Yes can I finaly join the ranks of the sad with an "I'm first" Anyway just thought I'd add that this legal stuff sucks! The 1st film was cool and a sequel of that standard would be good, but let us not forget the second film was pants!

It took Titanic to bring Spider-Man out of it's legal hassles. What's it going to take to bring Conan back to theaters- a huge Schwarzenegger hit? Not likely.

Arnold is NOT THE SAME as he was back then, in physical build and or frame of mine. This movie would of ended up messed up because Arnold is OLD now and because of his huge ego, he would be less likely to just let the director direct him and not try to think of things himself. I would have to watch my CONAN THE BARBARIAN Special Edition DVD for a straight month to make me feel better. "Ahnd if you bahlieve thaht, you'll bahlieve thaht Richahrd Simmons hahs little juniors running ahround" - Arnold S. on the commentary track after trying to imitate John Boorman, director

In my mind's eye, I can picture an ultimate kick-ass third Conan movie, but what are the odds of it coming to pass almost 20 years after the original? I can't help but consider how poorly that kind of delay played out for George Lucas. For the record, though, the original's already been tarnished with a little sequel called "Conan the Destroyer". I don't think it's as godawful as some, though. It's not the epic the first one was by any means, but still a fun, throwaway Conan adventure. Favorite scenes include: the opening Conan-versus-ten-guys fight scene, Mako's all-grunting face-off with the rival wizard, and of course, the scene where Arnie and a rival swordsman exchange cool sword poses in mid-battle. Fun movie with a decent Poledouris score.
Say... wasn't RED SONJA an unofficial 3rd part to CONAN?

Yes, Iamlegolas is correct. Thats pretty much the history of H-town. The Matrix was a bonanza and now everyone wants to do "Matrix-style" fight scenes. X-Men showed the return of the comic book on screen. And now Conan may look hazy - but the first wasn't all that bad. Hell, it was just on cable and I watched it all after not seeing it in years! And its pretty decent. The Conan story definitely got legs and could do very well if handled by the right creative forces.
It'll happen.

If there is a demand these legal issues always sort themselves out over the course of time, Bond was in the same position for a while, likewise Spiderman and others. Even the legal hell surrounding the non-U.S. rights to the L.O.T.R cartoon are supposed to be sorted and its gonna be rereleased. The only real problem is if it takes 4-5 years, then 1-2 years in pre-production, the Oak will be 60 when filming comes around. Conan the pensioner I can't see.

In the same way that the awfulness of "Phantom Menace" gave me renewed appreciation for "Return of the Jedi", even friggin' Ewoks, so too does "Red Sonja" remind us that "Conan the Destroyer" ain't all THAT bad. I remember a scene where Arnie is practicing sword-fighting with Brigitte Nielson, and he has to fight painfully slowly, to make it clear to the audience that they're on...*shudder*...equal terms. Horribly emasculating for the mighty swordsman, sorta like David Carradine's Tai-Chi-speed martial arts on "Kung-Fu: The Legend Continues".

Just pick up where the first one left off, pretend that CONAN THE DESTROYER doesn't exist and do the second movie over again--this time with Russell Crowe in the lead role and an ENTIRELY NEW SCRIPT. Go for epic scale with a score to match. Same with RED SONJA--give Rene

The first film deserved to be the only film. Destroyer sucked, Red Sonya sucked, and any new film will suck. If Stan Lee wants to do a favor to Conan fans he should get Marvel to publish a second volume of The Essential Conan. Barry Windsor-Smith, man, he do Conan right!

Just read tonight in Cinescape magazine that wrestling's "The Rock" will be playing Conan in the newest movie. Say it ain't so! I pray this is a rumor as I had heard that the new film would focus on Conan the King hinting that an older Arnold would be playing Conan yet again...Anyone else hear anything about this?

I doubt it. We have him to thank for the idiot webshooter debacle. JC has too big an ego to allow a legendary character to just be and let him take center stage. He has to put his dirty fingerprints all over it...sort of like Tim Burton. As for Raimi--what a dumbass. When will these hollywood hacks learn that the public would go see Spider-man even if it was directed by a janitor...hmm, judging from the quality of genre flicks lately, maybe they already are. :D

We were promised at the beginning of the last two adventures that Conan's tale of becoming king would be told. It seems that rather than a new telling of the doubtfully-to-be-improved-on Conan the Barbarian, producers should make good on this promise of old, and give us a nice bookend to this saga. Conan was much older when we see him seated on his throne and Arnold's age is perfect for a believable tale of the barbarian's later years.

Sorry to bust all your balls but there has never been a real Conan movie made. That mindless pit gladiator who was let go, let go I ad again for emphasis, by his master, so he could foolishly stumble his way through a bunch of cheesy missions against a fat old bad guy who headed an ancient flower-child cult, was no Conan movie. Read the original stories by Howard, and it becomes clear that Hollywood hasn't a clue on Conan.

"Conan has always lacked these qualities which should be part of any film which really wants to resonate with the majority of mature balanced men in the audience."--------->so should rapists and murders ALWAYS be portrayed with a feminine side in order to "resonate with the majority"? - hes a fucking barbarian - he kills people for a fucking living for fucks sake, why should he be portrayed as anything other than that? it wouldnt be true to the character. Remember the scene where the thief says something along the lines of "I cry for him, because he is a barbarian - does not cry"
I don't care if they take another shot at the franchise.

And whoever dissed that Conan TV show -- Ralph Moeller was great in it. It's not the actor's fault that the writers were absolutely terrible (we're talking Nightman bad, here). But after reading the collected Conan in comic form, I don't think the physical appearance needs to be on par with a body builder -- Conan was a little more lithe in many of his early adventures. Depends on the source material, I guess. He certainly wasn't the slow dolt that the first film made him out to be, although I do like it and Arnold, for sheer camp factor alone. You can never have too much barbarian camp! Could you imagine big-budget Conan in a true fantasy setting? It sort of reminds me a little of Flash Gordon when I think about it, only set in the Ice Age.

. . .THE ROCK?!?! Or better yet, TRIPPLE-FUCKIN'-H!!!! WHOOOO-HOOOOOO!! Just kidding. I mentioned Crowe 'cause he can actually ACT, which is important if a new Conan film is to be done properly. And I agree that the suckitude of DESTROYER doesn't tarnish the origional, but I'd still like to see it redone properly. Those are the only kind of remakes that should be made--potentially good ideas that cratered on execution. "Once more unto the breach dear friends. . ."

After I suggested the Rock in jest, I thought about it and you're right--he's not gonna have too much dialog anyway and the job really DOESN'T require Oscar-level acting. If he can be the Scorpion King in MUMMY part deux, he can do this. The main thing is the script. It has to be GOOD, and it has to be EPIC; that's where DESTROYER really fell down. I may read some of the Conan books later this year, and after LOTR breaks in December perhaps I'll put together a scriptiment.
