If it has Jeremy Irons, I'll see it
by Stephen Dedalus

In the running for best working actor, up there with DeNiro and Hopkins. BTW, has anyone seen the 1982 film MOONLIGHTING? Not the Bruce Willis TV series, but the film directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, with Irons as a Polish worker who journeys to London during the enactment of Martial Law. It's his best performance, one of the very best given by a lead male actor in cinema history.

...This is gonna be good...here it comes...the tidal wave of people bashing this movie in the wake of lord of the rings........the beautiful thing is, the guy that made this movie spent a decade getting this movie made, the guy was passionate about it. is it possible an average budget could make a special effects filled movie passable? is it possible a good script and good acting and good story and passion for the project could make the dungeons and dragons movie...GOOD? is it possible elves will finally not be portrayed as wimpy tremendous eared little fairies but strong and majestic and powerful like in the actual d and d game and novels? (ala drizzt) tune in and find out what aicn'ers have to say.....in all seriousness, i like what ive heard and seen so far, this project has hope man...
As long as it's a better flick than WILLOW.....

then I'll be pleased. Of course, if it bears any resemblance to LEGEND, DRAGONHEART, or BEASTMASTER you might as well just flush it. My hopes are that they'll give us a darker, more realistic fantasy like DRAGONSLAYER, which was probably the best the genre ever had. Of course, we're still waiting for Peter Jackson to deliver the ultimate LORD OF THE RINGS, which will shatter the firmament with it's unstoppable brilliance.... Here's hoping!

...and I don't give a shit! You'll hear no goating about being first from me! Anyway, I've never played the D&D game, but I loved the old cartoon from the 80's, and I am a HUGE fan of films with midieval themes, and from what I've read and seen so far, this will be a good movie! And to Rip Reaver, to all those who are going to bitch and moan like they do every day about the X-Men movie, well, we've got to words for them...FUCK OFF! (although I want to see LOTR as well). More posts as the stupidity ensues!

...I definitely enjoy the fantasy genre, even some of the commercialized D&D-type stuff. This could be a fun movie, something on the order of SINBAD or JASON & THE ARGONAUTS in my mind. I for one see no reason why a fun fantasy movie like D&D can't peacefully co-exist with a more serious work like LORD OF THE RINGS. Bregalad, not sure if I agree that D&D should adopt a tone along the lines of DRAGONSLAYER, but you're right about that flick being the best of its genre. God, that dragon was scary, the medieval fantasy equivalent of a nuke.

Can't say I agree there. Something tells me this will rank up there with the D&D cartoon of the 1980's: a watered-down version of what could have been.

Of course I do. And that is the problem. After all of the AD&D games I've played, all of them are different and special in their own way. But the D&D movie sounds bad. It's like playing the game with premade characters in a premade plot that you don't really care or know much about. That's where it'll lose its appeal. Imagine, all this AD&D praise from a Vampire player...huh.--Saulot--

I loved that Saturday morning show... I wonder if this will have anything to do with that story line. I wish I could find a copy of the animated series.

It is basically a two hour public service announcement about the hazzards that can come from playing a game such as Dungeons and Dragons. It's some of the best work Hanks has ever done.

I doubt that. But you can't even say that it looks like its gonna be better than LOTR... what are you basing that assumption on? We don't know that much about the movies yet... no screen shots as far as I know. LOTR has the better cast if you ask me... and I DON'T think that much of Irons myself. Oh well. I'll go see both movies anyway. To the poster who first brought up the D&D cartoon... THANK YOU! For two or three years now, I've wondered what that show from my youth was and I could never really remember. Now I do! Thanks! I only wish that I could get copies of that series along with Voltron. I already have transformers though, that should hold me over for awhile.

I was wondering if anyone here plays Dungeons & Dragons like me? Well if so I have been experiencing a problem that I hope one of you can solve for me. It seems that when I use my Elven Sword (with 3 talisman magic) on the Beastress that I fire it's mana too quickly. This is often very embarrassing because after the early release I never quite finish her off properly. I heard that perhaps before I attack the Beastress that I should release some of my mana from my sword. They say this way the mana will require time to build up and not be released so quickly. Is this a good idea? Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Let's see hea', there was the tall blonde guy with the energy bows and arrows, the balck girl with the magic green staff, the coward with the shield (very fucking annoying!) the little brat in the barbarian suit and big club, and of course the hot red head with the inviso-cape. If I remember correctly this fine piece was the barbarian boy's big sister. I also vaguely recall the little dwarf guy (what the fuck was this little dude's name!), the big eveil demon guy (can't remember his name either!) and my most favoritist character of all, that giant # headed dragon! That thing kicked ass! While I enjoyed the cartoon (which I too would raize many a village to find again) I'm glad they are not basing the movie on the series, that would just water it down. One more thing, what the fuck DO you people have against Willow? I liked it, some of Lucas' best work next to Star Wars. "Don't I know you? I stole the baby from you, dikini, while you were taking a pee-pee!"

D&D cartoon celebrity cast voices
by Lazarus Long

If anyone still cares, I think Eric the Cavalier was voiced by Donny Most of Happy Days (Ralph Malph) fame, and Willie Ames was the Ranger. I thought the show was fun, and it's hard to "faithfully" adapt a game where most of the action is improvised. There's really no point in calling it Dungeons and Dragons anyway unless theya re going to adapt the story from one of the modules. All that stuff with hit points, dexterity, etc. won't have any role in the movie. I guess it's just to attract an audience but that same tactic may wind up turning many away.

The irritating little dwarf was Dungeonmaster and the five headed dragon was Tiamat. I think the villain's name was Venger, and he looked really stupid because he had one horn sticking out of his helmet. I guess the other horn was broken off. Death to Bobby the Barbarian! I hated that kid.
