Given that this guy was the only good thing about 10 things, I'm in. True, he seems a bit burly, but what the hell. They've got to try to make the ladies swoon. Side note- I really love people who bitch and moan about how terrible something's going to be before they've even seen it. I really do. Almost as much as I love people who go on about being first.

When Mel puts his "heart" into something, good stuff happens. I've heard he really, really digs Ledger's acting chops, which to me says a lot about him. I haven't seen him in anything, but Patriot looks to be a fantastic movie. However, I really think that Sony's missing a big boat with Nicholas Brendan. His Xander is a near-perfect Peter Parker already. Cinescape did a poll and a good majority agreed that Brendan should be the Webbed One.

"Deconstructing Spidey" coming soon
by Osborn
Apr 19th, 2000
12:24:23 PM
Let's all ask a simple one, Is Ledger the spitting image of a Puny Peter Parker (no thick neck, no muscles, the true hero that was designed for the real life Parkers and geeks- this is what made him revolutionary from the muscled, already super looking alter egos of the Forties and Fifties), or is this Ledger more the image of the Flash Thompson type who played football and picked on "puny four- eyed Parker?" I suspect it will be common knowledge at Sony that Ledger is Peter Parker when the change is made to make Parker an athlete with a surfboard under his arm instead of books. With babes fawning over his blue eyes. Flash Parker anyone? Let's also remember that it is the character of Peter Parker that is being cast, NOT Spider-man. Spider-man wears a mask over his face and is skinny. He could be played by any Ray Park type stunt man. Cameron wasn't even going to use a person at all, but CG instead. Let's further remember the Mamet script isn't even done yet. Usually choices are made when the script is able to be read at least once by a single human being. Next we shall hear Arnold S. has been signed to play Bruce Banner. Anyone out there remember these are MARVEL characters, when Marvel was king? When people like Felini adored them? Before Marvel, comics were often called "Funny books" by a wartime generation that had no idea "The Amazing Spider-man" had little humor in it. It had a psychotic father named Norman Osborn, who thought he could in the end insure his son's love by killing his son's best friend, Parker, whom he blamed for everything wrong in his life, and why he'd lost touch with his kid Harry. Again, he'd kill Parker, THEN Harry would love him. Cross your fingers and hope that Neeson at least is a more true rumor (as Osborn), and maybe we shall see Liam towering with rage over a puny, geeky looking guy named Peter, who's Spider-sense starts tingling for some reason.
Ok.

Yet another rumor has wandered its way into AICN. The only good thing about this is that I can write my casting suggestions and rants on daily basis. My idiot friend and I watched the shitpile that was "10 Things I Hate About You" about a year ago and he thought Ledger would make a good young Wolverine. Then I hit my friend over the head with a hammer and told him that he was a mouth-breathing moron. At best, Ledger could be Flash Thompson. He's a pretty big guy and tough looking. He's in what looks to be a hit film this summer and people are adding him to the list of all the young "talent" in line for the Anikin and Spidey roles. Bullshit, I say! Miscast Osborne or Aunt May, but get Parker right. Go for Was Bently or Jamie Kennedy or Jason London. Go for someone who resembles the character in the comics and can act, not some hunk on the cover of Seventeen magazine this month.

I saw American Psycho last night and though it was a bit over the top at the end, I thought it was entertaining and an interesting look at the enigma that was the eighties. Anyway, Willem Dafoe was in the movie and as I watched him on the screen, I could only think of one thing: Green Goblin. This could be the opportunity Dafoe missed by having Nicholson play the Joker in the first Batman. Dafoe as Norman Osborne in the first and as the Goblin in the sequel. Too cool. He's getting up in age and could pass as the older, power-hungry Osbourne. Christ, he wouldn't even have to wear a mask. His alien-like features and 5,000 teeth is the exact replica of the Goblin mask. All of the fans who lobbied for Dafoe as the Joker would get what they wished for if Sam would cast him. Holy shitballs! Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin! Too, too cool!

Here it goes again. Jamie Kennedy as Peter Parker. Mena Suvari as Gwen Satcy (dies in sequel, no Mary Jane till later movies). Mechanical web-shooters (ne organic spinnerettes). R.Lee Ermey as JJ Jameson (not Bruce Campbell, you dolts!). Bruce Campbell cameo as Spidey's wrestling promoter who gives him his name and costume. Now LISTEN RAIMI!!! IMPORTANT!!! Jeffrey "Re-Animator" Combs as Doctor Octopus and newly added to the list Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborne (donning the Green Goblin costume in the sequel). Alright Raimi, movie's casted, now get out there and make it!! What are ya waitin' for!?! Do it! That is all.

Heath Ledger is in final talks to take over the lead in the WWI drama, Four Feathers (as reported in Variety). Not surprisingly, Jude Law recently ducked out of this role...hmmmmm. Plus, Columbia needs an actor who is willing to sign a 3-picture contract. It is highly unlikely that Law, Ledger or Bentley will be willing to do this -- they are too sought after right now to bind themselves like that. Granted, this is Spiderman, but no superhero franchise has shown strength through movie #3 (most were weak by the first sequence in movie #1). I imagine that this is the reason the role has yet to be cast. Expect the role to be filled with an actor who is young enough to play Spiderman for at least 6 years more and not yet in quite high demand. I have yet to hear the name of an actor who fits this description in any of the rumour reports, but I have one in mind and I know his name will begin popping up everywhere. Some of you may have an inkling as to who I mean :)

We showed you our picks, why don't you show us yours? If you're so sure about your guy playing Spidey, don't wait until after he is cast to say I told you so. Anyway, according to your criteria, Jamie Kennedy is a young actor who is not a big star. He has a group of fans that recognize him from the Scream movies and he seems to have some sort of acting talent. He's no Wes Bently or Jude Law, but he is one of those actors who is a good role away from being a star. Plus he doesn't have the baggage that someone like Law, Bently, or Tobey McGuire has. I think Sam should make the actors sign some type of contract for more than one movie so we don't have to go through another Batman-rotating-cowl fiasco.

I don't believe anything Harry says anymore. This guy really has to work on his credibility, because people leave his site the second they read that one of Harry's reliable sources told him who is going to play Spider-Man. Jude Law-- Too busy with A.I. Chris Klein-- Happened to be on The Gift set because he's dating Katie Holmes. Heath Ledger-- too busy shooting A Knight's Tale and Four Feathers. Chris O'Donnell-- Too old to play a seventeen year old Peter Parker. Oh wait..you of course didn't know this..yes Peter will be seventeen in the first movie and no David Mamet has nothing to do with the project and yes that screenplay you read and reviewed was fake. Heath Ledger certainly isn't wrong for the part. Maybe not everyone's first choice, but he'll suffice. This indicates that maybe the story IS in fact set during Petey's high school years. Good, that's the way it should be. Now if we could only get a plot outline to rip apart...

You're quick to call bullshit, but short on any hard evidence yourself. And, I love Stan Lee, but he's not Sam Raimi; so, when it comes to the SPIDERMAN *movie* (I'm emphasizing that for you, 'cause I realize you're a little slow on the uptake,) who cares what he thinks? Why don't you get your "high-level" Sony exec on the phone; that is, if they aren't too busy emptying Amy Pascal's garbage.

05:33:41 PM
Why the hell did you bring up Stan Lee? I just mentioned his chatsession when talking about my confessionals. I didn't say Stan Lee has power over the project. I know he doesn't, because Sony basically gave him the co-executive producer credit only out of respect; he's too busy with Stan Lee Media. It's interesting to know what Stan thinks not because he has power, but because Spider-Man is his character. And he too feels that Spidey should be played by an unknown. Now that doesn't mean Sony will hire an unknown. I never said that. Read my message better, before drawing a conlusion. And I'm quick to call something bullshit? I said the same about Jude and that turned out to be false, I said the same about Klein and that turned out to be false and now I'm saying it again. And as it turns out; Heath is making two movies, one of which will start production same time as Spider-Man; Four Feathers. And about your high source remark; I just have a source who keeps me up-to-date so once in awhile. I'm not going to get scoops and even if I would; I wouldn't tell them. That's how I know these reports are false. The reason why I have an insider is because I don't tell the info she gives me to anyone. If I were to spill the info to someone like Harry, the insider wouldn't trust me and she won't give me the lowdown anymore. Now I don't know who will play Peter, for the simple reason that there has been no official casting yet, just some interviews. That's it. Read my confessionals. And why should I give hard evidence? I'm not saying that someone will get the role, I can just spot a bullshit story, when I see one. Boat Drinks! Jimmy the Saint

Don't ya love when you see an actor in an indie movie, and recognize he's talented and could potentially strike gold at the box office and be famous as hell? It looks like Heath Ledger is headed in this direction. Patriot is gonna make him a heartthob, and if this is true, Spiderman will make him a badass. I picked up "Two Hands" at Blockbuster, figured it wouldn't be anything special. It was...alright, but felt like a 2 hour long MTV special. Heath was one of the most redeeming factors of an already good movie, one of the best compliments an actor could get. Between Heath, Jude, and Wes... well, at least I know the role of Parker is gonna be in good hands/

Don't we all figure that the first Spidey movie has to be the origin story? Petey's cavalier attitude costing the life of his Uncle Ben. " With great power comes great responsibility." Now I don't care who plays him as long as he's young enough to pass for high school and he's enough of an unknown to grow into the part. Now Bruce Campbell is too damn old; ditto Jude Law. All of our fanboy casting only helps push the studios to place established actors into roles we know they will eventually reject. Who heard of Chris Reeve before Superman? That was an example of great casting. Maybe we should cut the powers that be a little slack and they might regain the confidence to cast a great unknown in the role of our favorite web-slinger.

Why doesn't Sony cast Ron Jeremy as peter parker. hell he has "charisma"..he's been in more movies than Messrs. ledger, law, and bale...some of that abundant body hair is sure to poke through the costume but a little CG magic from Lucas' people should fix that. Heath Ledger's character in 10 things WAS meant to speak with an Australian accent. We are told that he lived in Australia for about 10 years before moving to the States and so the fact that his accent might have sometimes sounded American as well is also understandable. btw, how come everyone's been talking about him as a teeny-bopper because of that movie. Hasn't the far superior Two Hands come out over there yet?

Sure he's a competent actor but I worked with the guy on Two Hands and he's also a bona fide asshole, and as a big Spiderman fan myself in my mind he doesn't deserve the role, let alone fit it all that well. He's the type of guy that utterly and completely believes everything his agent tells him (ie. he's pretty easily led by the 'powers' around him, and as such it's more their fault that he's such a dickhead than it is his), in his mind he's already a 'star', God forbid he actually becomes one, and if that has to happen, please let it not be through this film which has the possibility to actually be a cool flick now that Raimi is on board.

Well, if it *HAS* to be Jude Law, then so be it, but here are my picks for the cast: J.J. Jameson - John Lithgow Mary Jane - Dina Meyer (the balls-y lady from Starship Troopers) Aunt May - Debbie Reynolds (Carrie Fisher's mom) Green Goblin - Robin Williams or Kevin Spacey (Spacey would also make an awesome Lex Luthor for Superman)

Peter Parker should be Jude Law, Chris Klien, etc. However, when good old Spidey dons his mask he should be played by Jason Scott Lee - or a stuntman. Who cares who's under the caul as long as he can swing on them webs.
Matt Perry should be Peter Parker

What actor who's about the right age and physical type plays a better good-natured wise-ass (Spider-Man's trademark)than "Friends" star Matt Perry? He should be PP/Spidey.

Why not go back to his roots and have Parker be a brainy be-spectacled science geek loser somewhere around 15? Parker was puny. The fun was seeing this skinny twerp pick up a full-grown wrestler and carry him up a pole. He was the loner everybody picked on in High School--Corey Haim in Lucas, a younger Keith Gordan. Somebody suggested (sarcastically) Haley Joel Osment, who would not be such a terrible idea since by the time the movie was shooting he's be 14 or so--only problem is, he looks too much like Jughead. All these suggestions--Jude Law, etc.--these guys are all 25-40 years old. I wanna see the full Spidey origin treatment--I want to see him chuck his glasses and get full of hubris and pink-cloud his way into letting his uncle get wasted. Spider-Man is, or was at least, a high school drama.
