For the love of all Bullet festivals...if the Wachowski's are to keep this in the realm of the uber cool, then please cast Jean Reno. While the rest of the cast has to do back flips with guns to lookd dangerous, Reno just has to pick one up and point it. Oh and my vote for the young sexy french creature?..Virginie Ledoyen...Why ?, just look at her for criminys sake.Commander Lock?..why not complete the homage and in-joke and use either Bruce Boxleitner or Jeff Bridges, cos say what you like fanboys but Tron got there first 18 years ago, come to think of it, someone should get their finger out and port that Criterion laserdisc from a few years ago onto DVD already and make my christmas.*toodlepip*

I think that Robert Carlyle, would be brilliant as Commander Lock. Vannessa Paradis would be good as the french girl, with Jean Reno as the older man. The Kid should be played by a newcomer, but make sure the acting is way better than Jake 'Yipeee' Lloyd. And great news that JET LI is cast, Should be KUNG FU-TASTIC.

Harry, how can you (rightfully) bash Tea Leoni in your intro to the last JP3 scoopt and DEMAND Vanessa Paradis (talent free zone) to be in the Matrix sequels? The fact that she's french doesn't make her a better actress.

Let's be honest, like ever heterosexual man in the world who has ever seen Vanessa Paradis, I worship the cells in the back of my retina which allow me to see her. Hell, I'm sure that I could replay every single scene from that 'Be My Baby' video of a few years ago in my mind. She *is* perfection but, and let's be clear about this, don't ever pretend she can act. Hot little Eurobop songstress does not equal actual talent. I have more faith in the acting skills of Britanny Spears.

It's not outside the realm of possibility, you know. And of course it's always possible that Dog Star is really Keanu hisself. I was positive I spotted Kevin Spacey in a TalkBack once- I mean, it sounded JUST LIKE HIM. Oh, and Vanessa Paradis is a terrible, terrible actress. Please no. Virginie Ledoyen is a little better, but come on, we're talking about a FRENCH WOMAN here. They're all hot. Finding one who can act too (like, oh I don't know, Julie Delpy) shouldn't be that difficult.

What's with the Jet Li bashin' here... the previous gung-ho xenophobe jerk-off I don't even count. I'll bet you guys have seen like, two Jet Li movies-- probably Lethal Weapon 4 and Romeo Must Die, right? He's never gonna do a dramatic role sure, but he's got charisma and even a bit of range. He's a better actor than Arnold or Sly and well... Keanu... sure, I know he's easy to pick on. Check out Fong Sai Yuk and Swordsman II, then watch Tai Chi Master, and then try to recall LW4, no need to watch it again unless you got a free copy with your DVD player. He can emote a relatively wide variety of emotions just fine, and he's got charisma to spare. And he'd look great kicking fanboy ass for making snap judgments in a failed attempt to justify their self worth.

Put the two oif them in a film and I'd be there. Jet might not be that great an actor but he has presence. He can make that wire work look cooler than anyone else and if he had a big budget american film to work with (the wire work in romeo was cool but still not top shelf) he could kick ass and show us more than the glimpse we got in Lethal Weapon 4. Put him in with Jean Reno who could even make that turd Godzilla watchable for the few minutes he was in it and you have magic. I hope they Wachowskis are as big a fan of Besson as they are of the Hong Kong films so we can see this happen. Also does anyone know what is up with Jet Li and Bessons project?

Since people are throwing around Jean Reno's name, I'd like to bring up the movie that most of us Pre-Leon fans remember first seeing him in as Viktor The Cleaner. And in it was this badass chick who proved her action chops, is still drop dead gorgeous, and is now old enough to believably be Morpheus's old flame, and is a damn fine actress to boot - Anne Paurilaud, the ORIGANAL La Femme Nikita.

Was I the only one who wasnt that impresed with the Matrix? The camera work and effects were awesome, yes. But so is a ride at Universal Studios. I just feel like it had no story. And as far as a sequel goes, they're streching an already thin concept. Also, techno music should be banned from sci-fi films.
French actors...

Oh well, stop mentioning BAD frencha ctors/actresses, when they're good one too. Vanessa Paradis and Sophie Marceau(Braveheart, TWINE) can not act. Period. Even in french movies, they're definitiely bad. I know it's mostly action, but why cast them, or Tcheky karyo. Or mention Depardieu whose ego is overinflated since he went to Hollywood. Yes perhaps aren't they worse than keanu is and can they be good in the movies. I think Anne Parillaud could indeed do good job, as Julie Delpy; plus they can act (see Delpy in 3 colors:White, great!). cast any bad american actor there, but please the french who will be in will be far widely known after Matrix than before. I don't want to see the bad ones becoming world-wide famous, when good ones could be. And for Van Damme: he's a total moron, he is belgian, and he cannot even speak french but only mumbling, letting some french mixed with mostly english words coming out. If the french guy isn't young but rather in his 50s, and you want a badass, why not try Richard Bohringer (assuming the part isn't too physical due to the age of the guy). If you want young ones, take Vincent Cassel or Albert Dupontel for instance. The choice is bigger than you may think...

Not to mention, he LOOKS like an arrogant asshole. I just wanna slap his non-moving emotionless face. And i aint scared of that jackasses supposed "martial arts". everyone knows movie martial arts and real fighting are vastly different. if he came to my house lookin for trouble, you can bet your ass i'd send him home in stitches. I agree with the fact that Julie Delpy is pobably the best product that ever came out of France (on the chicks side of course). She would be simply brilliant in the matrix and she is still looking ofr that big break that never seems to come out. Her various performances proved her talent. Damn! She even managed to put some life in that lame-o Americam Werewolf in Paris.

I hate to seem like the sensitive new-age guy here, but have you lot noticed how much you refer to women as sluts, bitches and hos? If you call Vannessa Paradis a slut, it doesn't mean she is, and it certainly doesn't mean she'd fuck you. Why? Cause she's fucking Johnny Depp, and he doesn't sit at a computer all day picking his acne. Go out and meet some actual women for christ's sake. And I know this will receive plenty of responses along the lines of "Man, I've fucked more bitches than you can imagine, in fact I'm doing three right now!" To this, I respond preemptively; "Dream on, fanboy." BTW, Anne Parilaud was a good call, whoever said that, as is Tcheky Kario. Although Jean Reno is the coolest motherfucker ever to have lived.

Both are incredibly talented and can speak english well, especially Gainsbourg. Ledoyen was alright in Chabrol's "La Ceremonie," but that film belonged to Isabelle Huppert and Sandrine Bonnaire. I'm just saying I haven't seen Virginie Ledoyen really stretch herself, but then again, it is really hard to keep up with contemporary French cinema while living in Illinois. Example: I just saw Jan Kounen's "DOBERMANN" last week instead of three years ago. Wonder how many inches of dust are on top of it at Miramax? I was surprised. It's more like Alex de Iglesias than Besson.

So a young, fit, hard, fit chick then... well the area is a little dry today but surely Angelina Jolie has got to be a favorite. She has all those characteristics, and to boot she was in HACKERS!! I guess though a cult status movie of such proportion doesnt really want the forth comming Lara Croft I guess though. But who else could play such a part? The hard sexy attresses dept. seems to be pretty dry right now! Saying that though Mira Sorvino (the chcik from THRE REPLACEMENT KILLERS) did a good job in that movie. She was wicked in JOAN OF ARC as well. Okay so she doesn't have the same appeal (you know what I mean) as Jolie but to come back to the tomb raider thing... heheh So cult status movie requires a older, french guy. He will wanna be hard yet intelligent. So can anyone see that as NOT being Jean Reno? No! Moving on... 40-ish leader type guy then. Gabriel Byrne? The priest from STIGMATA and the cool guy from USUAL SUSPECTS. Maybe even the psycho geezer from PITCH BLACK could be considered? Okay so he ain't that old, blah blah blah... but the voice(!), the size of the guy, his attitude... basically him in PITCH BLACK would be pretty fucking mad man! He could make a good replacement to Agent Smith perhaps otherwise? And finally for the few that are questioning the casting of Jet Li. Lets consider breifly the cast of the original. Now with the exception of Fishburne & Joe Pantoliano... we have Carrie-Anne Moss, Marcus Chong, Julian Arahanga, Matt Doran (from an Australian soap I ask you?!), etc... now with all due respect each of their respective experience pre-matrix was pretty thin man and I am being generous with that! You can argue but check it out on imdb.com - I shit you not! And then of course Mr Anderson. Now Keanu the old boy has done a few good things but at the end of the day, heh, he ain't that great. Then the MATRIX comes along and wham! he is great again! Now the Wachowski's know what they are doing don't they and if they can make Keanu a legend then maybe they can get Jet Li to act. Prettu thin yeah, but look at what they got out of the original. Lets hope...

I think the implication is that anyone who has no talent is a "ho" or if male a "fag" because they had to sleep their way to whatever position they achieved. Hollywood being what it is, this is not a preposterous assumption. There are plenty of folks WITH talent that have had to do some unsavory things to get to where they are. This is sad but certainly doesn't justify the name calling.
