End this franchise

It's time to put the Bond franchise to pasture. Other than the opening chase sequence, TWINE was basically shit on celluloid. I know Bond films are almost guaranteed box office money, but it's a tired franchise that needs to fade away.
But the dvd menu on TWINE was really cool.

pierce brosnan and michelle yeoh versus international cartel of villainy. (gee, what's new?) bad guys include russell wong (so he can have a lightning-quick martial arts duel with ms yeoh), nicol williamson (as the urbane brit mastermind) and alec baldwin (as a rogue intelligence agent who goes toe to toe with brosnan's bond). julianna margulies as the bond girl (smart, sexy, capable - polar opposite of denise richards). martin campbell is brought back to direct. all these actors are affordable, talented and have great screen presence. this director can do the job, as 'goldeneye' has demonstrated. brosnan can kick ass when the situation demands it. yeoh...well, say no more. if we can get a DECENT SCRIPT (no lame one-liners, a resonably complex story), then we won't be ashamed to go to a bond movie anymore. remember when bond was cool?

I recently bought the Spy Who Loved Me on DVD and Anya Amasova is by far the best Bond girl. She was Bond's equal and matched him. Wei Lin was a Chinese Agent for godsakes! Making Red China a good guy is ludicrous. What next an Afghani / Iraqi / Iranian / Cuban / North Korean / Libyan / Serbian good guy agent? TND and TWINE were subpar 007. I felt like saying Austin Powers lines throughout ( ' now I will put you is an easily escapable situation in which I won't kill you quickly ... ).

Roger moore kicked ass.. he may not have been as suave and handsome as connery but his films at least didn't have 50's technology! Man with the Golden Gun and Octopussy and Spy Who Loved Me were the three best bond movies ever made and Moonraker was pretty good too....ok view to a kill did suck... they shoulda re-tuned the script and let dalton do it... it woulda been better i think! roger moore bonds have more action sequences, better action sequences, more women, moore got more poon then connery ever did, plus he's just so fun! connery played the part so damn... odd... moore played the part with pride.. and he always let the audience know he loved his job... dalton was well... different. i personally didn't mind him(hell living daylights was a pretty good flick... that bitch with the violin was HOT)and Pierce brosnan kicks ass.. Goldeneye was and IS the second best james bond movie of all time.. excellent women excellent actors excellent everything.. pure adrenaline rush.. perfect! and unfortunatly that was brosnans mistake.. he hit his peak to early.. it's gonna be pretty damn tough to hit a high note as high as goldeneye was.. i kinda liked tomorrow never dies but not near as much as goldeneye or octopussy... and The World Is Not Enough had some VERY cool features and some very sucky features... like renard! this was the coolest and most intreresting villian a bond movie has seen since Jaws... except he's got so much emoptional power to him.. he rocked... bad point was that he was never fully explored or explained! he needed to develop the character some more... i mean he doesn't show up ij the blasted movie till it's half over! what could have been for robert carlyle oh my.... sophie marceau is so fucking unbelievably hot.. i mean it's criminal.. i own the DVD of thedavid spoade horror picture lost & found simply cause i can't believe how gorgeous sophie is.... she was perfect for elektra... perfect... then we get denise richards... beautiful girl with a sexy ass... but unfortunatly her sexy ass acted better then she did... in fact her ass outclassed her and in every way was just better then her... but this was overall a good bond film cause i liked brosnans new colder bond.. i hope to see some more of this bond in the 20th film...

Why oh why must this franchise continue? Now, I don't like to use the word "hate" to describe anything, BUT man alive I INTENSLY DISLIKE the James Bond series. Why? Because it's soooo pretentious and self-important. Because Bond is an invulnerable superhero. He's a Superman who doesn't have to worry about Kryptonite - he has no weaknesses that he can't overcome, totally flawless. Because (and I don't care what you say, but so help me God, it's true) the series is formulaic as hell. It's like watching the same episode of a cartoon over and over again. And I can't stand "Bond Girls," dammit! So he's a handsome spy...does that mean that every girl he looks at MUST fall in love AND sleep with him? And if I hear one more one-liner during a fight scene I will snap (...maybe I have already...) Will someone PLEASE make an intelligent, original and honestly fun spy movie? Please...no more Bond.

Maude Adams

I think they meant recurring Bond girl character, not actress. Maude Adams played two different characters in the two different movies, being as her character the first time around died abruptly early in movie. Eunice Gayson played Sylvia Trench both times around. Anyway, personally, this news does not excite me. Nothing wrong with Yeoh, but I just didn't take to her character enough to want to see a reprise. (The fact that they felt necessary to slo-mo her character in a fight scene also bugs me. It's very un-Bond.) Bond is teetering on being stale without them forcing the issue. Let her do something more interesting. (Felix Lighter may have been a recurring character, but he wasn't prominently featured. There may be recurring characters, but when the action got going, Bond is supposed to be the one-man army.)

There have been *two* Bond girls who were in more than one film: the girl who played Sylvia Trench in Dr. No and From Russia with Love, and Maud Adams in Moonraker and Octopussy. Considering the way that Harry touts himself to be a Bond expert, I'm surprised he let this one slip by.

First, start looking for a new Bond, because Brosnan just doesn't click. Now I was a big supporter of Brosnan when he landed the part, but he's just too soft. His best film of the nineties was The Thomas Crown Affair. Why? Because it clicked. He was right for that part. He was the distinguished rich bored finance geek. But he's no tough secret agent. Actors who would be much better are Jack Davenport(The Talented Mr. Ripley), Jeremy Northam(The Net), James Purefoy(Lighthouse) or Dougray Scott(Mission: Impossible 2). Now I'm not saying Brosnan is a terrible Bond(Moore is an example of a terrible Bond), but I prefered Connery and Dalton. Second, get a title that's catchy. I have to admit that EON knows a good title when they see one so I'm pretty sure the next Bond will have a decent titles. Here are a couple of suggestions; 'A Whisper of Hate', 'Crash Drive', 'For Queen and Country' and of course you can always call the next Bond 'Everything or Nothing'. Third, never ever EVER cast a silicone queen like Denise Richards as a rocket science. A Bond girl should have class, not be late for it. Choose acting talent over looks. Fourth, hire an action director. Apted ruined the last 15 minutes of TWINE. Get a new director for the next one. I think I've made my point. Boat Drinks!

Alec Baldwin as a rogue American agent would actually be great. Hell, outside of the brainwashed United States, Cuba isn't at odds with the world either. And didn't Bond team up with Russian agents during the cold war?

I think Tomorrow Never Dies was the best bond film. Goldeneye made absolutely no sense and TWINE made even less! At least TND had a story that could be followed. Plus, Michelle Yeoh was good and how can I forget Teri Hatcher's bedroom scene? Wow. Anyway, it would be cool to have Michelle Yeoh show up and have her and Bond go through some kind of Die Hard thing together. She is about the only Bond girl that's been his equal.

I think that the reason Michelle Yeoh works so well is that she is a true martial artist, not just a Hollywood wannabe. She brings authenticity to the role as well as her Asian charms. One of her best works, prior to CTHD, was an early one called "Yes, Madam". In it she teamed up with martial arts action legend, Cynthia Rothrock and the movie was truly outstanding (for a Hong Kong film). Now if only the Broccoli camp were smart enough to land Ms. Rothrock for the next Bond film (maybe as a foil to Yeoh) now THAT would be something refreshing to see!

I've been pushing for a while the concept of an UBER Bond movie starring ALL of the bonds. Basically the movie would set up that James Bond 007, is just a code name for Britains elite secret agent (just like M, Q, Felix lighter, etc... are all codes as well). The plot would be that after one of the ex-bonds is murdered (George Lazemby - in the opening sequence)), that M begins to worry that a contract has been put on all the ex-bonds, and it's Brosnen's job to go out and warn/save them all. He arrives just in time to save Roger Moore from an assassination attempt in England, and both Moore and Brosnen go to the Virgin Islands to find Tim Dalton. Eventually after picking up Dalton, the 3 Bonds discover that Specter has been re-formed (After the new M is murdered... Miss Money penny overhears the atack, and she and Q manage to escape), and has Connery hostage, but when the final confrontation occurs we learn that it's the Connery Bond that has brought back Specter. Bond is put into a unique (for him) situation, in that he CANNOT outsmart his opponent, or depend on some weird villain stalling expository sequence, and the current Bond must in fact sacrifice himself to foil the older Bonds plans. The franchise could then move on with Roger Moore as the new M, and Connery primed to return as the head of the returning Specter. Tim Dalton could co-star in the next film in order to train the new bond. Now that's the Bond film *I* would like to see.

...none other than Xenia Onatopp, played by Famke Jansenn! I don't care if she was a villain, she still rocked! And sorry, out of the last 3 Bond films, TND has been the one I liked least. Like Harry said, the villains were hopeless. Michelle Yeoh was good though. Teri Hatcher wasn't. She was in the film for like 15 mins altogether, if that. Nothing. I actually didn't mind TWINE, although Denise Richards is pretty funny as the nuclear physicist. Robert Carlyle and Sophie Marceau as the villains, however, were great. And by the way, I like that idea about the Bond film featuring all the past Bond actors. It actually sounds like a great story too.

The concept that each actor was in fact a different person altogether using the alias "James Bond 007" is a good idea, but the films have been adamant that they all were playing the same, ageless guy for the last 40 years. George Lazenby married Diana Rigg's character, Tracy Di Vincio in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". She was killed by that film's incarnation of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Telly Savalas. At the beginning of "For Your Eyes Only" Roger Moore is seen placing flowers on the grave of "Tracy Di Vincio Bond". He is then ambushed by Blofeld (Also being played by yet another actor and only identifiable by his bald pate, generic Eastern Euro/Mediterranian accent and white Persian cat) but manages to turn the tables and drop him down a factory chimney. A rather comically anticlimactic way to end a 20 year long arch rivalry, especially considering that in the original Ian Fleming books, Bond finally gets him at the end of "You Only Live Twice" in a fantastic samurai sword duel. Of course this franchise routinely defies all sorts of logic, why would they care about their own established continuity?

I never thought I would see the day that I would be tired of my favorite spy movie franchise, and I have enjoyed the Brosnan movies, but I think it is time to put them to rest if they can't come up with anything more original than what we have been offered in the last ten years. After Monday's Charlie's Angels screening, my friend and I turned to each other and said, "why can't the Bond movies be that much fun?" Maybe Drew Barrymore and McG can save the next Bond movie, because after what I saw Monday, I don't want to see much else for awhile. I can't wait to see people's responses to Charlie's Angels so I can guage wether I am crazy or not.

I think that the return of Michelle Yeoh to Bond 20 in a role any bigger than as a Felix Leiter-esque sidekick would be a mistake. A small cameo would be fine -- I like it when they reference previous films, but a larger role would be (perhaps) a step backward for the Bond franchise. I'm all for Bond bedding some Asian babes, but how about some new girls, whaddya say? It seems EVERYONE wants SPECTRE to return and I am no exception. Blofeld's "death" has never been dealt with in even a remotely satisfying way. In Diamonds are Forever, the last official Blofeld appearance, his demise is ambiguous. And his Dr. Evil-esque death in For Your Eyes Only is played mainly for laughs. Why not bring him back for one last confrontation? Does Kevin McClory still have the rights? I wouldn't mind seeing Terence Stamp, Patrick Stewart, or Anthony Hopkins (wishful thinking)stepping into the role. Or maybe they should just get around to adapting Casino Royale. ANYONE who says that the David Niven/Woody Allen version is the "best Bond film ever" gis in need of some serious mental help.

It could make sense - bring back a younger Jack Ryan, somewhere after Red October and b4 Patriot Games. It could even be a younger Bond, set b4 Goldeneye - so none of this 2000 crap. No millenium domes or anything. It could take place after the fall of the soviet curtain and have a russian ally - Connery as Ramus!! Brosnan can remain Bond - he doesn't look older than he did in Goldeneye. Have someone young play Ryan - NOT BEN AFFLECK!! Perhaps Brad Pitt or.... Edward Norton !! Have Fincher direct. I personally have never understood the problem so many people have with Timothy Dalton as Bond. I thought he was great! If you've ever read any of the books,Dalton captures that character better then anyone. Now the best of the movie Bonds is without question Sean Connery BUT Timothy Dalton actually comes the closest to the character that Ian Fleming wrote.
Connery is not the perfect Bond...
by Brodiebruce

10:43:52 AM
From Russia with Love and Goldfinger are Connery's best. All you Connery fans can wear your rose-colored glasses and pretend like they were all great. Let's face it Connery's first three are the ones you Connery ass kissers like. The series was getting so stale with Connery by Thunderball. Let's talk about Diamonds are Forever where he is fat and his hair is a mess. James Bond with a wig. Say what you will about Roger Moore but at least he had his own hair. Connery has shown us over the last 40 years that he is playing the same character in every movie and that is himself. He is not even original with his James Bond. He is ripping off Frank Sinitra in those rat pack movies. Here is the way Connery's Bonds went: Dr. No is okay, From Russia with Love is his best( Except for that lame ass scene on the train right before Bond and Red Grant fight. Bond has his gun trained on Red Grant and what does he do instead of shooting him he puts his gun down and turns his back on him to look at a goddamn map. All this dumb stuff happens so they can have a great fight. What spy would put his gun down and turn his back to an enemy!? The writers couldn't think of a better way to have them fight.), Goldfinger where everything came together perfectly, Thunderball gadgets, gadgets, gadgets trying to recapture that Goldfinger magic, You Only Live Twice is so bad YOU Can Barely Sit Through it Once and is racist as hell with Sean in china man makeup this would be like Roger Moore wearing blackface to hide out in Jamaica in Live and let Die, Diamonds are Forever is the most disgusting walk through of a part I have ever scene and has the ugliest Bond Women ever. All you guys can do is bitch and moan about Roger Moore. He is constantly ripped apart even his wardrobe is made fun of. Well it was the 70's and 80's. What were you wearing back then.Moore is actually british and Connery was some Scottish truck driver. "Connery is macho and can throw a punch" that is what you fans always say. That's all he has. He is not sophisticated and has a thick scottish brogue. Dalton would have been the best Bond of all if he was given a chance but he was too real and great an actor for you losers. Now you have some effeminate david copperfield/Bob Goen look alike as Bond who can't even come up with an original performance so what does he do he rips off Sean Connery like Lazenby did before him. Pierce Bronsan is a SUPPORTING actor not a leading man. He is a hack piece of shit who's one emotion is to squint. He looks like he is smelling someones farts. This guy is NOT James Bond. Hey Barbara Brocolli get Hugh Jackman for Bond and let a real director to direct one of these things. Spielberg has said for years that he wants to direct one so what's the problem. Stop getting these average directors and get some balls and take some chances. Set it in the 60's, give it a spy feel and stop with all this generic action crap with no story! Get a new Bond already! Pierce is a pussy. His acting reminds me of those bad High School plays where no one acted natural. Even when he runs he is "acting". So get off your lazy complacent ass and call Spielberg. You hack who wishes she had her fathers talent.

No China isn't at war with the rest of the world but considering it constantly threatens to level Taiwan if it declares independence, Tianenmen Square, the Government totalitarian rule over its people, current human rights abuses and suprression of the democracy movement, and the global threat China poses ( esp. in Asia ),yeah I'd say they are still among the bad guys of the world. Just look at Hong Kong, they might have given them a looser chain than the mainland but they are still restricted by the Communists and their proxys in HK. Cuba might not be hated by the world as US politicians hate it, but it still has a long way to go. No I am not an anti-Cuba person but gimme a break. The Communist government does indeed rule with an iron fist still. People aren't free to criticize Castro & the govt, etc. The reason most of the world is so accepting of China and Cuba is because they ( whatever Western nation ) can make major bucks there. Be it Canadian resorts in Cuba or selling the Chinese cell phones. I am sure TND was well received in Beijing and the producers knew it would be.

For her third Bond movie she is a background extra at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco when Bond is meeting the CIA agent. So she says on the DVD anyway...

If you've never seen TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE, you should really check it out. Not only is it the best Tarzan movie ever made, it's a terrific action movie on it's own account, with one of the screens best villians (Anthony Quayle's, "I'm going to kill him with my own hands" Slade), and Sean Connery as a bad guy who ends up as cannibal chow. Note Connery in a scene with a spider 3 years before a nearly shot for shot scene in DR. NO. Unfortunately, this movie is not on video, but it does show up on AMC now and again.

I am "one of the bad guys of the world". What do you want? You want to kill me? What kind of propaganda have you heard from CNN? The media are backed by the big corp.s. You think they are going to let you know everything? Who's going to be benefited from having another cold war? Should I say only in the world greatest nation, a scientist can be jailed for 9 months just because of his ethic background and the people of that nation don't care just because he generically belongs to those

By the way, Blofeld/SPECTRE can't return, as Eon Productions apparently no longer have copyright on the man with the cat and his criminal outfit, which seems to be a reason why the "rival" Bond, Never Say Never Again (which reworked Thunderball, the flick that introduced Blofeld) was able to get made. So a film geek buddy tells me, anyway. You'll notice that while the guy in the For Your Eyes Only opening is clearly MEANT to be Blofeld, no one refers to him or to SPECTRE by name. So, er, don't hold your breath, SPECTRE fans.
Here are my two cents on Bond 007

First of all, I prefer Bond in the Ian Fleming novels than in the movies. Except a few slips here and there the English author created a coherent and fascinating universe with Bond as its center. Most of the films did little or no justice at all to Fleming's books. Anyway, I consider "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "From Russia with Love" the best entries in the film series. Both movies show a more realistic Bond, without virtually any gimmick (well, FRWL had that wonderful suitcase)and full action in exciting locales. The girls were different each time yet both were high examples of Bond women (Daniela Bianchi, Diana Rigg resopectively). The music score in both films were superb. Robert Shaw gave his character a realistic charm in the Orient Express scenes in FRWL and Telly Savalas was a true down-to-earth Blofeld in OHMSS. Finally, Connery was excellent as the cold, suave spy (never was that term so well used in a 007 flick) and Lazenby maybe encapsulated the literary Bond the best (well, Dalton is a close second in this category, I guess). By the way, those films were the closest to the Fleming source in the total series. I think it was good in retrospective that Connery didn't do OHMSS. Lazenby's only shot as 007 remains unique and suits his persona better than the rough Scottish. All those who critisize the Australian must see that Lazenby brought to the part the graceful and ironic light humour that later Moore took to extremes and Brosnan tries to hold into place.
Yeoh, Yeoh, Yeoh

Regarding the rumour as to Michelle Yeoh coming back as Chinese top secret agent and Bond's circunstancial sister-in-arms, I think it wouldn't harm the series and her character if her part in the new 007 film is rather short, as a special guest only. Maybe in the teaser, for the opening precredit scenes are usually the high voltage ones. Eunice Gayson's part in the first two films were short and mainly decorative, proposed as a recurring funny situation with Bond always having to leave his English girlfriend behind to go on mission... only after giving her some kisses and whatever else. The idea was obviously dropped for "Goldfinger" onwards. Eunice Gayson's daughter had a very brief appearence in the Casino scene (how appropiate) in "Goldeneye". Finally, I think Brosnan does a good and honest job in the part but his Bond is obviously recycled from previous ones, mixed with Die Hard trigger happiness and shaken with digital technothrillers. The best parts, for me, in "Goldeneye" and "TWINE" were the ones that put suspense in front, with dark sceneries, mysterious background music and a pistol (not an automatic sub machine gun) firmly placed in Bond's right hand. Ahh, they just don't make spy movies like the classic ones (any of the first three in the series, for example) anymore.
Eunice Gayson NOT the only one

Eunice Gayson did appear in the first two 007 movies, DR NO and FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, but she is not the only one to make a comeback. Jamaican actress Martine Beswick had minor roles in both FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (as a gypsy) and THUNDERBALL (as agent Paula Kaplan). Maud Adams had a major role in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (as Andrea), then later had the title role in OCTOPUSSY. It is true to say that Eunice Gayson was the only one to appear twice as the same character...as Bond's girlfriend, Sylvia Trench. Actually, it WOULD be true to say it if you didn't count Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenney. And no, Barbara Bach did not appear twice in the series, only once.
Hope for Dalton?

I like Yeoh's character in TND, but it's not one of my favorites. I must say that I am a Living Daylights fan, I thought it was great. I loved Dalton in it. I liked him in LTK also, but didn't really like the story. Living Daylights was everything I like in a Bond...specially Kara! Yeah Baby! What is the story with Dalton? Is there a chance he may come back in another Bond franchise..something about a revised Thunderball? Anyone help me out there? Send me an email if you know anything about that whole deal. But if we're on the subject of Bond, I have to say that Goldeneye, well, Goledenye ROCKS THE HOUSE!! Bond Women? Well all I need is Onnatop, hands down. Famke is the one for me. Speaking of Bond women, Denise Richards was used only for her body, I know they didn't get her for her acting. TWINE was better than TND, but it is going to be hard to top Goldeneye in my book. I hope Brosnan gets to really top it in the next installment, I think that he can if they get a good script. He's got the character down now, all that is needed is the right story. I agree, it needs more spy elements to it...maybe a little assasination ala Living Daylights! And let's do away with the PC and all, I want Bond to be hardcore, not worried about offending. Hey and Judi Dench leaving as M? I like her, she's pretty raw herself! HIS JOB! Anyway, I loved the Equalizer too, so if Woodward comes on board, that's is okay I guess. And I can't wrap up without saying that it won't be the same without Q. (Does anyone find it strange in how they handled him in the last movie and then he died right after it came out? Weird...) I'm gonna miss Desmond in 20. He was definitely, no matter who played Bond, the man. That's it.
