OK, in the land down under, we don't get this film for another month or so, but it seems lately that people have begun to forget that the Scream trilogy were intended as a semi send-up of horror movies! Nothing against Moriarty's opinion, butI thought both the first films were fantastic, and it helped me to scare the living shit out of my girlfriend for a few chuckles. Watch it, enjoy it, and if you don't, at least post an intelligent critique of the film, don't just get on here and say "This film will be bollocks" 'cause no-one is going to listen.

You're dead right. The first Scream movie is an overrated piece of shit. I didn't even bother to see the second one, which leaves little chance of me ever seeing this one. If only Scream hadn't been such a big hit we might have been spared I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, and Urban Legend. Despite some cruel fuck giving away the ending for S3 in The Emperor's New Groove talkback a couple of days ago, I would rather believe the film could end these possible ways... 1) After the film has been shot of the last scene, a hidden video cam follows Neve to her trailer where Drew Barrymore is hiding. Drew knifes Neve, sticks a daisy in her hair and makes out with Sarah Gilbert. Fade to black. 2) Cotton is the only one that survives and a big party is thrown for him celebrity roast- style. Robin Williams comes out as Jakob the Friar and proceeds to ridicule him in a Polish accent. 3) Michael Palin and John Cleese come walking in the middle of a scene with Parker Posey, tell her it's silly and improvise a mock trial that sentences her to forever make indie films no one ever hears of. 4) After the film has been shot of the last scene, a hidden video cam follows Neve to her trailer where she meets fellow Canadian Matthew Perry for a brandy and a good fisting, however Drew Barrymore is hiding in there. Drew knifes Matthew (to the "Friends" theme hummed by the nearby Cox), sticks a daisy in his hair and makes out with Neve. Fade to black. Or, ah... 5) Neve makes out with a champagne-drenched Denise Richards while Matt Dillon knifes Cameron Diaz much to the surprise of Marlon Wayans and David Arquette in "There's Something Wild About The Way Mary Screams, I Know Cuz I Called 1-800-CALL-ATT Last Summer?"... I think I hurt something. Fat Baldwin way out.

by the way since I had a normal psychotic free week, since i had to work thru some things, i had to regain my insanity back, i went to go see that movie event of gen x, episode 001 FOR THE 12th TIME: wed feb 02, at my local $1.00 theature. it was that last week they showed at a theatre in our florida area. i had buttered popcorn, a xlarge coke, and snocaps. i also cleaned out pipes, because after seeing natalie portman's baby girl azz, i was about walk out of the theatre with a loaded weapon, so i decided to do our upper middle class neighborhood a favor. god bless chris elliot, why wasnt he in episode001, till next time, GET PSYCHOTIC!

I actually think that darthpsychotic's idea isn't a bad one. In a huge talkback, if someone refers to a specific person's post, it's easier to find the reference on the article page if the handle is in the subject line. Of course, my posts so rarely receive their due appreciation (said in a self-deprecating sarcastic tone) that I do not plan on enacting this practice for myself.

A lame start to a movie...then it picks up a little...then it bombs with an ending worse than Scream 2...when you find out who the killer is, all your hopes are dashed for this being a good movie. Great way to end the series...ya right! I may go see this just to turn around and watch the audience's disappointing expressions when they find out who the killer really is. Have no faith in Miramax! You can see Weinstein all over this one...it's HIS ending(the biggest spoiler yet)! (puking in a sink)

Moriarity was right and wrong in his review. There is a LOT of comedy in it, some great cameos, and good scare moments. It is a bit different from the other two, but ONLY a bit (obviously, it's from a different writer). Also, he is right in that it is very much a typical horror movie. Some of the murders were oh-so-predictable. The music, lighting, etc. You know how it is. It's actually pretty difficult to compare this one to the last two. It was, however, fun to watch and had some good moments in it. Well worth seeing, so everyone stop bitching and just pay your money to go see it. Complain later.

hEY, JUST SAW sCREAM 3 and it's pretty damn good. I'd have to say that as a whole this film was not as good as the first two. It is extremly entertaining, and very very funny, however. I wouldnt dream of spoiling the film for anyone but I WILL say that the ending is completly satisfying and ties up the series nice and neat and actually answers some questions. The music in it kind of sucked (both the score and the soundtrack) and the only good song in the film was Nick Cave's Red RIght Hand which was also in the first two Screams. I hope to God Disney Doesn't get greedy and try to do a Scream 4 because this film does tie it up into a neat little package and I'd hate to see a nearly perfect little Trilogy ruined. After it's all been said and done now I can say that the best of the three is probobly Scream 2. Wes did a fine job on all three but his direction on 2 was incredible. The Scene where Sid was on stage as Cassandra and saw Ghostface everywhere was beautifly shot and it had the best ending of the three films. It was a very Tarentino-esque ending With obvious jabs at Friday the 13th (Mrs. Voorhees/Mrs. Loomis). Pure genius. Well I sure will miss the Scream series. It's been fun. Rush out and see Scream 3. You WONT be disappointed

Yup, caught a screening last night. An honest (brief) review: A good ending to the trilogy. A couple of genuine surprises. A couple of truly inspired cameos. Parker Posey steals the show. David Arquette steals the show. The plot gets a little convoluted at times, and feels a bit like Scooby Doo towards the end. No "Jump out of your seat" scares. You'll get exactly what you want. Word to ya mutha.

Don't worry, you fucks. Who ever posted the identity of the killers the other day was wrong. This movie was kinda fun, but not in any way suprising or scary. The best parts were when there was no killing going on. Some pretty funny cameos, too. But why is there barly any gore in these types of movies? God damned Columbine....

Let me just say that the first Scream was great and the second one was terrible. Now why was the first one so good???? Many reasons, but the main reason is Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard. Both were great and Lillard especially brought the house down. Consequently, the second Scream was awful----slapdash, looked like they shot it over a weekend it was so lame. And the killers? MICKEY?!?!? OOOOOOOOH. That was the worst. Only to be topped by Laurie Metcalf who is embarrassingly bad. And this all brings us to Scream 3, which is better than the second but still shit. And why? The killers of course. It is a shame the killers were so good in the first for no others could live up to them. I mean c'mon********SPOILERS***th e fucking dude from Felicity??? That fag? Not only is his character terribly written and boring, but he is such a queer himself. I have a feeling alternate endings were shot where it was Sidney's sister (the girl who won the part in Stab 3) instead of her dorky brother. I will admit though that the movie had its moments but like Moriarty says, the movie does nothing to really grab you or surprise you. None of the three principals from the films is killed or anything, it was awful. At least kill Gale or Dewey for crying out loud. DO SOMETHING INSTEAD OF KILLING OFF ALL THE NEW CHARACTERS!!!! I was very disappointed by this movie. And it pisses me off because I saw so much potential there as I watched the movie. I could forgive all the characters constantly splitting up in the house if the killer was cool. I could forgive Cotton driving like a cliched guy in panic and not getting pulled over by cops if the killer was cool. I could forget that Neve Campbell makes what is essentially a cameo--but only if the killer was cool. Fuck Felicity and fuck the goddamn RA. Roman my fucking ass!!!

After reading the critique of the new Scream film, I felt I had to counter. I give credit to the filmmakers for taking Scream 3 into this daring direction. I would have been disappointed if they had just decided to make it a normal 3 series slasher movie, but what was made is completely different. You have a completion to the film, you have an eneding that does it justice. When Sidney walks onto the sound satge, I felt chills myself, as for the lackluster ending, I agree it could have been punchier but as the time moves on you have to move away from the certain things that made something a staple. You have to reinvent a film to give it a proper burial. I loved the film and I know other fans like myslef will too.

The first one was not that inventive. Oooooo. Randy said the rules of a scary movie! How creative! That was fucking it?! And the second!? WHAT THE FUCK WAS UP WITH THE KILLERS!? Make an ending surprising, not out of the blue and what the fuck? The third one has a very Scream 2-esque ending. I mean the director? Why? I refuse to see it until it premiers on HBO. It's such bullshit. Like I need to see pompous ass people get stabbed and have a crappy ending for $15 (gots to have the snax). Anyways, don't bother seeing it guys.

I just saw Scream 3 and really enjoyed it. True, the ending didn't have the kick that the first movie had, but it still packed a better punch than the second. If people think the ending to this film is lame, it was only because 99% of them won't guess it. Actually, the plot has many more twists than either of the first two films (at least until the revelation of the killer(s) at the end) and the whole setup is very clever. I laughed way more consistently through this film than I did the other two. Ehren Kruger has done a very good job of keeping the spirit of Kevin Williamsons trademarke 'rules of horror' digressions. Smart jabs like, "It was probably some psycho-geek who was pissed that they killed Randy in Stab 2," definetely kept me giggling. Parker Posey is at her comedic best, stealing every scene she is in. And Jamie Kennedies cameo is hilarious. Overall, this was a satisfying conclusion to the series and I'm happy to bid Sydney, Gail, & Dewey a fond farewell. When it comes down to it, a movie series depends on how you feel about the characters involved and I liked these folks. Also, Neve Campbell did a terrific job here. At the beginning of the film we see that Sydney has gone completely underground, totally paranoid that another psycho is going to come after her. These films are basically satires of how stupid horror films are. Every time one of the 'rules of horror' transgressions comes about the films are shamelessly poking fun at themselves, holding up a flag that says, "We know how absurd this scenario is." In spite of this, Neve Campbell comes off as very believable in way that is, at times, even kind of sad.

Scream 3 had a number of significant flaws, the first of which is that it mostly seemed to forget that Scream movies are supposed to be kind of clever spoofs on the Slasher genre. *Second, without Kevin williamson writing, I thought there was a great lack in humor throughout this movie compared to the prior two. The cleverness of the first two riffed on the fact that the characters knew they were in someone's real-life attempt to re-create a slasher flick, with all it's cornball conceits. There really wasn't much effective use of that in this one, despite the fact that the idea of the movie-within-a-movie concept (Stab 3) could be an effective trope for that kind of stuff. A third fundamental flaw is that our heroine, Sidney, is outside of the action for more than the first half of the movie. This kills suspense. She isn't really threatened until later in the film, and this sort of thing is what they teach to avoid in beginning screenwriter's classes: put your protaganist in jeopardy. I think Neve Campbell has always done a pretty good job of making us want to see Sidney survive in these flicks, and it is just stupid to keep her isolated from the action.These flaws add up to, what for me, was a deadening lack of interest in the early part of the flick. The beginning seemed too static, lacked comedy contrasted with gore and horror, involving characters we care about instead of some walk-on second-stringer whose job it is obviously to end up dead.* That said, there are good things about the flick. I think that when the script brings Sidney to the fore of the action later on, things immediately pick up, and you have real suspense. Neve Campbell convinces me with her character, who is both afraid and brave. I think she has potential for both dramatic roles, and maybe even as an action heroine*The dynamic between Dewey and Gale Whethers still works, but needed more action in the beginning, and more clever dialogue in the non-action scenes. The two of them are a little bit two Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys for me in the beginning, but they have chemistry.A major highlight is Parker Posey as an actress portraying Gale Whethers in Stab 3. A good performance with good comic effect, especially when intereacting with the 'real' Gale Whethers. If the rest of the movie played like her scenes, it would have been very good.Jamie Kennedy does a good cameo. Again, I would have preferred Williamson doing the writing, because he is much wittier than the scribe they got for this movie.*All in all, if you liked the earlier movies, you will like this one. I thought the final act was fairly strong compared to a weaker first half, despite the obvious stupidity of characters splitting up when stalked. The 'wrap-up' of the movie was, when compared with the ending of Scream 2, satisfactory. The movie was diverting for an afternoon. Anyway, that's my two-cents (and three quarters).

After my brother-in-law just made me sit through the first two to get me "acquainted" with the series so I could immediately follow him and his friends to the theatre to view the third entry, I forcefully declined. I got so pissed off during both films that the thought of actually going to a theatre and paying $13.00 for both my wife and I to see the final entry made me want to wretch. Even without my wife it would not be worth it. By the end of the second I was so hacked, all I kept doing was saying, "I do not even care what is going on anymore because you just cannot invest anything in the characters. Who cares?" Of course, I have not seen television in over eight years, and as I understand the whole cast of all three come from some pop culture series. So maybe that is why they have been so popular: Because people carry this baggage with them from knowing the faces and personalities from television shows. All it did was confuse me and make me angry. If I had gone to the theatre with him and his friends I would have inevitably "made a scene" during its unspooling. Sorry Wes, I love the Nightmare series so much, especially one and seven (which you are actually responsible for, and which I have spent the $120.00 for the boxed DVD set of--side note: Why has COAXIAL not commented on this, the most ambitious of ALL DVD sets yet?), but this "SCREAM" series makes me fall asleep, or in reality, too mad to sleep; instead all I do is get furious at how horrible it is/how insipid the characters are...

I just wanna say this is one heck ova movie....actually...the only things i didnt like is that Sidney played more of a minor character, cotton got killed at the first, and it made it look as if scream 2 didnt even take place....there were references except for Randy(jamie kennedy) being killed off....and Sid was wearing her boyfriend's(Jerry o Connor) omega letters....over all the plot was cool, the actors were good, and the suspense was awesome.....the girl sitting next to me scared me more than the movie did w/ her sudden screams peace out

The fact that some people liked this movie only proves that there is nothing new out there to go see. This movie plays more like "I Know Again Still What you Did Last Summer Before Last." I am so pissed off at the ending to this movie. I mean, come on! The whole "thing" that they have been advertising about this movie is that "all bets are off...anything you have learned in the previous movies is total bunk..." Spoilers**** if you haven't seen the movie, don't read**** Okay, so that dude who posted the other day that Randy shold be the killer (you never see him die in ScreamII) was totally perfect. Think about it....Randy was always in love with Sid, he is the only one you never actually see die (before roman in this movie), and that whole tape thing would make it PERFECT for him to have fake dhis own death. It makes soooo much sense. The dude who always loved movies and the whole shit creates his own trilogy. It would have even made Scream 2 seem like a better movie (it was okay, but WHY did Randy die?). Do you see what I mean? I dunno...Roman, the "half brother" that is introduced in this movie, thats absolute BULLSHIT. The killer HAD to be a character from all three movies. This ending is soooo disappointing. I thought Scream 3 had a certain energy, a more mature sense, the teenyboppers and six year olds are not going to get most of the inside jokes but for a passionate film lover like me, I loved it! I was very excited to see Parker Posey and Gale Weathers together in a bitch-fest and the scene when they are all trapped up in the house, and the killer faxes them was very cool, very Manic energy that Miss Posey created, the movie was a spark that finally went out with a bang at the end! I felt really sad when I actually thought SID was going to bite it, I felt like any second , any of these charecters that we cared for were going to bite it, but in the end, it put a smile on my face! WOW, i remember going to see Scream 1 opening day like it was yesterday, when it only made 4 million opening weekend, I knew that wasn't going to last long and BAB, millions and millions later and now the end of the trilogy.............hummm it's a sad feeling..............I guess you all can tell I loved the Scream series..........

It is a safe bet that someone will discuss the movie's end in a talkback ABOUT the movie- just don't read them until after you see it! Anyway, I also enjoyed the film. I seem to be part of a small minority that really enjoyed the second film. The first is still the best (I admit the last two have WTF? endings, but they work in their own way, especially 3's), but I like 3 & 2 equally. To quote every movie poster for the first two: "Hip, scary fun!" cough cough Anyway, if you liked 1 & 2 more than likely 3 won't disappoint- just go see it and make your own decision. I wonder how much Harry will rip on it? I am guessing a lot.

There's something really sinister about a series of films advertised and hyped as a parody or satire of a genre like 'horror' movies. Asside from the one-line jokes refering to other movies, there is nothong funny about the 'Scream' movies. I looked for the humor. Is it funny to watch movie stars you recognize become props in the same demoralizing murder scenes you've seen in a dozen other films? From Drew Barrymore being hanged and gutted in part 1 to Omar Epps getting knifed through the head in part 2. In contrast, those people emphasize the crassness of the anotomical precision of the act of murder. What is funny about innocent young people becoming Wes Craven's little dead puppets? Gosh it must be fun for the actors. This series is not a landmark event. Get over yourselves, all of you who seek to debate the merrits of murder. The Farrley Brothers, The Zuckers, Mel Brooks, these are the great satarists of modern cinema. Wes Craven, it seems, is merely attempting to live up to his name.

ok..... first off.... i thought the movie was OK..... but, all in all.... kinda a disaster.... in the beginning, i thought, hey, wow.... they're gonna be revisting the first one, cool.... i could get into this.... but then, STAB 3..... ok, fine.... but what happened to STAB 2? and if this is STAB 3, why do the scenes remake Scream 1? Then.... the mother coming back from the dead thing...... Awesome idea to me.... but it has absolutely nothing to do with the story..... then the cop guy..... hes obviously obsessed with her.... but it's never talked about again.... ok, the killer.... uhm.... her BROTHER? Oh, BROTHER.... the guy as the director, sure, makes sense, but him being Sid's brother? Is that really necessary? and if he killed Sid's mom, why did Billy and Stu say they killed her in Scream 1? And what did he have to do with the first one.... it makes no sense..... ok, then the door blowing open at the end.... not to get all technical.... but she shut the door.... completely... the wind wasnt blowing that hard.... my opinion..... the story should have had more explinations for things.... like the obsessive cop guy, and the mother.... No offense meant for Wes Craven..... but the first one was good.... original.... something memorable, with the whole 2 killer thing.... but the second one, with, again, 2 killers..... kinda boring.... then with the third one making hardly any sense at all, try something new, Mr. Craven... maybe a nice romance? =) Anyway.... the movie could've been better if you ask me...

You guys and gals kill me. You whine that there are no smart slasher movies, then they make "scream". And it gets good reviews. Then they kill your beloved Randy. boo hoo. That was at least a surprise, you've got to admit that. the ending to "2" was a little weak. I would've liked the boyfriend angle better. But come-on, scream 3 sucked? if you know it all then write a screenplay, get it bought, find a director and cast your actors. If your not going to do that then shut up, quit whining or we (the audience will get another run of horror movies like "critters or ghoulies".

I thought this movies was great. Everyone makes such a big deal about the climaxes of these films. It seems to me that who the killer is is rarely the point. The fun is the telling of the story and the pacing in these movies sets a whole new standard for thrillers. If we're honest about it the horror genre is like the science fiction genre. Every once in a while you get a Star Wars or a Blade Runner. But the majority is entirely derivative attempts at tapping into the zeitgeist like Battlestar Galactica or I know What You Did Last Summer. Maybe the Scream movies didn't redefine the horror genre for some people the way a lot of other people claim they do. But how someone can knock on the technique involved just betrays their uniformed opinions about movies. The Scream movies are, at the very least, original. And to people who say they hope the horror genre dies out: It's not going to. The genre serves very deep-rooted psychological needs for our culture. That's why horror movies exist in the first place. The fun of horror movies is that most are completely ridiculous, but every once in a while one comes along that enables you to look at all of them from a different perspective. Anyway, enough preaching. Scream 3 was, I thought, a lot of fun. Do yourself a favor and see it for yourself, if only so you'll know what you are talking about. Never, Never, Never listen to someone who tells you not to go see something. They've got control issues and have no business critiquing movies.
