Unfortunately, I was never able to develop much of an addiction to Conan and Andy. I just can't stay up that late and still be worth a damn in the morning. The times that I have seen them have been hilarious. Andy is a grossly underrated comic talent. I don't know what he's moving on to, but if it anything but a talk show (please, not ANOTHER one!), I'll make it a point to watch it when possible. The $64,000 question is, who will be filling the void left by Andy's ample ass? Is there already someone else lined up, or will Conan be going it alone? Heck, it was enough of a bummer for me when Max Weinberg left to tour with Bruce "Sellout" Springsteen, but if Conan doesn't have a foil for his sardonic wit, I don't see the show maintaining it's unique edge. Hell, it's still got to be better than Craig Kissass.

Richter is a damn quick wit. Back when the show started, Andy was a little heavier than he is now. I remember a couple times when a guest would come on, and they'd try a little fat joke at Andy's expense. Every time it seemed like Andy would think up the perfect sharp retort and send it back at them in a heartbeat. I would have loved to see him perform back in his improv days. -- By the way, Moriarty, this whole "I'm a crusty old evil genius" thing is really getting old. Being in your early thirties is no shame.

Andy's funniest moment...

...Was during a sketch when Conan convinced him that they were going to go to the new "NBC Steambath" together. Conan tells Andy to go in first, rips off his towel, and shoves him, naked, in the door...Right onto the set of the Today show. Andy plays it perfectly, just a little embarassed, but quickly sits down with a shocked Matt Lauer and asks where Katie is. Matt throws down a newspaper so Andy's bare ass won't touch the seat. Hilarious. Andy will be sorely missed. I guess "In the Year 2000" and the "Staring Contests" are a thing of the past.

"Andy" is moving on to be one of the great character actors of our generation - gawd bless 'im. FYI: Special Agent Richter appears with some regularity at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in the all-star longform improv show on Sundays ("A.S.S.S.C.A.T.") Andy either moderates the joyous affair or improvs with the UCB and special guests from SNL and 2nd City, and much merriment is had by all. Amy Pohler of the UCB plays "Andy's Little Sister" don'chya know? Perhaps you saw her beat up Andy and hump Conan's leg last Wednesday night? (Alas, "for the last time.") Thanks for the laughs, Andy. Live Web cast of Andy in an A.S.S.S.C.A.T., pranks and more on Comedy Central's site at http://comedycentral.com/ucb/. Andy vs. Harry? No contest...

Saying that "history" will be made on two different networks May 26th is inacurate. Only ONE network will be presenting an historic show. And that network will be NBC. Andy Richter's departure from "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" will be an emotional rollercoaster -- a bittersweet farewell. No matter what Conan does to fill the void, it will never be the same. I also enjoy "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" but, I'm sorry, on May 26th, I'll be watching AND taping Andy's last show. BTW, my favorite Andy moment was when Conan was in L.A., knocking on all the doors of the sexy actresses he'd interviewed, looking for some action. When he arrives at Gina Gershon's hotel suite, she appears in a bathrobe and awkwardly tries to deny Conan entrance to her room. Conan barges his way in, horndog that he is, and just as he's about to put the moves on Gina, the bathroom door opens and out comes Andy in his own bathrobe -- the deed already done. Thanks, Andy! :-)

My favorite Andy moments were when Conan tricked him to run naked into that other show and when he went around singing "The Boys Are Back In Town" with people and ended the night screaming "Thin Lizzy" in a drunken state from a balcony. For more historic talk show things, Richard Simmons is on Letterman tonight(May 12) for the first time in 2 years. Also, Kilborn is terrible.
Conan and Andy Kick Kilborn's Girly Ass
by Barron34
May 12th, 2000
11:43:14 AM
O'Brian self-effacing wit beats the hell out of the smug and unlikable Craig Kilborn any day (or night). Kilborn's entire shtick is that he is smart and superior (he's not: he's smug and inferior) and everyone else is a target for presumably withering sarcasm. The unfortunate thing is that he is neither sympathetic nor funny. Furthermore, the guy is obviously in love with himself. Conan and Andy are both smart AND humble. This allows them to poke fun at themselves and the world around them, and get away with it. I hope Conan is smart enough to run the show without replacing Andy for a while, because replacing him with someone right out of the gate would be too much of a shock for the fans. Give viewers time to adjust to the show without Andy, then introduce a new sidekick. Sadly, it's an end to an mini-era, I think. When Letterman left the timeslot, who could have replaced him? No one. But Conan and Andy showed up, and proved themselves to be worthy parts of the American Entertainment Landscape. I honestly think that it skipped a generation, and O'Brian is the natural successor to the smart and sly greta one, Johnny Carson. And Andy was his perfect foil, better than McMahon was even for Carson. It won't be the same show, but I hope that Conan survives and thrives, and I hope that Andy finds success outside the show. They have given us plenty of entertainment for seven years. Kudos to them. Barron

I agree that Andy will be greatly missed in world of late night. I have watched the some off and on through the years do to varying schedules, but I have always felt that Andy was as important to the show as Conan himself. The skits with Conan and Andy are REALLY the heart of the show, and usually provide the biggest laughs, so I can only hope that they find someone who has the amazing chemistry that Andy has with Conan. Kilborn, on the other is a complete ass. I enjoyed him on The Daily Show, where I guess he was kept somewhat in check, but now that he has his own show, he has shown himself to a be an even greater jackass than he was on TDS. Harry, you are indeed a brave soul to make an appearance on Kilborn's show, as I anticipate you being the but of many not so subtle mean spirited barbs, as has become the man's "trademark." Don't let that self-righteous prick get the better of you Harry.

I grew weary of this show after discovering the gimmick. Conan says something semi-witty. Andy says something immensely funnier. Conan repeats Andy's retort, as though it were his own. Andy sits back and lets Conan get the laughs. No reason to watch this show after May 26, folks. Godspeed, Andy Richter.

Whoever said it was right. Late night show magic did skip a generation. Conan and andy do remind me of The Great Carson and Ed. Does anyone know where Andy is going next? I have to say that Conan's show is the best in town and I am including, Leno, Letterman and the guy with the hair. I personaly think that Greg or Craig wants to be the next Dennis Miller. Miller's sarcasm is biting and where he comes up with all of that stuff is beyond me. Any don't go, you and Conan are like the glimmer twins ( Jagger and Richards ) together they rock, apart they stink. Man....first Kubrick bites the big and then Andy leaves. Makes you not want to watch T.V. ever. So long Andy.

Ok, there's not use to the whining, begging and pleading for Andy to stay. There's only hope that in his next career moves he'll be as fresh and funny as he is when he's with Conan. Ahhh...will the show be the same without Andy? I doubt it. I'll still watch and still enjoy, but it will be the same as being at a party after the funny drunk guy gets arrested or passes out. I don't have a fav Andy moment, but I do have a favorite overall episode and that has to be the one where Dave Foley came on and started talking about how he was looking forward to the next season of "News Radio" (after it was cancelled) and faked shock at hearing it was no longer on the air. Those three guys just totally clicked and I feel it was a perfect night of comedy/hanging out with the guys. We love you Andy!!! Don't be a stranger to the sidekick seat! (And Kilbourne...however it's spelled...is a pompous ass who can't hold a comedic candle to Conan and Andy. Prepare yourself, Harry!)

AceBadnage...O.K....anyway Conan is awesome as a Late Night Host...Kilborn was alright on the Daily Show...but now when I see/watch him it's like sitting through a 'root canal'. I don't know what happened..oh well. But, Conan was responsible for some funny-ass Simpsons episodes and his show continues to pleases me. Dave Chepelle as a new side-kick...that'd be awesome but, I just don't see it happening. I wish i still had Comedy Central to see Special Agent Ritcher on UCB...the girl who played Andy's sister occassionally on Conan is funny as all hell. Well I guess I just have to be nostalgic from here on out. Take care Andy...you're one funny S.O.B.

Harry, Kilborn is going to take the piss out of you, but don't be afraid to tell him to fuck off. You'd be the man then. I'm afraid Conan is going to suck after Special Agent Richter's departure. Conan's self-deprecation schtick is funny, but Andy was always the one to really make me laugh. They better have him lose the Staring contest on the last show, just for a swerve. Also, UCB is the funniest thing since Kids in the Hall.

Any body else think that any of the Kids in the hall would make great sidekicks. Conan's always talking about how he loves those guys, and they're constantly making guest appearances. It would so kick ass if Scott Thompson or Bruce McCullough. Hell, McCullough looks just like Andy, minus a few pounds. Moriarty - This is not your best work. Ive seen things from you that leave me breathless. This is a little side note in this writing career of yours. But I was struck by the simple eloquence in your words. With only a few sentences I was right back in time when the first Conan show aired. But more than that, its the way your words send floods of images and emotions. All the time, even when you're long winded as so many of your readers love to point out. And what is better than being flooded with images and emotions? Even if they arent always pleasant, youre still feeling it... so much. And that is what is important, isnt it? To feel so much. It is to me anyway. I just wanted to tell you that when I read what you write, Im always reminded and hopeful that if I can acheive even a tenth of what you can with my words that you do with yours, then I might be just a little successful one day with my hidden away aspirations. You move me. I love that about you. I think maybe now it's time I was shown 'Beautiful', dont you?

I love conan and andy as much as anybody but Craig is also pretty damn funny in his own right. The pompus act isn't really him, it is part of his act, just as part of andy's act was being the butt of all of conan's jokes. Craig's wit and complete apathy of everyone has only led to plenty of great jokes so don't trash the guy cuz he kisses up to hot chicks on the show. Most guys would do the same thing if only to keep hope of "scoring" after the show.

Houston continues to get screwed
by Brundledan
May 12th, 2000
06:21:35 PM
I'm going to take this opportunity to gripe about something. I and my fellow Houstonian Talkbackers won't be getting to see Andy's final appearance, not unless we stay up until all hours of the morning. Not long after Conan premiered in 1993, his numbers were tanking. As we all know, he didn't get off on the greatest foot with "Late Night", thus more than a few major NBC affiliate stations, including Houston's KPRC, chose to push him back into the wee hours of the morning, leaving the 11:30 (Central) slot open for a more popular show, like "Hercules". As Conan got steady on his feet and his numbers started to climb, most of these stations came around and put him back in the normal time slot - most of them. KPRC, however, NEVER PUT THE SHOW BACK. They've got an hour of "Judge Judy" in that slot (kind of an insult), while Conan continues to languish at 2:30 in the morning. Ridiculous, especially in a major market like Houston. Oh, well. I don't usually bother to tape the show, but I will on the 26th. We'll miss ya, Andy.

He has experience after interviewing the President last month. He has been spotted watching "The King of Comedy", carefully studying Jerry Lewis' mannerisms and moves. In all seriousness, it sucks greatly that Andy is leaving, and I hope he does well in his movie/television career. The comments I've read have been right on, I'm glad others noticed his incredibly quick wit and comebacks (usually on dumb guests who would turn to him and ask "so what do you do, anyway?"). He'll be a tough man to replace.

Conan might write a better Simpsons script, but Kilborn hosts a better show. Even after all these years Conan seems to still have that 'should never have been put in front of a camera' feel. Wow, I've never read a more positive talkback. I used to hate Conan and Andy, Andy especially, and refused to watch this horrible, sophomoric show. Then late one night a few years ago, I flipped to NBC out of boredom, and began laughing at the "sophomoric" antics on Late Night. I couldn't believe how much better the show had gotten, how funny the low-brow humour was, and how witty O'Brien and Richter really were. Is Andy trying to branch into movies or something (thought I heard him mention that)? Well, I wish him luck, cuz he's gonna need it. What about the new sidekick? I hope it's not Kevin Nealon, but then he'd make a change from the current "fat guy" template.

Try as I might I've never, EVER been able to stomach a full show of Kilborns.. The guy's so far from funny it hurts.. No matter how much he tries to look & act like conan & be funny like conan, he sucks. He's just not funny. Some people are born with it, and he's definately not one of them. I'd rather watch that shit-ass "Later" show on NBC than sit through 30 miserable minutes of Craig Cockface Kilborn. To make a long story short.. Too bad Andy's leaving.. Conan/Andy were a kick ass combo... Maybe they can get Norm McDonald to take his place.. Although Conan's already said he's not gonna get a replacement..

Why do people jump on that band wagon that Conan rocks and Kilby is an ass? I think both of their shows are hilarious and I cant decide which to watch. Didnt anybody see the "Bring Your Stuff Guy?" How about Ewok Guy? Yambo? Game-O-matic? Chris Isaak theme song? 2 Live Crew "Me So Horny?" I love Kilbourn's show. I also love Conan's show, and it does suck that Andy is leaving, but I would love to see Andy featured in his own gig. Not Cabin Boy 2 though. They just gotta show more of masturbating bear. Harry, dont listen to them. I look forward to seeing ya with Kilby ( and hopefully on Yambo). Cant wait to August when he should surely have Vince Vaughn on for The Cell. I think he's just fed up with being second banana all these years. But I've never seen him in any other show outside Conan either. As for "Craiggers", I think his show is the funniest on late night. His material is way funnier than Conan's plus the In The News segment is hilarious and to his regular characters listed previously add the "fake chest pains" lady and the "I think it's funny" girl. Sure Craig's persona is the playboy but so what he's hilarious - he pokes a lot of fun at himself too. But being mean to the guests? I've never seen this and he's a way better interviewer than Conan who has to have his little white cards with the questions written on them on his desk and has a hard time making them sound spontaneous. Not that I don't watch Conan sometimes even though the first few years were painful to watch. The only one I avoid totally is Leno, he makes me wince at the bad jokes and his laughing at them.
