Lexx would be nothing without it's incredible lead-in, Farscape. I too have tried to watch it, but it sucks for the most part. I was turned off to it almost immediately when I realized thst sci-fi in it's infinitesimal wisdom had started airing it in mid-series with some cheezy recap episode to catch us up. Sci-Fi has been going downhill for a long time and this isn't helping a bit. On an unrelated note, what the hell is BattleBots doing on Comedy Central? Why not Sci-Fi, Discovery, or USA??

Ah, this is fine news. Lexx may only appeal 1 in 10 people (if that), but for those of us in that happy minority, this is indeed cause for celebration. For those of you who haven't sampled it yet, don't let the naysayers scare ya. It's sort of like Star Trek meets Twin Peaks if it were made by Ed Wood... kinda. Weird, funny, and unlike anything else on TV. Hopefully this'll mean I'll finally be able to buy a talking 790 toy! That would kick so much ass.
Lexx and Boobies

Doesn't Lexx ever show boobies? The fargin' show is on cable! Albeit basic cable, but I at least see nipple on E! and sometimes on VH1. And Battlebots sucks monkey dung. If there was any way in the world to possibly bore an audience more, it hasn't been found. I really like it when the two spinning machines collide once in the center of the ring and we get to spend the next 3 minutes watching them try to run into each other. Screw the blades coming out the ground 2 inches, make it 2 feet! And how about some smashing machine that would crush the bot with 300lbs of pressure per square inch. That would at least make it interesting. I think all bots should be programmed to scream, then I would watch.

Not sure about American censors, but there were boobs in series three of Lexx here in Britain. I can see why people don't like the show, it's a somewhat aquired taste, but it's mainly the sense of fun i like about it. The stuppid sex episodes tend to be boreing, but where the show reallys shines in episodes like the Scream rip off, with Kai going mad and killing people, or the one with the tv station planet. Has series 3 started in America yet? It's far superior to the last two, and has an ongoung story that links them all, (abeit a clumsy and often contradicting one sometime, how many times did Lexx say he only had enough energy to fire on more shot?). The special effects are better, and the acting is marginally better. Just watch it.

Dear god, is this true? This no-talent programming has a *legion* of fans? As a race we still have progress to make and this show is the proof. I know, I know fanboys you are going to yell at me "This is so creative!". And I will give you this; LEXX is unique and it is creative. It is also revoltingly bad. I dig almost any Sci-Fi but this is too gruesome of a car crash for me to watch. In an age when wrestling can take a top spot in TV again, I guess I can't let the bad taste of millions shock me anymore. America, I don't get you anymore and if this is what you want to watch then feel free to show the rest of the world what a pop culture nightmare we are. And for anyone watching the show for the sex slave : If you are reading this you clearly have a net connection. Porn is out there, save TV for decent shows and go relieve yourself elsewhere. Hell, the porn has better actors!

Oh God, what a terrible show. Tried to watch it twice, just because it was after Farscape, and each time I couldn't stand more than 10 minutes of it. Read the article by that El Cosmico guy about the lead actress and how hot she is, and all I have to say is: what are you, man, BLIND? She's no better looking than your average Hollywood actress. Way too much colagen in the lips and some guy with a new wave haircut. It also doesn't help that the show has cheap, embarassingly-bad, sfx, that doesn't even leave room for "camp", because the show takes itself so seriously. What is supposed to be "weird and creative" is actually a lack of creativity. BOOOOOOOOORING. What I don't get is why Farscape gets so much less ad time than Lexx and the Invisible Man. The best of the 3 shows in their Friday time slot gets next to NO ADVERTISING on regular cable. If Farscape suceeds, its only because of its fan base. If it fails, it's because Sci-fi treats is so shoddily.

Luckily for me, I have. Not only is the writing better than the second season, but the third season has, dare I say it, A STORY ARC. Actually Lexx reminds me of the early seasons of Babylon 5. Though the individual episodes are uneven, and a lot of unimaginative folks deride the show, it lays the groundwork for great things to come. Keep watching and all of you will be very happily surprised.

Regardless of the quality of story-telling (which I also think is inferior), LEXX's computer special effects are, frankly, pretty crude. They do planets well, but everything else is similiar to bad blue-screening, particularly in comparison with Farscape. LEXX is quirky enough to be entertaining, but needs to decide whether it _intentionally_ should go the campy route, or get better graphics.
did any of you think the reason the effect in lexx are so bad is

From what i read here, and about the fact they had to struggle to get a 4th season aired, they're not actually getting that much money to spend on fancy, good looking CG effects. People keep saying it's like season 1 babylon 5. The only reason the effects in that got better was probably because the budget increased and they could afford the extra. And the show, from what I can tell, is intentionally trying to avoid making the decision to go outright camp or not so that can continue switching from serious to comic and back between episodes. sometimes, watching the show every week is like watching a totally different one altogether, that's what i like about it, you never know whats going to happen next week (unless it's the whole ending to the season 3 arc, i had that figured by episode 6 or 7 but getting there was part of the fun). Just stop moaning all of you. If you don't like it because of the admittedly sometimes dodgy story telling, fine, but don't just dismiss it because it doesn't look nice, they just can't afford to make it look much better (although season three did look nice and was more set oriented for the most part so there was less need for bad cg). It is what it's meant to be, fun. There is no other point to the show.

Lexx is the best thing to come out of the Great Empty since (long pause). Anyway, all you critics are bitching about how the special effects aren't good enough, how Xev isn't hot enough, how the story sucks, etc. Let me tell you all something. First, get on your computers, and make better effects than Lexx has. Then, try and get a girl at least a tenth as beautiful as Xev. And finally, sit down and try to make a story better than Lexx. Ain't so easy, is it? The effects are good enough. They get the job done. They aren't supposed to be super-high-quality-pushing-the -limits-of-technology effects. They're not meant to be taken seriously, so lighten up! It's a show for Pete's sake! It's all about entertainment! Xev is quite attractive. Period. The story is good. The early episodes of season two were entertaining, and the Mantrid storyline was great. And now the Fire and Water story is picking up steam.
Lexx's *bad* fx ...

There's no denying that Lexx has some very hit and miss fx.I've watched it from the start and have always been amazed that , the fx vary ,from very good{the pilot series 2 episode *Mantrid* and and most of season 3's stuff}.....to downright bad{whenever Kai is in space ..the green screening is chronic!!!}However the reason peaple notice the bad fx ..is that your actually seeing some!Farscape is always touted as superior, but.. if you watch that show carefully , the fx, are rationed out to a bare minimum. The pilot show had some nice stuff.. but now your lucky to see an exterior shot of their moya craft going past.{For 5 episodes running now, the crew have stayed on their ship. and argued with one another!!!??/}The same for star Trek voyager ..you mostly get flypast shots of craft.Lexx, at least is *going for it* , they havent got the money, for half of what they attempt..but do it anyway!.plus the stuff they try to depict , is just bloody hard to get away with.galaxy wide ,Swarms of flying arms. and 5 mile long, bug ships are just tooo odd and abstract a concept to visually convince..however you do it.Why is everyone so eat up about how good the fx in a show are..relax.Phantom Menace had fx that were, on a technical level , far superior to New Hopes, but it was nowhere near as enjoyable a film.Lexx is a strange and funny show, It takes chances, and doesn't try to be * liked* or even remotely commercial. It falls outside of mainsteame viewer's ideas of tv sci fi.. and is really, closer to the whimsical fantasy ,stuff of.. Baron Munchausen. And for those who say it takes its self seriously...just look at Kai !!

Thats it! Thats what LEXX has reminded me of for the last couple of years! Thanks to the guy who posted that comparison! I haven't been able to put my finger on it until now, and its a perfect comparison. Everyone, stop whinging about the fx. If they're so bad, go and make something better. Can you make a show as off the wall, entertaining and bizarre? Can you pull similar figures? Thought not. It's fun, just like its supposed to be.

For the people who just don't get it, well I suspect those are the same people who didn't like Phantom Menace. Everyone has an opinion and the American way of life and even our laws say that we are free to express it when and where we feel like it. So to those who on this topic have rendered an informed and informative opinion on this subject, thanks and keep up the good work. As for the individuals who continue to make snide, and vulgar comments without any real information or reasoning, all that I can say to you is that you aren't helping your cause. An informed and well-worded opinion is worth the weight of fifty asinine quips. Oh, well on to the subject of Lexx. If you haven't seen the four "Tales From the Parallel Universe" films, please do so, before you harshly judge the basic concept of the series. And if you do, don't watch them on the Sci-Fi channel. They cut and edit without rhyme or reason. I think that Showtime Extreme still airs them occasionally (That's where I first saw the series.). The original films are a far different creature than the thing that is posing as Lexx on SciFi now. I tried to watch the series when it first came on and was sorely saddened by what I saw. First problem and truly a fan-boy issue on my part; No Eva Haberman! Who was this red-headed strumpet who usurped my Zev with the platinum tresses and a body that made you want to cry? Next problem; The stories were not the imaginative, dark and off-beat tales that the original four movies had set into place. In going into a hourly, serialized format, the creators had lost that something. Final: SciFi channel itself. Who is running the content and standards section for the channel? A member of the PTL club? The christian far right will never have anything to fear from the broadcasting on the SciFi channel. About the comment about fanboys with their pants around their ankles...what were they watching? They must have one of those TVs with the "Picture in Picture" mode with the small picture tuned into a Brittney Spears video or something. There isn't anything worth masturbating (Can I print that here?) about on the SciFi channel, unless they are watching old Wonder Woman reruns...(Oh, Lynda...ohhhh....) In short, the Lexx series on SF is not very appealing to me. However, according to sources, they say that some of the problems have been fixed with the stories and that the quality of the plots have returned to pre series levels. I'll give this new season a look and see what's what. Well, enough of my ranting. In orbit, looking down on you all, I'm KragShot and I'm out.

Being from Lexx's hometown, Halifax Nova Scotia and having gone to ubiversity with one of its creators, Lex Gigeroff, the ship's namesake, I'm happy that the show is doing as well as it is. ...But, I just don't like it.It's good for our local economy and gives some of our local talent some work, but I can't watch it. I try, but it's painful. So thanks to all the Lexx fans out there. Believe it or not ..I think xenia Seeburgs lips aren' the result of plastic surgery/collagen!I've seen her at a signing in London and her lips appear to be *natural* {if gigantic!}There was none of the swollen , balloon/bee-sting look of Patsy kensit for example. They were more like Tina Turners , carefully grafted on!Plus in an interview , she mentions being called *fish face* and *duck face* at school. It's also hard to imagine a plastic surgeon creating a mouth like that..he'd be struck off.Im never sure about her looks .Sometimes Xenia looks really nice...but get a certain angle and she resembles the salt Vampire , from Classic star trek!

If you read this before in a previous LEXX talkback, disregard. I'm covering much of the same ground. First off, yes, the "jerkoff sci-fi" argument doesn't hold a lot of water. Xev wears scanty clothing and there's innuendo and some Freudian imagery, but if the show is purely adolescent fantasizing as a result, then so was THE AVENGERS. I think the show succeeds mostly due to good acting. Brian Downey is great as Stanley Tweedle, a guy who'd honestly like to be a better person, but has to struggle with his own cowardice in order to do so. The character is both funny and somehow sympathetic. Michael McManus is locked in a wonderful perpetual deadpan as the dead Kai, and the show uses that to good effect. As for Xenia Seeburg- maybe she's not quite as attractive as Eva Habermann, but she's also a slightly better actress. Her dialogue delivery is more natural. I used to find 790 a bit grating, but now that his attentions are focused on Kai he's actually pretty funny. "How long until we're pointed at the water planet?" "29 necrophilia-filled hours!" It sounds better than it reads. The plots are also fairly inventive, and the design is good if sometimes compromised by the low production values. (But honestly, I don't understand all the griping about FX. Haven't any of you guys seen a DOCTOR WHO episode?) LEXX ain't perfect, but it's a nice "flipside" to FARSCAPE, and is sometimes downright compelling. I'm glad its voyages will continue.

I feel that I'm in the minority in saying that I love both Farscape AND Lexx. For completly different reasons. Farscape provides for coherent plots, intriguing story archs and damn fine drama. The writers often take standard sci-fi plots and twist them to their own nefarious purposes (that's a good thing). As an example just look at the recent episodes "The Locket" and the episode prior to it. Some of the most innovative writing I've seen in years on TV. Simply wonderful. Farscape exists in a complex and beautiful universe that is wonderfully drawn out. This is what is easily making Farscape a worthy successor to Babylon 5 in quality, entertainment, and drama in Sci-fi TV. All of this detracts little from Lexx. While not outstanding television, Lexx serves as quite the venerable television show. It's different, and that's what makes it good. If you can find Paul Donovan's rules for Lexx writers, you will have found quite an interesting and humorous bit of information. Lexx is all about its characters and little else. It's an entertaining show to me and if it's not for you, then it's not for you. But if you like off-the-wall weirdness and often-times saying WTF? after most of the episodes, then by all means, tune in. You'll enjoy it. BTW, Gorgar2, you sound like a protege of Saint Bill Hicks (long live his name and blessed be his ranting). Just thought I'd point that out. Oh, and hi LSHB. Good to see you tune into Lexx as well.

OK I may not have not seen enough to give a real opinion, but I have seen the movie and two episodes and I gave up after that because the episodes just seemed childish. Maybe they have changed it, maybe I just saw two really bad episodes, but the ones I saw reminded me more of that old "far out space nuts" series with Bob Denver than Babylon 5. I don't care about the special effects, I just want characters I can enjoy intead of rolling my eyes at. I like the dead guy character, but the captain is just too goofy to be in a show that what you say has some plot and story arc. For those of you that haven't seen it, imagine if a whiny mixture of Shaggy from scooby doo and Gilligan was on a space ship with a sex kitten and a vulcan goth musician and the gilligan guy was always horned up but the sex kitten didn't want him. Then they fly around the galaxy and wackiness ensues. Now like I said, I have only seen two episodes and the movie so I could be wrong, but I can't imagine how much different it could be the rest of the time. Oh, and don't confuse people with that Baron Munchausen comparison, I saw Baron Munchausen, I loved Baron Munchausen, this sir, is no Baron Munchausen.

Yes, the other post is right..I too was talking more about the fairytale Munchhausen stories rather than the Gillian movie, though there are some simular elements from both..The pilot episode of Lexx and several of the series 2 stories , had nothing to do with Munchausen.so I can see how it would seem odd to mention it in relation to Lexx. However The opening episode of season 2 {Mantrid} with its villian consisisting of a floating head...was very munchausen {The king of the moon stuff}the episodes called *Brigadoom* {an all singing one} and the second to last episode *Brizon* are very Munchausen{more in visual terms than theme or story}Lexx series 3 is what I was really going on about, with its crumbling towers/castles and floating balloon skyships.Lexx has at least a semi German background to it..so that may explain the Munchausen connection in some way.On the subject of Stanly Tweedle being insufferable..I can see that. But you really had to see the overall series.Stan's pathetic attempts at getting women, formed the middle section of season 2 .Each week, he would be lured or tricked into endangering himself, and ended up suffering! This culminated in the nasty *791*Episode , where a big gay android was after his ass!Stan's meant to be obnoxious... he's also self serving and weak, but he does *try* to do good . I find that, a sight more realistic and *human* , than the usual heroes in sci fi.I've a theory that peaple don't like Lexx because it tends to subvert everything , that theyre used to, in tv sci fi convention.Instead of dependable and paternal capt kirk or Janeaway.Lexx's Captain is a frail and selfish ,janitor type .The nearest thing Lexx has to a hero is Kai...and hes dead ,effeminate and emasculated{Series 3 shows , he has what looks like a piece off a motorbike engine and nine, 14 inch metal rods where, his cock should be!}The ship looks like a big penis! And so on. You're not meant to take any of it seriously.relax a bit.The stories don't make sense? They do, believe it or not...but sometimes you understand weeks Or years later. The episode called *Stan's trial* ,cleared up stuff from the pilot movie..three years after it was shown!!.*Brigadoom* made sense of the same movies opening scenes. There is a logic behind the seemingly random storytelling. The shows trying to do something a bit different. Now that said , I can see how the casual viewer , is going to look at the show..get confused , not like what theyre seeing and turn over. That's ok.I can't expect anyone to watch everysingle episode of Lexx and then form their own opinion..thats not how it works!Everyone seems to love Farscape.I've tried to watch it , {And have seen about 15 episodes} but i just can't get into it.The characters seem too * hippyish* theres something a bit flower powerish, about the show.It looks good. But from photos alone, you'd expext the series ,to be a whole lot more *way out* than it is.Its all rather conventional.Plus I find it a bit tame.It seems a tad too sanitised for adults..yet too boring for kids.and veeery glossy. However as I say..some peaple love it..others love Lexx, both shows are trying something new , lets leave it at that.
