He appeared in Double Tem as the bald headed assassin in the hotel..... Shiri isn't the best film ever and I agree there are many more deserving of Western releases, but the fact that it was the most popular film ever released in Korea is one hell of a selling point, and the film is quite good. Is it POSSIBLE that I'll see SHAOLIN SOCCER on the big screen..here? Or will it just get a lousy video release? My advice to the columbia people (which probably won't be taken) is, release it subbed- dubbing Chow into English would be a sacrilege.

The new film, "Friends", is destroying Swiri and JSA as we speak... Whatever. All three films absolutely suck.
