I have not seen one trailer in the theaters yet. Just putting a trailer up on the internet will not do it. A wider range of people need to this spectacular animation for this film to do well.

um, like its not even up even if I did spam it. Is that FF Girl on Maxim real? Are "gamers" gonna use it for spank material? I looked at it and cant tell...really. For some reason it has reminded me of this early 1980's Albert Finney movie called "Looker". You know, I must tell you that I prefer the x-rated Lara Croft videos to the games. Currently there is a hardcore version of Lara Croft on various "Adult Bouncer" websites. Of course there is the "Petra Croft" featuring the all natural, top heavy playmate Petra Verkaik. Yes, I just wanted to let you know I prefer porn mpegs over video games. Games are a waste of time and are for losers. I just dont want you guys to think I'm all fucked up and shit.

Toy Story and Bug's life characters had no emotion either. They were just plasticky looking crap *sarcasm off*. Get real! You can't say a whole medium sucks cause you've seen a few lousy shows. Have you seen any of the cel animated crap on tv these days? There are about 2 dozen cel animated shows that have blank, lifeless characters in them.

Most characters in photorealistic CGI, not the Toy Story movies or A Bug's Life et al, do in fact look as though they are all doped out on thorazine. I guess after the 100 gajillion Gigabyte backgrounds, texture mapping, filters and light/shadow etc the animators must get as bored as the characters eventually end up looking. It's a shame because it really takes you out of the story. The old Warner Bros. Chuck Jones and co. cartoons had WAY more emotive expressions than any of the Final Fantasy characters do. You could always tell what was going through Wile E Coyote's shrewed mind whereas the F.F. characters all seem somewhat lobotomised. There seems to be no point in releasing a megabudget CGI fest theatrically if it is filled with direct-to-video digital actors. As far as digital porn goes; Bring It On!!! Digital babes will be completely uninhibited and will object to nothing. Who cares that they have the emotional range of a lima bean? No-one'll be looking at their faces when they've got their ones and zeros off and they're rebooting the hell out of each other. Makes my software hard just thinking about it. Harry Lime. Using the internet as it was originally intended to be used - for the further research of pornography and pipebombs.

They remind me of that dancing baby from Ally Mc Beal, remember the one that had its fifteen minutes a few years back. Anyway, the baby looked like a lifeless corpse and so do these pictures. They might be convincing on the big screen in motion, but for now I will be having nightmares tonight.

OK, first off....damn...they're getting too freakin' good at CGI. At least Squaresoft is, anyways. Most companies still have the aforementioned blank lifeless "Eww, they screwed it up" faces. But anybody who's played a recent Final Fantasy game, or Sega's Shenmue or Dead or Alive 2 knows....they're getting good. And this little bit of fanboy jollie material is just more proof. Not that I'll be the one with this pic and a bottle of Jergens later tonight...i do have a little thing called a girlfriend to take care of that need...but thats straying from the subject at hand....heres my issue....CGI animation, and how it's NOT the tool of the devil. One of the TBers above me is right in saying that crap like Max Steel is a waste of time and energy.....BUT, then he brought up A Bug's Life and Toy Story as examples of bad CGI....umm, quick reminder...those werent supposed to look real....Toy Story is designed to have a cartoony imaginary look to it., because thats the kind of world the toys live in. Same deal for Bug's Life...personally, though, i thought the backgrounds were done VERY well. The bugs themselves were given the unique style so they could still be cartoons....who in the hell would accept the whole story of Bug's Life if they looked like REAL insects?? As for TV, though, they still have ZERO clue how to pull CGI off effectively....Transformers Beast Wars had its moments(and it's still better than that bullshit they tried to feed us called Generation 2), but other than that, they've failed at every turn...but, its not just the animation...does anyone here know WHY CGI cartoons become shit after the first ep? STORY.Despite what the damn thing looks like, if the story is good, people will watch. Why do you think the Men In Black cartoon has stayed on as long as it has?? The animation BITES on that show, but the episodes themselves are cool(aside from Jay being obviously voiced by a white guy). Same for the movie ANTZ. Pretty shoddy CGI, great story. So, dont be too quick to judge on animation. If it gets the job done, it gets the job done. Of course if the job is done WELL, it sure doesnt hurt. Which is definitely my hope for the Final Fantasy movie. I just beat part 9 of the game yesterday, and thinking about if the game could be done on the same grand scale if the graphics sucked, im thinking, with enough effort, it might be. Of course, those summon spells would be sorely missed(especially the "Bahamut destroying the city" cut scene....::drool::). We all know the animation in this movie is exellent...let's see if the story is worthy of the series it is being painted in. Revolution is my name...

The thing ya'll have to realize is that Maxim magazine is just not serious, not at all, about anything it prints! It's a joke for those people who get it. It's about men making fun of themselves, and at the same time, providing a look or three at really beautiful women. Point out a woman's magazine that mocks women... I dares ya...

No doubt about it - no other film has come as close as JP in terms of realistic CGI. As for the pic, it looks quite realistic. She does look a bit like Linda Fiorentino as someone said, and in all honesty I'd much rather be looking at Linda than a drawing. Hey, will she be in MIB2?

The animation was not bad, but it is definitely not a step forward. The real advances from this film are in the modelling, texturing, and lighting...simply incredible. Those stills look great, but the movement (animation) left something to be desired. Unfortunately, the physics are too "real" and right now we can't capture the nuances and randomness that everyday motion has. AND WTF?!?!?!?!? Beyonce's last name is Knowles??? That's sad, she's too fine to have a last name like...like...KNOWLES DAMMIT!!!!!!! Sad. I think I'll change my user id to Jerkwad Loser.

You know I have thought about this before when people get into hentai pictures and it makes even more sense with the new levels of realism provided by CG. Getting aroused by a drawing or CG rendering, is not really any different from getting aroused by a Playboy centerfold or an actress in a movie. That person is really no more real than a rendering, 99.99999% of us are never going to meet that person in real life, its just a "fake" two-dimensional representation being found sexy. Hell, in the case of Playboy pictures they may actually be about as "real" as those CG pics after all the airbrushing. Just my two cents.
I think some people are missing the point....

For God's sake, people, take another look at the image, and then consider the fact that it's not a real person... And then consider the fact that it's not some airbrushed 2d print, either. These are 3 dimensional objects sculpted into one of the most difficult mediums there is: computer code. Some of you just don't seem to understand how much time it takes to CREATE an entirely polygonal object using computer imagery...even with laser surface scans, hundreds and hundreds of hours must be spent tuning the model, assigning EVERY vertex to an animation skeleton, then you have to animate the model... The closest likeness to the process would be a sculptor trying to guide YOU through the process of sculpting a replica of 'The Statue of David' as he stands behind a glass window. It's easy for the layman to criticize the 'liveness' of the characters, or their 'lackluster' emotions, because they've not one single clue what a truly amazing creation it is they are witnessing. My hat's off to Squaresoft for sure. CGI has come a LONG way...

I'm not discrediting the animators here, but a lot of the performance data for the models was obtained using motion capture. This technology is still in its infancy and still requires an animator's "touch" for more realism. No doubt CGI has come a loooooong way, but there are areas that have a loooong way to go also (physio-dynamics being one of them...I'm willing to bet there will be many awkward shots in the film). The fact that the layman does not how much code went into the process is irrelevant because we're not juding the developers of the technology, we're judging the art (although the development of the tools to create this art is an art itself...but I digress). Animators are not sitting at their systems trying to come up with rigid-body simulation algorithms...they're animating. That's what we're judging here...And if the plot sucks, none of this will matter anyway. I can't wait to see this film, because I do believe it's a breakthrough in CERTAIN AREAS of CGI. The animation I've seen so far, IMHO, is adequate. Some of the shots in "The Mummy Returns" and "Planet of the Apes" look better. AJerkwadLoser...you rock.

Quote "There will be CGI TV reunions, with the missing cast members rendered instead of being present." Fans of The Sopranos know this has already happened. As an amateur CGI artist myself, I agree with the last post. The stuff I have seen so far for FF is ahead of anything I have seen before. Consider the hair problem. In the past year or so, hair in still CGI images has improved dramatically to the point where it looks real unless you know what to look for. But, for CGI animation, hair is freakin difficult. You pretty much have to animate every hair folicle seperately. The scene in the FF trailer where the woman is falling and her hair blows every which way in the wind is from a CGI standpoint as impressive as hell. As previous posters have pointed out, the key to realistic CGI is creating realistic flaws. The body language in FF will look perfect, thanks to motion capture. What remains to be seen is whether the faces will seem real beyond photorealistic skin textures. I will go to the Final Fantasy movie to see at least state of the art graphics, hopefully the story wont suck.

FINAL FANTASY will be amazing. How do I know this? I just got back from the Los Angeles Comic Book & Sci-Fi Convention where Sony Pictures screened twenty minutes of exclusive footage from the movie. I'll tell you right now, I had my doubts about this film! I hated the game (which I found very boring and complicated) and I was only feeling some lukewarm hype from the trailer. Believe me... it only took twenty minutes of this movie to send me into a geek frenzy. It reminded me of the first time I caught a glimpse of that sweet 'Matrix' trailer. You know,... the one that left you drooling for more! Well, that's what this film was able to do in twenty minutes. The action scenes reminded me of ALIENS with a little bit of THE FIFTH ELEMENT's philosophy mixed in. I'm telling you now... July 11th can not come fast enough!
