or maybe in CHILL FACTOR he should have yelled out "SHOW ME SKEE

And after all the royal treatment Blacks get from Hollywood (dripping with sarcasm) go figure. Now perhaps Cuba or as we like to call him in the Black community Coon-ba will stop with the bufoonery antics at every televised awards show since he sees where it has gotten him. Nowhere. And they'll probably edit that which we've seen even shorter. All that jumping aroung hooping and hollaring and for what? A nobody starving actor could have done that. Ving are you watching? If you are ever blessed with the opportunity to receive another golden globe award (yeah that'll happen) don't give it away to another over the hill white actor. Hell, white people didn't even give him theirs! And Mr. Jiggy aka Bagger Vance, you aren't even worth the energy.

No I don't want to see Cuz I don't like him, I don't want to see movie by Buckheimer cuz he started sucking after CON-AIR, and I don't like it when Americans are shown heroes where they weren't. Why because American intelligence knew Japanese were going to attack and did not warn ant body so, that the American boys would get killed and the American public would get angry and swallow the Government Bullshits about the war. Sure America (The Government) has done lots of nice things to contribute to civilisation and world peace , nice things like Dropping the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and the Vietnam war.

That is so racist! Michael Bay has to find a way to throw a minority into the most 'fitting role' he could find in order to please the African-American demographic. I hope this film flops and this, too, backfires. I'll bet Spike Lee makes a remark about it the next time he's interviewed. I hope so.

The role Cuba Gooding Jr. plays in Pearl Harbor is that of Doris "Dorie" Miller, a real sailor who served on board the battleship West Virginia during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Dorie was a cook and was, in fact, a competitive boxer. If memory serves, he actually won the ship's top boxing honors in a match with another sailor the day defore the Dec. 7 raid. So at least that part of the character is documented histocal fact. Dorie won the Navy Cross for his actions during the attack, the first black sailor so honored. In the initial stages of the attack he helped move wounded sailors out of harm's way. Despite never having so much as even touched one the ship's big guns before, he later manned an antiaircraft gun and managed to down at least one Japanese fighter. Dorie then continued firing on the attackers until he ran out of ammo. He is recognized as one of the outstanding heroes of the battle of Pearl Harbor. He later won many other honors and was killed in battle in the Pacific a few years later. Check out this website (http://www.history.navy.mil/f aqs/faq57-4.htm) for some more info. In brief, he's more man than you I will ever be. So point that fucking mouth somewhere else, okay?

Let me clarify... For one, I did not know the history of the character Cuba's playing, nor do I care to. I did not insult the character but rather the placement in cinema. You're reading into my remarks all wrong! It's still a cliche'd part placed there to appeal to "minorities." I only assume this from seeing the trailer. That's the only publicity material I've been exposed to. So lay off, man!

Oh, come on! Michael Bay didn't hire Cuba because he's a good actor. He hired him because he's a good BLACK actor. Get a head on shoulders and actually read what I'm saying. I see this issue is extremely taboo, and rightly so! Does the average male intelligence quotient drop 30 points everytime he's threatened? Anyhow, this whole film "Pearl Harbor" looks like another piece of schlock made to appeal to the masses with its overscoring and systematic advertising techniques to grab any demographic. I'm just addressing something I feel is inappropriate and placed there so no group or race is left out so it can sell millions of tickets! It's the advertising that bothers me, not the storyline. I don't know anything about the narrative or focus of this film, nor will I until I see it. The whole story behind the actual Pearl Harbor is so huge, that two hours wouldn't seem appropriate to accomodate it. That's just what I think. I, also, think this film will exaggerate so many elements just to appeal to all demographics (maybe just all the American ones), so it can sell tickets and therefore compromise actual fact! But that's just how I feel.

Wait lets see,GONZO you say that this is only your opinion so people should lay off, yet it is a uninformed and poorly thought out opinion but you expect people to hear you out! Please! As soon as you opened you ingnorant mouth and started stating opinions based on a small snippet of film and not even knowing jack shit about the actual event you lost any chance of sounding insightful and having an opinion that ment a fucking thing! Yet also, your defense is that you really don't care if Cuba's character is based on a real person, and you still stand by your initial dumbass statement. Well back in the forties after the attack Dorris(cuba's character) was hailed as a hero and awared the navy cross for his actions at Pearl Harbor, I don't think they did that to get millions of blacks to join the armed forces, in fact they didn't want them for the War, So tell me ass face, how does the movie by covering a well publicized and "TRUE" fact turn into pandering? In fact if this wasn't included they would be remissed for not including this small but interesting occurance! But i forgot you wan't people to listen to you but you don't want to be held accountable for what you say if it is proven wrong, but you want to slam BAY(whom i am no big fan of)for things that you know nothing about, and for your information the movie is not two hours long it is actually close to three hours long, but i guess you wouldn't know that because your to busy bitching about things instead of reading up on them and knowing what the fuck you are talking about!

I guess you will just wait for the more informed members of society to see the movie and start talking about what was good and what was bullshit, then you will chime in a say " that's exactly what i've been saying all along",right!

"Hairy's Fat (...)"... I'm going to respond now. People SHOULD lay off; it's Talkback. You failed to explain how my opinion is poorly thought out, therefore deeming me idiotic and ignorant. I didn't open my mouth. Small snippets of film (i.e. the trailer) are all I have to base my opinions on the FILM, which I have done. I ONLY BASE MY OPINIONS ON THE PUBLICITY MATERIAL OF THIS FILM, NOT THE ACTUAL OCCURRENCE. My knowledge of the actual Pearl Harbor have nothing to do with my opinion. I hope that's clear; if not, I pity you. I don't care about Cuba's character because I only know him as the musically cued African-American manning a large gun in the trailer. I guess you went as far as to research the role, which is good. I am disgusted by the sheer volume of this FILM and do not care to learn more or gain any more insight into the FILM, itself. I disregarded the text of this article-perhaps this is where you learned of Cuba's character. That's my only fault. But since we're on the issue: (Because you have a great deal more insight into the FILM than I do-I fancy this is how you learned of Cuba's character; where as I didn't even know of his name!) These "millions" of black people you speak of, will these millions be featured as prominently as the white people in this FILM? We already have the many white leads to fit the white demographic for this FILM. I only learned of the few white leads from the trailer. But I only see ONE black protagonist, being the now beknownst to me, Dorrie! Dorrie, the only black guy chosen out of these "millions" of black fighters, is of course athletic, a very large stereotype. -NOW HOLD YOUR THOUGHTS UNTIL I FINISH-So by this precedent, all the African-American fighters in the actual Pearl Harbor (those "millions" you speak of), are athletic? (Oh, by the way, I have nothing against a strong African-American lead!) -I made my dilemma clear, I hope; seeing how ignorant I am, I would not KNOW any better, huh? And this Black lead character, this "Dorrie," (A prominently well known African-American hero in Pearl Harbor-whom you assume I know nothing of because I did not bother to read anything related to Cuba's character, but rather let the film-the publicity (i.e. the trailer)-speak for itself. After all, this is a FILM we're talking about, or at least I was. But, anyhow...Out of the "millions" of African-American soldiers, only one, this Dorrie, was decorated. The only one to do a real heroic deed? (in hopes of ceasing more hate mail, of course not!) But our white leads-from what I've seen of the trailer of the FILM, of course- are all heroic? Well, because there are more white heroes-who must account for all the bravery and wonderfull accomplishments; whereas there's only ONE black man featured as a prominent part in the Pearl Harbor FILM trailer whom you've established as being the only African-American to account for the "MILLIONS" of black people-it's safe to assume there are five times as many whites who fought in this war! Bringing the final count of white officers to over 5 MILLION! I never spoke of actual facts, either. I'm too ignorant. And, I'm pretty sure there weren't MILLIONS of people fighting in Pearl Harbor, like you say; but then again, I'm ignorant, so I must have been lead astray! Also, examine the title (The title being another form of advertisement!): PEARL HARBOR! So Pearl Harbor-the actual event, with all its "millions" of fighters-is about a couple of spiffy looking young white kids and a woman!? Jesus Christ! If that's true, I truly am ignorant! And who is "WE?" I hate groups! You're already including yourself into a group because there's strength with numbers, whereas I'm the ignorant Joe-all by myself! God Bless America!

They've all starred Steven Seagal. Really, he's been a complete Tom Laughlin ripoff: a spiritual man who preaches about the rights of minorities and poor people, and then, of course, kicks major ass to prove his point. ***Oh, and about it being "racist" to make the Cuba Gooding, Jr., character in Pearl Harbor a boxer. . .This was 1941, people--about the only way an African American could be anyone in the armed forces was by being an athlete. Check out any biography of Joe Louis for proof.

But it was a fun argument. Yes, I know there were few African-Americans whom had to fight, not by choice, in Pearl Harbor. I knew Cuba's character was Dorrie. And his screentime is a valid amount considering it's so small, yet very large to validate his heroism! Anyhow, enough of this! I just wanted to see if anybody'd get up-in-arms over a Michael Bay film and/or a war film dealing with such a large issue! Cease the hate! Of course, you were right all along!

You've got to admit that the trailer shot of Cuba vibrating up against the big gun is the most out of place...not because he's a black character, but because it just looks...really weird. Feels like it was a clip ripped out of an old Ah-nuld movie. "Oh Ja, vell lett me take zis giant gun und shoot you in da HEAD!!!" It always gets laughs when I see it in theatres. Couldnt they have picked something a little more diginified to introduce his presence in the film? I hope they show what life was really like for Dorrie and don't make him an automatically accepted hero. Speaking as a caucasion with caucasion relatives, teachers and neighbors, I can sadly admit that It took time for whites to admit that black folks made a contribution to history in the capacity that they did. To ignore the racism that this character had to put up with would be the most racist move of all.

But I agree that it's probably just going to be more flag-waving. I always thought we as a nation had outgrown this sort of propaganda. But apparently not. History's triumphs are going to be reduced to the pretty, dramatic people in pretty, dramatic shots, all with pretty, dramatic music. If this movie hits nearly as big as the embarrasing "Patriot," I may move to Australia.
