That guy has incredible martial arts ability! Also, "Six String Samurai" is a really fun film! Lots of in-jokes. An overlooked cult classic! Well directed and beats the crap out of any pre-1982 Roger Corman flick! Can't wait for their future projects to hit the screen! Good luck guys!

I meant, POST 1982 Roger Corman flick! Thank you for that clarification session.

I lived in China for a while, and I have to say that that's not really anything special. A large portion of Buddhist monks practice some form of Wu Shu or another. Wu Shu is a generic term for martial arts. It's nothing big and if he doesn't even know the style he studied, well... Now if he were training at the Shaolin Temple/Monastery, where I've actually been, it would be something. Even then, I'd be suspicious because a lot of martial arts schools have set themselves up around the Shaolin temple and have no real affiliation with the temple. By the way, the real shaolin monastery, the surviving one anyway, is located in Henan province on Songshan mountain, midway between Zhengzhou and Luoyang. It's been turned into a tourist trap and the monks don't mind, their more worldly than you'd think. They are also using a large portion of the money they make to refurbish the old temple that got pretty much wrecked during the cultural revolution. They've also moved out of the old temple to a smaller one further up the mountain that is off limits to tourists. The Cabbit Master

...a cult is, in fact, brewing slowly.. anyone know how 'samurai' did overseas? a buddy of mine has a japanese anime poster for it on his wall...oh, and mr. mungia?(sorry if i've spelled that wrong) if you ever read this talkback, i know this is a horrifying subjective comment, but i earnestly think if samurai was released (or re-released??), or marketed on a wider scale, or even if you got the vhs and dvd's publicized a bit more, you would be shocked and amazed by the sheer size of the cult following it would evoke. and, on another note, i'm quite sure mr. falcon is aware of precisely what martial arts form he has been studying, even if mr. mungia is only aware of it's generic term.
Harry, it would only be hyperbole if you'd added ,"...knows what

I actually studied with the "Whoo-Hoo!" monks of south-central LA, and I'm thoroughly well aquainted with the sacred arts of "whatchinyoass-fu" Especially the ancient discipline of "wing-tau-jackyolexus" and of course the age old art of "hong-tau-szechwan-bustacapiny oass-tay" John Woo has me on retainer but I'm thinking of running for president. Now, there must be something in my crack-dealin', pimp-hustlin' past which I can use to draw attention to my self...D'ya think the people would elect a founder member of the Richard Simmons fan club or would they rather go with the record-breakingly stupid coke head ??? You're right, I'll drop out. SIONARA MO-FO'S
Six String Samurai: Best Action film of the 90's?

I remember when I got to see it in a packed house in my college cinema... what a magnificent piece of work. Funny, weird, violent, scary, and visually beautiful. I wholeheartedly agree that the movie should be re-released with more promotion. Here's the tagline: "A new standard in ass-kicking movies!" Peace.

I was slightly dispointed with SSS, largly due to the high expectations I had for it. But it is a entertaining film and it looks good and has some realy cool lines. I tried to contact Mungia some time ago but Falcon answered instead, feeling good and chirpy. I hope that Lance does something kick ass soon.

...this film? I heard about it for months and months on this site as the second coming of cinema, and then the talk disappeared, and I never saw the film. Did it ever get released? I never saw it (I live in New York) and I've never seen it on video. What's the story?

I have seen Six String Samurai on video, and it was played on Showtime a couple of times recently. What I'm wondering about is what happened to Into the West? Jeffrey Falcon and Lance Mungia said once that their next film would be called Into the West, and it would be produced by John Woo and Terence Chang.
Falcon...nice guy, but his last effort ranks as one of the worst

I met Falcon at Comic-con awhile back when he was promoting Six String. Nice guy. Really nice guy. Too bad his movie was wretched. I can't recall a movie that had so much potential and didn't deliver on any of it. I'll wait for his next one on DVD. He's not suckering me again.
In all Fairness to Jeff Falcon

When I made my earlier I post I was aiming more to clear up some of the myths about martial arts and monks in mainland China. It came off more as a personal attack against Jeff Falcon than I intended. i'm sure he's a great person and an excellent martial artist. I'm also sure that the people he's studying with know their arts. The point that I was trying to make was that in real life these monks are real people like you and me. They are human and as such are prone to the same failings we all have. During my time in China I traveled to many temples, Buddhist, Tibetan Buddhist, Daoist and even Muslim. Most places the monks were far from being the enlightened teachers that the media makes them out to be. In truth, most were stone cold hustlers trying to make a profit off of tourists (both foreign and Chinese) perceptions of them being the martial arts gods that they are made out to be in movies. A large portion of the monks that I met were hustlers saying thing in broken english like "You give me $300 American, I teach you Gung Fu for a week." While I'm sure that there are a few real deal's out there, I actually met a few, none of which were monks and wouldn't even talk to me because I was "lao wai," (Foreigner), most people that I met who stated that they would train me were nothing more than con-artist's out to make a quick buck. I'm sure that Jeff knows his stuff and after a quick e-mail from Lance Mungia that cleared up some misconceptions, I'm sure that Jeff is training with a pretty good group. The Cabbit Master
