I can't believe I'm first on one the coolest stories of the year (so far anyway). I really like the costumes. I was worried about them but my fears have subsided. I especially like Mystique. Can't wait for the trailer!

Great job on getting these pics, Harry! Whew, I've been waiting to see these for a long time (as has everyone else)! Hmmm, Mystique looks great - can't wait to see the rest of her body. Cyclops - wow, they REALLY strayed from the comic costume...this one's going to take some warming up to. I'm pretty indiferent towards Wolverine's costume - does anyone else think it's just kind of generic? Professor X - looks great...Patrick Stewart is a fanboy dream come true! Sabretooth - looks okay (kind of a bit too klingon-ish). Toad - Ugh...what were they thinking?

...not to dump on all the hard work Harry's done, but it's time for ol' Justin to air some gripes. This dude they picked for Wolverine (never heard of him before this) looks a bit skinny to be Wolverine, no? And besides that, he looks a bit young to play the ol' Canucklehead. It was dark, but his hair appears to be okay. The ol' Prof looks pretty much like I thought he'd look... Mystique is by far the best looking one of them all... that picture creeps me out, and it's hard to creep ol' Justin out. Cyclops looks okay if you like Cyclops, which I don't, so the point is moot. I'd still like to see the optic blasts, though. Toad looks absolutely nothing like I had imagined, and neither does Ray Park. As Darth Maul he scared little children the world over, but as himself he seems a bit... I dunno... Joe Schmoe. Unfortunately he doesn't look like hunched-over tiny Joe Schmoe, which is how Toad should look. As for Sabretooth, it looks like they just took this wrestler guy and glued some hair on him. What's so scary about that?! In any case, he'll mop the floor with skinny little Wolverine is my guess. I don't care how old the man is, I'd be far more afraid if Gary Busey was Sabretooth... I mean, have you ever seen the guy snarl? The man is frightening... not just in appearance, but in the ol' cranium as well. I didn't know what to make of his appearance on Howard Stern where he ran around like a loon the entire time. Anyway, this post is sounding less and less coherent the more I type, as I am very sleepy. Just wanted to weigh in with my opinions no one cares about anyway... I'll still see the movie as a matinee (or free, depending on what I can worm). Oh, one last little bit of info- has anyone else heard about the upcoming shows they're putting on UPN? The parade of crap continues... "Monster Truxx 2000: The New Thrillennium!!!", a WWF-inspired crunchfest involving monster trucks and their drivers, "Hip-Hop Bounty Hunters" which still makes me laugh despite reading the article this morning, and a show about female spies undercover as volleyball players entitled "I Spike". Let's put UPN out of its misery before they destroy television! Anyway, time for sleep.

I used be a comic geek myself, and I'm eagerly looking forward to this film, which looks like its in capable hands all around. HOWEVER, is the general public going to see this as any different from Mystery Men? I know MM was advertised as a comedy, and was a moderately funny, less-than-stellar action film, but by taking a more serious tone, will this attract more moviegoers? I'm really not sure...there's really no case to be made for X-Men being known outside the comic world as anything of note. Unlike Mystery Men, this film doesn't even have Indie-Film Star Power. If the SFX and stunts look really cool, it may help, but I wouldn't be looking for a high box office on this one, which unfortunately may affect the future of comic adaptions of cool meterial that isn't as recognizable as Batman or Spiderman.

I don't buy it. They look like refugees from a "Frankie Goes To Hollywood" video. Patrick Stewart reminds me of a Borg. Rebecca Romjin-Stamos is a pretty girl, but can she act underneath all that make up? Wolverine has the right face, wrong body, like a Rob Liefeld drawing. The whole thing reminds me of the "He-Man Masters of the Universe" movie.

Thanks a bunch for getting these pics Harry.The costumes seem a bit generic but this movie isn't really going to be about costumes and gadgets.Singer has said that the X-men is more about the characters and that they wont even appear in costume until the final minutes of the movie.I'll reserve my final judgement until i see these on film.The worst has to be Toad but im guessing this is before makeup.The best has to be Wolverine, he looks just like Logan.Wish Nightcrawler was in the damn movie though.

Ummm. I am REALLY sorry to say this, but I think that they could have done a lot better job on the characters. Cyclops looks cool though (even if he is standing like a dork). Wolverine, The Toad, they just are not what I was hoping for... Oh Well, I guess I'll have to wait for the movie, or at least the trailer...

You slap a leather suit on THE IRON GIANT, he could play any of these character parts, or all of them for that matter. He does have the same powers as they do. Consider Cyclops with is optical blasters, just like THE GIANTS eye rays: Wolverine is a living weapon, just like THE GIANT: Mystique is a shape shifter, so is THE GIANT: Toad is an amphibious criminal, THE GIANT is an amphibious hero: Sabertooth, very animalistic warrior, THE IRON GIANT is a very auto animatronic warrior. So why pay five actors to pay the role that one could play. I will never understand Hollywood, or why a chicken breast never has nipple for that matter. In fact, chickens do not produce milk like mammals, so really they do not have breasts at all. They have pecs.

Second -- this movie is gonna be so frickin bad it's gonna make BATTLEFIELD EARTH look like Taxi Driver..... but you know what that's not necessarilly a bad thing. I've spent the last few days of my life trippin' on DON RICKLES: BUY THIS TAPE YOU HOCKEY PUCK, CHRIS ELLIOT: ACTION FAMILY and FDR a one man show, BUCK ROGERS with GILGerard and KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE.... So I welcome a 80 million dollar version of VanDamme and DeSOuza's STreet fighter. ONe more thing, I hung out tonight with one of my queer friends who was sporting a handle bar moustache and studded purple jacket.... I guess it was him who directed this film... long live queer sci-fi.... and the Village People in Space... Peace out Stewart, McEllan, Brian "proved once and for all I am a disco groovin' queen" Singer, and my bi/gay pall Wazzle. Lifes too wierd for "good" movies anyway. I will be first in line for X-Men. I gotta say I tip my hat off to Singer and his crew so far regarding casting and costume. Don't get me wrong guys, I like the comic book costumes but these are damn cool. We need something new to keep us Xited. I love the very dark look of the costumes and can't wait to see X-woman, you know, Rogue, Jean and Storm. Where to start where start, ok Professor X, two word comes to mind PERFECT MATCH. Cyclops, Matrixy but comic Book inspired as well, I like very much. Wolverine, same as above but Fierce very pissed off looking, I really can't wait to see this guy in action. Mystique, evil very dark looking. Toad seems to be very plain looking but anythings better than the jester garb. If you ask me Toad needs to be seen on film before passing judgement, I'm sure his mutant skill is enough to keep us satisfied after all he was Darth Maul. And last we got Sabertooth, Animalistic look very awsome. The cool thing about these costumes is that they look more believeable than lets say, Superman The Movie costume. I have a feeling I will like this movie alot. Thers may take, Oh and by the way, I hope you guys liked my drawing of the Wolverine X-men The Movie custume at the Coming Attraction X-men site, later.

Come on guys, if they were to try and reproduce the comic the characters would all look just plain dumb. Yellow and blue? C'mon.... No, I like the new costumes, I mean at least they're in costume and they look like a team rather than trying to naturalise the concept even further. While I'm still a little unsure of Marsden/Cyclops, I agree, let's wait and see him in the film before passing final judgement. He looks a little to young and pretty for my idea of the, if I remember, rather angular Scott Summers. And yes it's a dorky shot of Jackman, I agree also, but dammit he looks just like Logan. The hair's cool, bone structure the lot....I can't wait Shame no Rogue and Storm but, hey patience will be rewarded....with this and Raimi getting Spiderman (schedules willing)at lats Marvel have finally got a respectable crack at the film market. All we need now is a David Ficher 'Iron Man' and we're laughing....

The costumes look o.k. - I`m not going through the roof on Wolverine, but the others are fine. Cyclops especially. Toad lacks his final makeup, plus his character`s so FX-heavy, judging him from this shot is premature and unjustified. I agree with Uncapie. Rebecca Romijn-Stamos looks great and if she can act the part decently I'll be happy. I'm not really familiar with the comic, having only read a few issues from various incarnations. But after seeing these almost ridiculous costumes, and the prettyboys Marsden and Jackman, I'm worried. (Hey, what a terrible Wolverine! Where's the beef?) Granted, maybe they'll look better moving. And shit, maybe the script is fantastic and a few mediocre performances won't spoil the effort, like a certain other famous Brian Singer flick. Stick a chicken up your ass.

Ummm...excuse me but Harry did jackshit to get these pics. I got them on my own accord and sent them. None of this bull about him calling me is true! My friend sent them to me and I scanned them and I sent them to Harry so all you guys could enjoy them. I notice that my letter explaining my initiative was conviently left off the posting. No, from the article I come off as Harry's bitch. To answer Jimmy Ryalto & Eternal, there are no pics of Rogue, Magneto or Jean because the Rogue and Jean pics are just the actors, not in costume, so I didn't bother scanning them. The Magneto pic is pretty much the same one we have already seen, so I did not bother sending it either. And what's this "Brought To You By Ain't-It-Cool-News" crap? Afraid someone will take them and take the credit for getting them? I know how that feels. Allow me to let you all in on something - in the press kit it lists Ain't It Cool News as a partner in promoting the movie. Excellent job Harry, I've got to say i love the Cyclops outfit,pretty cool! Wolvie however needs work,first of all the actor just is'nt anywhere near muscular enough,i believe Wolvie's arms are probably 20". It would have been really cool to see him with the short sleeve look showing off those Super hairy muscular arms. This is one of my main complaints with comicbook movies,the actors never match the physiques,why? I don't know,this is where useing unknown actors would come in handy,like they did for the Green Mile,that guy was huge!would make an excellent Bishop. Mystique however looked pretty awesome,i just hope her acting is up to par,probably will be. Also Sabertooth looks pretty cool,again though with the arm thing. Patrick Stewart looks great as Prof.X,of course we knew he would,perfect casting,he should've been Mr.Freeze in Batman and Robin,oh well,can't win em all i guess. And toad,well it's hard to tell since he's not in full make-up,can't wait to see Storm,Rogue,and of course Magneto. Okay, so they look nothing like the comic. Big fricking deal fanboys. I think that with the obvious exception of Toad, the costumes look very sweet-ass, and deserve a second look. Mr. Bryan Singer is a smart guy and knows what hes doing. All you are doing is putting more pressure on him you dumb-ass little fanboys. Don't you have more of a life that you can do something else other than whining? Maybe you should go write a script huh? I'd like to see your interpretations of the X-Men confined to a 78 million dollar budget (which is not a lot in movie land) Did you happen to notice the official logo at the top? It kicks ass! My only real complaint besides Toad is why does Wolvie have a different costume than shown last week? The stunt double costume kicked serious ass! Hopefully he will wear both. He's hiding out. He's Scared. Scared because he made a big mistake. He made the mistake of bringing one of the world's most sensational comics "down to earth." He read about five comics, took a quick look at them, and said, "hmm.. this is nice. Let's fuck it up completely." I am so sick and tired of looking for pics and clips... but i must continue. I...must...protest. They destroyed the most notable of comic characters and put them in New Age Threads that leave a fanboy gagging. This is OUR x men. And when a kid sees x men for the first time without reading a comic, he's gonna see some scrawny-assed Wolverine (with his hair still done WRONG) and recognize him as having a stupid-assed costume. not the stocky, world weary, berzerker -induced freak that we all have up on our walls and in our Wizards. I can't take it anymore. I stood by this since day one!!! FUCK ALL THAT!i am declaring war against it. I want this shit to fall to the ground with a resounding thud. I want them to see what it does to break a franchise. Singer toned down powers, so that we might "believe" them. FUCK THAT, TOO!!! I don't see how making a bunch of superheroes into lame ducks is believablilty. did anyone say, "Ummm.. yeah. I want Superman to... jump, but not that high.. we don't 'believe' someone can fly, do we?" AAAAARGH! This is painful. Is Toad hosting some kinda teen show in those threads? it bears repeating: This movie will eat shit and die at the box office. Looking at these picture and seeing these silly S&M outfits really for the first time my thoughts were this is like making a Superman movie without the big S on his chest or having Tarzan go through an entire film dressed always in a three-piece suit. At leat two -- probably closer to four, I can't be sure -- generations have grown with this version of the X-Men, and just like with Superman's S and red cape and Batman's pointy-eared cowl and Sherlock Holmes and his deerstalker cap and magnifing glass its their costumes that immediately catch the eye and remind you of what characters they are and from where you know them from. But this certainly is not what's going to happen with these X-Men. People who know the comic book characters are going to have to look twice and then be disgusted at what Hollywood has done to their childhood heroes, and those who are not familiar with them are going to be left scratching their heads and going "Huh? Wha? Is this another Star Trek movie?" I have now seen the second coming of "Wild, Wild West." And its shitty title is "X-Men: the Movie." God help us all.

..it's a friggin' movie and the costumes don't look that bad. In fact, I kinda like them. What do y'all expect???? Comic book costumes simply do not translate at all onto the big screen, and it looks like Singer has done the best job he could in designing these. I was most interested in Jackman's "Wolvie" look, since Logan is by far my favorite character in the Marvel Universe. I don't know if anyone remembers or not, but Logan didn't really "bulk" up to his current proportions until the Jim Lee era. Prior to that, he was a little guy, not only short, but on the lean side as well. Personally, I think Jackman has Logan nailed in the photo (stiff pose notwithstanding), not only in look but in the attitude that oozes off the look on his face. I also really like the hair! Anyway, I think everyone needs to calm down and wait for the final cut before passing judgment. My .02 worth.

You never can tell - those lying bastards that did the Marvel animated videos in the early '80s brought in Casey Kasem to cheerily announce that "This is Stan Lee!" to all us impressionable five year-old kiddies. Well, I for one am happy. Except for Mystique. Hers is worse than Toad's in my opinion. Why? Because the Mystique of the comics and animated series has a lighter, sleeker, and much more sensual hue of blue to it. That dark grape jam shade just seems to overdo it. Also, What is that cranial scarring she has on her forehead? That just takes away from her beauty. That was never a feature in comicdom, so why would it be added now, especially when it will be most important to be her sexiest best? Otherwise, that trailer better be here in the next week or so, because I am rearin' to give it an in-depth study or fifty!

Just going through the fanboy rants, I thought I'd offer some perspective. Superman and Batman were cultural icons, so the looks of their costumes had to be honored or regular audiences would have been confused. But most normal people have no idea who or what the X-Men are, so the fact that the costumes have been changed won't make a whit of difference to regular audiences. That being said, I do think the costumes are ugly. They look like rejects from Dune.

To bring up the point Darth Siskel made concerning superheroes and their costumes... it's all true! Before SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE went behind the cameras, executives at Warner Brothers didn't believe that Supes would look right on screen in his comic book threads. But since he had become a national icon, the fans would go nuts if his costume was changed. So they gave it a shot, and it worked, brilliantly, I might add. See, the reason that people don't believe that comic book heroes and villains wouldn't look right on the screen is because they don't give them a chance. I n SUPERMAN, it worked because Christopher Reeve made you believe that he was Superman. That's why the costume worked. You saw Superman on screen. That's the problem with this X-MEN movie. Bryan Singer and the execs at 20th century Fox don't have faith in the source material. What they don't understand is that if they got interesting actors to play the X-MEn they wouldn't have to rip their designs off of the Matrix! The only actor in this film who I believed was right for his role was Patrick Stewart. He has the acting chops to make us believe that he is Professor X. But unfortunately, he doesn't have to cavort around in ayellow and blue costume. It pisses me off that some "serious" director like Bryan Singer begs to direct this film, then strays from the source material so immensely that he should be rounded up by THE FANBOY POLICE and hanged! I can't get over all the whiners that are on this board. I don't like the costumes, they don't have my favorite character, the pics look stupid, yada yada, yada. How many of you have aactually seen a teaser of the flick. Well, I have and let me tell you that the above pictures don't do the characters justice. There have been some changes to the costumes(although minor)so the final costumes look a little different than the pics above. The main reason that they strayed from the original costumes is they wanted a darker look for the film, so they went for these type of costumes instead of the brightly colored ones. I for one am glad they did, I would hate to see them prance around on the screen like a bunch of ballet dancers on acid. As for those of you that are crying about how Batman was so much better, I am amazed how you can make this comparison since The X-Men hasn't even come out yet, and all you have seen is a couple of promotional shots of the characters. I am glad that they didn't go for the bodysuit with shudder nipples. Never senn anything look so stupid in my life. The way that Jackman portrays Wolvie in the film is great. When he gets into his Wolvie persona he looks and acts like Wolvie, and Toad looks different in the teaser when the SFX are added. All in all this is the most anticipated movie of the year, and I for one can't wait to see it. For, all you nay-sayers, and X-Men haters when the movie comes out don't go see it. We won't miss you it will be less people talking in the theater. For those of you that I am refering to you may now flame away, since I now have on my asbestos underwear. The X-stumes arw practical. If spandex is such great fightin' gear why aren't marines sporting Danskins. Also everything is bright in comics (esp. during the Claremont/Byrne/JR jr era) and guys runnin' around in yellow and blue spandex trying to save the world wouldn't look like heroes, just dumasses. My worry is the story--they will have the usual (suspect?-sorry) save the world thing and forget the characters> I can just see Magneto using the Statue of Liberty like Stay-puf in Ghostbusters. Oi!

You can't go wrong with mixing Dracula and the Punisher, you just can't. The main character is a superhero, the man has vampireic powers. Also It was a rated R movie and those kind of movies equal realism. All in all It was a great movie. Hopefully the X-men Movie won't suck, but you never know until the movie comes out. In my opinion the costumes rock, they are just what I thought they would look like. But you know, these single frame pictures of the character don't do them justice until we see them film. Have you ever taken a bad picture in your lives, thats what these are bad pictures. I will hold my judgement of the film until either the trailer or the entire film comes out. I live in South Africa and I have just seen the live-action Asterix and Obelix movie (dubbed of course). Now this was a good comic book adaptation! The costumes were excellent, they chose the right actors, the locations were excellent, everything but the dubbing was very good indeed. I hope that the X-Men movie is also a good live-action comic book movie. In fact, I prey to g-d it is, as I have been waiting for it since I heard that they were making it back in 1995 (Cinescape), well it took them 5 years to make it. Hopefully the movie will be better than these pictures.

And by the way, all superhero movies (except for the first two "Superman" and first two "Batman" movies) blow majorlly hard. "Spawn", "Superman III and IV", "Blade", and any other ones out there. Which is why I wish all these movie companies would stop making them, especially after "Batman & Robin". I think it's not just Marvel in particular that is cursed (even though i don't think it's cursed at all to begin with), I think it's ALL superhero movies. They all generally suck and I think superheroes can only translate well to the comic book pages, where they belong, instead of on the big screen. Now I know, maybe Burton got away with it, only 'cause he knew what he was doing, and brought us to Batman's dark side even deeper than could be read on the bubbles on the comic book pages. But Schumacer gave a perfect example of why NOT to make superhero movies, simply because of sorry ass directors like himself. Because if directors turn these type of films into their own personal project, like Burton did even though he still did a good job, it'll come out as total popcorn! Batman & Robin Jesus, "Batman & Robin" looked almost exacally like the 60's TV series. Only thing Schumacer forgot was the sound-effects spelt out on the screen every time Batman K.O.-ed a thug. Another example of a bad comic movie is the last two "Superman" films. Popcorn...nuff said. And this is what I expect from "X-Men", another failure. I definitly hope I am proven wrong. The biggest failure I expect is the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie, which will probably be never made. And after reading the script, I hope it never is...nuff said. Now lets all just wait for "X-Men" to flop.

I think the costumes look really good. I'm glad they didn't use the comic costumes, as they'd have looked lame on the big screen. I too wish Sinister and Apocalypse had been the villians, but Mags is O.K. I'm sure the special effects for the toad will be great. Mystique looks great too. My only complaint is that Wolverine needs to 'buff up'. He does look way too weedy to be Wolvie--and I'm not sure whether the hair thing is good or not; it doesn't look that great. At least Cyclops and Mystique look class--not that I like Cyclops' character, but he looks cool.

Costumes like that are just another reason why you should always flush the toilet when leaving the restroom. You never know when someone could use your personal creations as ideas for movie designs. I think that with all the different characters in the X-Men universe, they could have picked some that didn't need to have hip, trendy costumes. Iceman and Beast would have been good since they don't have any costume, and characters like Gambit and Angel would have also been good choices, since their costumes have dark, mono-toned colors anyway. As for Wolverine, why not just leave him in his street clothes (the plaid shirt and brown jacket with the furry collar). And Mystique would have had so much more sex appeal if she had her white gown and long hair. Prof. X and Cyclops look pretty cool though.

The thing that realy makes my blood boil is how much film makers worry about translateing comic books to the screen. They want to make sure that reality will accept the translation. They want to make sure that Batman for example, a man who runs around dressed as a bat won't be ridiculed wearing an all black leather outfit rather than the grey and blue original. The problem with that is this guy runs around wearing a bat costume he is going to be ridiculed anyway! So why don't you poeple just make a true translation of the comic book and not worry about the fucking costume. People don't fly, swing from building to building shoot green light out of rings. Truthfully! If can do all those things in real life, I woul be wearing a colorfull costum.

Looking at these pictures my mouth dropped wide open as I scrolled down slowly. I knew it before but these pictures just cemented it in stone. This will be one of the WORST films ever made. Talk about zero anticipation. I agree with the person above who said this would probably be worse than Batman and Robin. I'm starting to wish Joel Schumacher had directed. The costumes are horrible, the actors (excluding Stewart and McKellan) are horrible, and I'm gonna save myself from being let down by knowing its gonna suck. Yes, like Superman. ***** Speaking of which, Xero, I can't believe anyone could actually be so foolish as to hold up Blade as superior to Superman. Blade was fun, but it was a trifle, and ultimately as vapid and empty as anything I've ever seen. Superman...hell man, that movie did nothing less than embody the whole idea of heroism and sacrifice, and you say "the story was off". Riiiight. You think dark is good? Bullshit. Dark is trendy. True heroism, as Superman represents...now THAT'S good. And by the way, John Williams score to Superman utterly dominates the in-ten-years-it'll-be-cheesily -dated techno soundtrack that Blade sports. Superman should serve as the blueprint for doing a comic book movie right. The Rocketeer is the only other superhero movie that even comes close.

Ok, so Toad didn't exactly float my boat, but keep in mind that it said CIVILIAN CLOTHING, so who freakin' cares anyway? As for the rest of the costumes, I'm so glad they did them right. How much would it have sucked if they had kept those same costumes from the comic books (yellow and blue on film is just to the right of gay). And yes, they're not dynamic shots but just wait until you see them. X-Men are all about being in motion anyway. Batman and Superman look cool standing and in action, so quit comparing. By the way, I think Wolverine looks freakin' awesome, Cyclops is very cool, especially compared to how he would've looked with the original costume. Sabretooth is gonna look awesome in action and of course Prof. X is perfect and a good rendition of Cerebro too. And, of course, Mystique is the bomb diggity. And for all you skeptics, think of how many people grew up with X-Men (like myself) and how many little kids who loved the cartoon and all the net gossip going around. How anyone can think this movie is gonna tank is beyond me. Oh yeah, and Bryan "I made the coolest freakin' movie (The Usual Suspects)" Singer is an amazingly talented director and actually made "Apt Pupil" watchable. Okay, a few things I gotta get out of my system. First of all, the X-Men costumes look pretty Gaddamn goofy. It's really getting old with all these Hollywood people wanting to take the comic book out of comic book heroes. That's just insane. And YES, so far, Superman the Movie IS the BEST translation of a comic book to film. Both the look and the feel of the comic were preserved. Any of these idiots who don't see that need to go watch it again, AND read some of the comics. But the REASON it worked is because they hired people who actually CARED about the characters, not some jerk-off who has no idea who the characters are that he's destroying. Of course, with the X-Men, he's starting out with a lot less than they had to work with for Superman, but they should have stayed true to the source anyway. I am SOOOO sick of these "Artistic" directors and producers who want to do a comic book movie, but don't want it to LOOK like a comic book. Let's just kill all these motherfuckers and maybe we can find someone who actually gives a shit about where these characters came from. And as for making the movie darker than the comic, cuz that seems like "The way to go" If you want to make a dark comic book movie CHOOSE A FUCKING DARK COMIC!!!!!! I for one would have preferred to see the X-Men in their real costumes, with their real powers. This is just gonna suck. Regardless of whether or not the costumes are true to the comic book, the costumes in the pictures look terribly uninspired, unflexible and rigid. In my opinion, the leather "uniform" motif just doesn't work at all. The best looking pictures were of Toad and Sabretooth, at least they had some color! As for Mystique, it looks like the make up artists just didn't know when to stop. She doesn't look like she has blue skin, she looks like she's a white person that has blue paint over her. Wolverine looks pretty good, except for the costume. Black with yellow highlights? What fashion designer's nightmare did that come out of?? All in all, the dark costumes are just too gritty for the X-men.

These pictures prove my feeling that they should abandon this whole comic book to film medium when it comes to the superhero. Something "out there" like the Preacher could work or Jonah Hex (imagine, like Army of Darkness turned into a Western), but the superhero genre just ends up being clumsy. Bright colored costumes, weird body types, strange powers and the like, look fine on the printed page because an artist uses the select pose in one frame for the maximum best picture he can create. When you try to take that and put it into different dimensions and motion, it ends up being clumsy, like a blue screened Christopher Reeves flying as Superman or the constipated kung fu of Wesley Snipes as Blade. During the late 80's early 90's glory days of X Men, the time that it saw its surge in popularity, I was a voracious fan, but I never once entertained the thought of wanting to see a movie of them. I knew it wouldnt work. I dont want some actor pretending to be Wolverine. The Wolverine I love, and everyone else, is on the page, and could never be translated onto the screen. The proof is right there in that photo. They got some young, doofus, stud and not someone like say, Harvey Kietel, who is both the right age, height, and haggard enough to attempt portraying him (although Kietel would still fail). I'm sorry, but just buy the comics; this comics to celluliod thing is a waste of time and money. Lets see something original instead of limited and pale imitations

I want to know about "X-men" as much as the next person, but a lot of times I don't even bother checking the articles here, because I know it will be a mass of complaints. Thanks for not letting me down. If it's not the casting, it's the director. If it's not the director, it's the age of the characters. If it's not the ages, it's the costumes. Give it up. If you are this wrapped up in a movie based on a comic book, where over-endowed women (and men) don colorful costumes, and use magical powers to fight a variety of cartoonish villians, you really need to get out more. This movie isn't about muscles and bright costumes - it's about what lies at the heart of the X-Men: the struggle between two mutants for control of the destiny of their people, an allegory for prejudice and discrimination. I stopped reading the comic a good 7 years back, but it was more than a wham bam action story - it was part soap opera part social commentary. In the long run, the costumes have nothing to do with nothing. And you can't judge the costumes and the look of the movie from these publicity stills. Give this movie a chance for crying out loud.

I remember reading a Stan's soapbox in some comic from the 70s and he was talking at the time at how the powers-that-be in Hollywood making the Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man television series didn't want them to be too "comicbooky," and how condescending they were towards the source material. Sigh. It seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Idiots run Hollywood, and they have learned absolutely nothing from the Superman and first Batman movie. I don't know - maybe they saw the reaction to the atrocious "Batman and Robin" and figured they needed to swing this one way the other way - of course it looks now like they're going way too far the other way now, with the X-Men not even appearing in costume until the final few minutes. Hello, Hollywood, Dipshit Central, that had to do with the terrible story and dialogue and showcasing Batman's crotch, not necessarily production design!!See, this absolutely drives me insane. I know I or someone else fanatical about the X-Men would put our heart and soul into the making of this movie, understanding the greatness of the Claremont/Byrne Dark Phoenix Saga and it would be so incredible...but unfortunately we have people with no regard or respect for the movie until they alter it for their perceptions, because they mostly never even read or grew up with the comic, and this movie really does mean a lot to a lot of people, and oh, I don't want to go on, it's too upsetting watching them do this to childhood heroes...

Really, the costumes can be dead on in the sequel. I don't mind if they aren't just right here, so long as the characters are right, and the story is moving. I've seen nothing to ruin that hope. The X-Men is a monumental waste of cash. Everything about it screams that it will be as bad as B&R or WWW. Comic book films need certifiable action/drama directors (such as David Fincher) and actors that in addition to looking good can bring a human side to these characters.....I'm sure glad Russell Crowe and Dougray Scott were lucky enough to avoid this film. Sorry everyone, but the costumes are far, FAR worse than the rubber batsuits. If they were trying to look like The Matrix, then they should have gone all-out. I'm more sickened than disappointed at this point. I hope that Spiderman is done a little more justice.

Mellow the fuck out people. Little things to remember about these photos... 1) There is nothing to scale them against, so Sabretooth necessarily doesn't look too menacing, nor is Wolvie able to put across his normal coiled-spring-of-death look... 2) They're standing still - pause the Matrix DVD during the dojo sequence and Morpheus looks like a goddamn trout fighting Neo the gawking tool... 3) These are almost certainly preliminary promo shots - they mean jack shit. I only have a few actual objections. The headgear looks like it's made out of cheap plastic. It would have been a nice touch to incorporate the traditional colours of each X-Man into their new costumes. Lastly, their is NOTHING that makes these guys look like a team, other than the blakc leather - no symbols, or really distinctive themes in their clothing. Wow, I must say that is quite sad. Now to the point. This story was a scoop on exactly what the X-Men would look like on film. Beleive it or not, that includes costumes. And some of you are amazed and shocked and even "shamed" that people are posting their opinions about the costumes!! I'm not a fanboy, so I won't judge the entire movie by the costumes or condemn the movie without seeing the finished product (actually, judging a movie by its trailer is also pretty premature, you hypocrites who tell us not to judge a film until we see the trailer). But I am free to my opinion of the costumes. Regardless of whether the film is a masterpiece, the costumes still suck. I'm not a stupid fanboy because I think the costumes suck.

Its amazing how the costume designers could one-up the Batman costume designers by creating something worse than rubber body armor with rubber nipples and cock pieces. I didn't think it was possible, but these ZIP-ON skin tight leather outfits take the cake! Okay, maybe the Batman costumes weren't practical, but at least they looked semi-cool! These just look way too retarded! Oh, I can hear the responses already: "Well, they have to get in and out of their uniforms somehow!!!" The costumes suck no way around it. This going to be my stance on a lot of comic to live action movies. They should have done it an animated feature. I don't know about the rest of you but I am a huge fan of anime (ore as some people call it japmation ) and if we have learned anything from classic like Akira, Nija scroll and vampire hunter D, it is that American film companies don't use the full potential of animation technically ore artistically. I mean watch Akira (I think most people reading this have) that looks awesome and the story was great. Now lets take a comic/movie/cartoon show SPAWN. The comic is great and the cartoon is a very well done adaptation, movie is average at best it, the movie just did not use technology, costumes ore the story to there full potential. I will admit the problem with doing an X-men animated feature is it has the X-men series to live up to. But you could change look of the animation (do all the comic artist look the same no) I think they should have made it a serious (as possible) animated movie that way they could avoid the costumes suck because they are a bad adaptation of the comic costumes syndrome which this movie is going to suffer from in a major way. Sorry about the rant but I think it should have been an animated film. I honestly think that the western film market needs a major and successful animated movie that is not meant for the 13 and under crowed Disney market there animated films too. I'm sure that Hollywood is shaking in it's boots now. A few hundred fanboys on AICN don't approve of the costumes. I can imagine how much better the response would be if they costumes were all brightly colored spandex stretched over the actors' less than perfect bodies (with the exception of Stamos). This movie is still going to make at least 100 million dollars and probably more if they get the story down. Pieces of shit like Armageddon bring in 200 million. This won't bomb because the geniuses on AICN don't like the costumes. It could still be pretty good. I haven't seen it, I haven't read the script, and I haven't seen any of the characters in action. Until then, I won't say much about the movie's overall quality and I think the bandwagon kids around here might try doing the same.

I'm sick of all these dorks saying you can't have a opinion on what the movie will be like. This is talk back, it's for discussion. I can see perfectly why someone would think this movie will suck at this point. Everyone when rumours first came in, they were like don't say it'll suck wait for costume descriptions! Then we had costume descriptions, so people are like, wait till we have pictures!! Then we now have pictures so people are like, wait for the trailor!! When the trailor hits people will be like, wait for the movie!! The fact is, people like to argue, they like their side being heard. That's what we're all here for, so embrace it. The people faithfully standing by these costumes cause they're new and different sound rediculous. There's no problem with wanting something different, but clearly you can see why people would hate these. Wolverine looks wimpy, and sure you can say well it's a bad press photo.. but nearly all of them are bad press photos! Doesn't that get you worried that that's the best they have to offer? Anyways... I'm still hopeful that this movie will be good. Maybe the costumes will translate better on the big screen. I'm not going to say costumes don't matter, cause they do, a lot. They're very vital to establishing a character, it represents a lot. THAT'S what worry's me about these costumes, there's no personality to them. Individually, or team wise. Does that scream this is the x-men? No. Does that costume scream this is wolverine? No. There is no problem with Hugh Jackman, get off that. It's the costume, and a crappy photographer, and some people who don't understand how wolverine should be presented. However, I'm not convinced these are the final costumes. If you go to coming attractions they show a picture of a stunt guy for wolverine in costume. His costume is slightly better with more detail. Good counterpoint to the claims that the X-Men's costumes don't matter because they're supposedly not iconic like Batman or Superman. You're right, despite the costume changes the X-men have gone through, they ARE cultural icons, especially to the folks who followed the title in the 70's and early 80's when it was at its creative peak. X-Men didn't become the most popular comic in the goddamn world by being unmemorable. Why tamper with what made them unique, with what made them successful? I haven't read the comic books, but I have watched a lot of Saturdays morning cartoons. Hopefully, this movie's saving grace will be an intriguing take on the characters and a fine story to match. It's always a pleasure to see McKellen and Stewart. I would have thought though that the features in Wolverine's costume would be made to appear more independent, more eccentric than those of the rest of his counterparts to help accentuate his rogue bad-ass status. And yeah, Eternal is definitely right about Apocalypse. Too bad he's not in this movie.

All of you that are wetting your pants, and bitching about the movie need to learn that this movie is about the characters, and not about what their wearing. It is a character driven movie. Now if he wanted to Singer could have made a Batman, or Superman clone with nothing but action, I for one am glad that he isn't. For those of you who don't work in the movie industry, you have know idea how it works. You should be thankful that this movie is even being made. If you whiners have been keeping up with interviews with singer and others would know that he didn't want the X-Men looking like a bunch of wrestler's, and Bodybuilders on steriods. This is about regular people learning to deal with their powers while dealing wtih a threat to humanity, and protecting those people who hate them. Just curious, how many people out ther were bitching when they saw Batman's costume for the first time? I would imagine about the same amout as I am seeing here. Bottom line I doubt very seriously that any of you that are complaining could do a better job on this movie, since you have no idea what it takes to do so, what with all the people that you have to answer to. Thank you one and all for making this movie, I know that I will throughly enjoy it when it comes out, and eagerly await the sequel. Thank you for all your hard work.

If there's a good script and good actors, it'll be a good flick. A good movie can have bad costumes. Until I see a script or see the film, I'm reserving judgement. As should the rest of you.

Maybe this concept is foreign to you, but this is talk back for people to share their opinions with other people. It's for people who haven't bowed out and gotten the idea their opinion doesn't matter. Of course we can't make a movie better than a paid director, that's why we're not directing. People saying they should have gotten Chris Benoit on the basis of him being strong clearly have no concept of what is going to make this movie great. The Wrestler being chosen to play Sabretooth however was a great choice. On the basis of him being a perfect match lookwise for him, but also he doesn't need to be as great as a actor as Hugh does for his part is probably less, and there isn't much dialouge and emotion being shown past Sabretooth's anger, which a wrestler would work well in. However, I liked cormorant's line "The new costumes aren't a daring adaptation, they're a cowardly concession to the popular look of Blade and The Matrix"

The X-Men became "successful" and "memorable" because of their fucking costumes? And here I thought it was the whole theme of scorned outsiders fighting to save exactly those people who hate them. I guess Claremont et al will be surprised to hear that it wasn't the stories, it was the costumes and bitchin' fights. "Still looking forward to the special effects and some of the costumes"--God Damn, that's pathetic. Man, I can't wait to see the costumes! I think I'm going to come right in my pants when I see those tights and cool color schemes! Newsflash: a good movie is first and foremost about the story. Sure, you can have over-the-top action fests like Blade that rock, but that's not what the X-Men are about. Personally, I wish they'd just made the movie about Wolverine, maybe base it off the Frank Miller limited series: you'd get tons of ninja battles, a love triangle, a crazy swordfight at the end, and wouldn't have to try and develop a whole team.

Alright, now we know what most of the cast is going to look like... and i have to agree with most of you, for the most part not too bloody impressive. i figure all the x-men will have the same black jumpsuit, which kinda makes sense... but it's a bloody comic book movie! Whatever. i like Mystique. i hate Toad. Sabretooth looks like a punk klingon. BUT. This will be different IN THE MOVIE. When they're moving around and ACTING, this will be different. i like Wolverine's face, and the character description... "Logan, living weapon". That has got to be the coolest thing i've ever heard. So keep faith. We haven't seen it in action yet.

1) It seems to me like these photos are test shots. The photo quality is poor, not at all the kind of stuff you'd normally expect to see as publicity stills from a big-budget hopeful-blockbuster. Also, the version of Logan's costume originally posted on Corona was much slicker, with the claw marks and at least three X-insignias. I think its best to wait and see how these costumes look in the context of the film itself (hopefully in a trailer . . . soon!) before judging the film as a disaster. 2) I, for one, like the idea of a return to the idea of the X-Men outfits as "uniforms," as they were originally and were again briefly during Jim Lee's run, rather than "costumes." We, the reader, think of the X-Men as superheros. They, and most of the people in the world they inhabit, do not. Unlike characters such as Superman, who can save the world and bask in public adoration, the X-Men have to maintain low visibility to carry out their activities, lest they be harassed by the anti-mutant public. Also unlike the bulletproof Superman, most of the X-Men are not invulnerable, and I like the functionality of the padded jumpsuits. 3) In regards to the allegations that the black costumes are simply Matrix rip-offs . . . I fail to see the justification for this argument. From my view, the only link between these outfits and the ones in the Matrix is the color. You might as well say the outfits are rip-offs of any film with black clothing featured prominently. 4) The general moviegoing public is being asked to swallow a big pill here . . . that super heroes can exist. There is only so far that one can suspend disbelief and get engaged with a superhero character. I would rather that people get to know Logan and the things that make him a cool character than laugh at his rather improbable mask. 5) The X-Men have had so many costume changes over the years. Logan himself has had about five! To me, this is no different, and no less exciting. As a longtime reader and X-Men fan, I think that what is most important is that the characters translate well to the screen, and not necessarily every aspect of their Lycra likenesses.

Where the fuck is Gambit!? Behind the obvious favorites Wolverine and Cyclops and the quitesential Storm (which I heard Halle Berry doesn't appreciate the role), Gambit is the biggest X-Man. Many of Rouge's storylines need Gambit to see the light of day. And speaking of Rouge, why the hell didn't Sarah Michelle Gellar get the role? She wanted it. I can't believe all the people that are convinced that this movie will bomb before the have even seen it. Does everyone here realize that the X-Men are a comic book? That the things that go on in the book can't possibly be duplicated on film. Why would we complain that the guy playing Wolverine in too skinny? Has anyone here ever seen a 5' tall musclebound Canadian with pointy hair? And stop griping about the costumes. The costumes in these movies are changed because the people who make the movie want the NON-COMIC READING audience to attend. Even if every X-Men fan in this country showed up it would be a bomb, that is why things are toned down from the comics world. So what if we don't know who Hugh Jackman is, was Harrison Ford a household name when Star Wars came out? I remember people bitching about Michael Keaton for days when they found out he was playing Batman but now those same people would kill to have him back in the cowl. Hell I'll be the first to admit the costumes are something different but keep and open mind. All you fan boys are so quick to critize when panel 6 on page 10 has a different color scheme than panel 6 in comics, just try to give it a chance. You all jump to the conclusion that the X-men movie will suck just because the costumes are different. No one has seen any action or read the script, your all passing judgement on a movie passed on six still photographs, seriously lighten up. I've loved X-men since I was 4 years old and now 12 years later I've seen them go through alot of changes and I've never lost faith. I'm not saying you have to love these shots, just give the movie a chance.

I wonder why Harrys bothers wasting time reporting it, since its about as far removed from being cool news in any sense of the word! How many times have I seen shitty super hero costumes that looked like that? Reminds me of the Daredevil episode of the Hulk. Daredevil was in black there too. Come to think of it, so was the one hit wonder who played Thor...all in black. Hey! I have an idea! How about when they make the Spider-Man movie...they dress him up in black leather too! I bet money that once this movie comes out, the X-Men line of comics are gonna eat it just like Howard the Duck did. All that Marvel has going for them is X-Men and Howard the Duck. You get the doomsday prophets of "suckdom", then the morons who try to show said prophets why the prophets are idiots and only THEY are the real smart ones, then you get the occasional passive mediator who won't make an opinion either way, but wants us all to just get along. Then, very rarely, comes along a post that makes a strong statement, then backs it up without being completely ignorant. I was an avide "old school" X-men fan. Collecting comics and reading them was a way of life during my earily teens. So when I saw the promotional poster at the local cinema, I thought 'bout time. Then I got a look at the costumes... uh, did the designers even pick up a comic before they started working on the costumes? Wolverine, in my recollection, had a 2 tone brown costume, Cyclops was blue and yellow. Why is everybody in black leather? Even the Matrix characters (excellent moive by the way) had their own indiviual costume colors while inside the Matrix. The developers of the comic worked long and hard (I hope) on the costume designs for each character. Remember, imatation is the greatest flatery. I really hope this moive well but I think real diehard X-Men fans (myself included) will be disappointed.

The costumes look pretty cool and will look even better on the big screen. I think I need to buy alot of baby bottles for all you little brats that keeping crying that this movie looks like crap! I think all you people complaining are just mad that you were not the ones to direct and produce this movie. I think that I might check into getting movie theatres to sell baby bottles starting in July for all you big babies that continue to cry that the movie is not the way you want it to be. That's right, get Alex Ross. Just look at his rendition of the X-men on the July 1999 issue of Wizard or any other superhero in Marvels and Kingdome Come. He can make these costumes look totally realistic and even uses mock costumes as reference to paint from. Just look at the Superman costume that Christopher Reeve wore. You don't need to have leather to make a superhero outfit more "realistic."

Rather than try to say the same stuff a diffrent way in this round, I present to you, the Talkbackers, two editions of Cormorant Classics, verbatim excerpts from my previous posts! Exciting stuff!!! ************ First up, a classic post regarding translating superhero costumes to the big screen without them looking silly: "Qatseri, on further reflection, I think you're right about the unified costumes for the first movie. I really want the X-Men in their individualized outfits, but yeah, for the initial formation of the group, they should probably all wear some variant of the classic blue and gold design. Still, I'd argue that traditional superhero costumes is a perfectly legit idea in general. As Niiice said, we're not talking skintight spandex (ala Chris Reeves' Superman) for everyone. Use thicker materials, padding to suggest muscles, even some Batman-esque armor - there're many options to create superhero costumes, and they don't all involve thin, skintight material. The actors don't even have to be buff with muscles - that's where the padding and a little creative costuming comes in (jackets and capes for instance). Costumes individualize superheroes, and the bright colors are there because superheroes are a larger-than-life concept. If they wear all blacks and dark blues, they look like cops and government agents. Bright colors = adventurers, daredevils, SUPERHEROES. They probably had to make new costumes for the characters so they could have an excuse to come out with more action figures. Ever since i've heard that the movie was finally being made, i've been extremely interested in it. At first, i was very skeptical because i was unsure of the costumes (yes, i'm sure that's the first thing EVERYONE thought of). But after seeing some of the costumes, all i'm worried about now is the quality of the acting. Ok...first i want to say that i'm not too impressed with Cyclops' costume, though it's not THAT bad. Second, Wolverine's costume(especially the one with the claw thingies) is really sweet. Jackman, though maybe a little tall/skinny for the COMIC VERSION of Wolvie, he looks absolutely perfect. The hair is cool too. And if the reports are true, he can show Wolvies rage with passion(i hope this is true cuz it would be awesome). Mystique is, how shall I say it? ...WOW. (Really looking forward to seeing her whole body..if you know what i mean). I really don't have to say it but Patrick Stewart = Prof. X...no doubt in my mind that he'll be excellent(not only does he look EXACTLY like Prof X, his voice is perfect as well). Ok, i know Toads costume shown here CANNOT be the finished product because it would be laughable next to all the rest(except maybe the pic of Mag/Ian that we've all seen...THAT was a scary pic and i hope that's not his full costume cuz it REALLY sucked). As already mentioned, with the F/X and makeup, he will be fine. As for Sabretooth, i will say that i like it. (Just think of how strange he would look with orange/brown spandex on) In better detail and in action i'm sure that he will be fearsome. And i do agree that the yellow/blue costumes from the comics/cartoon would look kinda foolish and silly in the movie...come on, what good would brightly colored uniforms really do in battle? The darker approach is definitely favorable in my opinion. I only wish that they'd had the sense to put GAMBIT into the film... I mean, he's a cool-ass cajun ass-kicker that throws playing cards, and would be extremely cool in the film. maybe they'll realize the error of their ways and put him in the sequel, along with nightcrawler and iceman, assuming that iceman isn't in this one(hey i'm not guaranteeing N-E-thing but it is rumored that he's in there. Another thing i'm not too sure about in the movie is their decision to make Rogue a teen...(What the hell were they thinking?) Oh well, my fingers are getting tired...so i think i'll stop writing this and just remember...Don't judge a book by its cover, just as don't judge a movie by its costumes(or something) oh hell i'm rambling ok bye now

I have been waiting for this movie all my life. I'm afraid I have to say I agree with the negative reveiws on X-men, though. In fact, all of my friends(X-men loves themselves) stand with me on this. Most of the costumes, with the exception of Mystique, look rather silly and mis-done. The only reason I give Mystique a pass is because I'm easy to please when it comes to a naked blue women(I loved the Smurfs as a kid). HOWEVER, if the sets, writing and especially the cinematography can back up the costume design then this movie will be what the cast and crew want it to be. A damm fine movie!!!.....and that's Point Blank

Okay everybody, calm down. There is nothing we can do now. As we all can see this movie is already in the final stages of production. I strongly believe that no matter how much all of the hard core "fanboys" (stupid nickname! everybody is a fan of something.) such as myself complain or how much the Brian Singer fans praise his ideas, there is nothing anybody can do to pull this movie out of the crapper. It's too late. But we all know that no matter what, we are all going to see it. Just like when I about messed my pants when I heard that Todd McFarlane was doing a Spawn movie and I rushed to the theatre only to leave moments later sobbing. My only hope is that Brian Singer and maybe some executives at Marvel will see some of these e-mails and take some hints. Let's do a quick run-down of Marvel failures for those of you out there that don't remember. Anyone who's anyone who considers him or herself a fanboy/girl remembers the three horrible

Wolverine isn't a short guy in a mask dressed in yellow and blue. He's a man who's gone through hell and is back because the devil couldn't stop him. He's a man who's lost more than anyone I know can even imagine. He's a almost feral warrior who's life is defined by honor, loyalty, and pride. Cyclops isn't some guy wearing fancy eyewear and another suit of yellow and blue. He's a man that has done the impossible many times over. He's the leader of an elite team whose only bond is due to an extra twist in their DNA. He's a man who takes responsibility for everything that happens around him upon himself. Rogue isn't a girl with bicolored hair who wears green and yellow. She's a beautiful young woman but almost everyone around her is terrified of her, she even scares herself. She's one of the most powerful beings on earth, but she cann't even touch those around her. She's a girl that has seen and done a lot of terrible things, but is doing what she can to make amends. I could go on and on. The X-Men aren't defined by their costumes, their defined by their pasts, their powers, their talents and skill, their personalities, their hobbies, etc. The last thing that we should worry about is whether they're wearing Nikes or Doc Martins. Sure the costumes aren't terrific and they aren't terrible, but who cares? The costumes don't make the movie. We have to remember that this movie is about the original organization of the X-Men, and that it has to be comprehendible to all audiences, not just "comic geeks". Listen to what a few people have said, don't pass judgement until you know more. A few bad pictures of unfinished costumes worn in bad poses isn't going to make up my mind as to how good a movie is.

Damn this movie is gonna be so bad, you don't mess with originals, and you just screwed up one of the last pure marvel superheroe team. Where the hell did the black lether come in? What is this, an S&M X-men? I'm 16 and i look old enough to be cyclopses father, whats up with that shit. First of all nobody will read this cause it is at the bottom but o well. If you read the article in the Jan/Feb issue of Cinescape Bryan Singer said everthing that would appear "Cheesy" has been ruled out. Now picture if you will a team of super powered mutants running around in bright colored uniforms in a world like to day. What they are trying to achieve here is a more realistic type of hero, not the heros are real, but to make it more believeable. Personally i agree with whoever said Superman was a true example of a hero, but in a cheesy 70'ish kinda way. I like what i see. And whoever said this moive is going to flop is dead wrong. Get the facts straight man "The Uncanny X-Men" is the most successful comic book series in the history of comics, even more than Superman. If i wasn't aware of this movie till i saw the trailer i would be so syked when i heard about it. Now please wait untill you see the movie to say it sucks.

Who the FUCK are these people. I've waited 20 Years for an X-Men movie and THIS is what I get!!!! I wouldn't mind so much if this was the TV reality where Bill Bixby was David Banner and Lou Farigno The HULK. Although the Thor in those sucked, the rest of it had a sort of cool, real world, super hero quality. I could under stand Daredevil in a black "Snake Eyes" outfit. But this is supposed to be a big budget movie. It's obvious the Rob Liefelds and Todd McFarlens of the superficial "every page a splash page" age of comics have seized control of Hollywood and have decided to fuck up every thing we've grown to love. Have any of these idiot executives gone back and READ X-Men from 94 on at least! Have they every bothered to READ a comic? Or did they just stuff them in a Comic Bag with a non-acid center board to keep the value up? If any X-men should make it to the silver screen it should be the Byrne/Austin/Clairmont X-men that defined the characters and the books. Instead we're getting these X-men inspired knockoffs in a "Batman Movie" world. Hollywood has lost touch with the people they are trying to Entertain, so we get "The X-Men in Black." Or the failed "Leaving Metropolis" Superman. Or Joel Cocksuckers "Gay Dance Party" Batman. Blade was the last good Comic book adaptation, Why? It was in our world, or damn close to it. Why is it that the less known the Comic book hero, the closer to reality they can be. Except for the Donkey Kong Hell in Spawn it was an Okay movie and was true to the character. Spawn's not the greatest material to work with, but it was watchable. I bet Shi will be a good adaptation of the Comic book because the character isn't that well known. Superman, for all its compromises was great. Even Superman IV, which was a lump of crap had more soul than the entire Batman Series. I know I'm going to take flames here, but ALL the Batman's Sucked. I don't want to see an over the top "funny book" world with exotic hero's and villains. I want to see gritty real world where I can believe I might see Jean Grey and Scott Summers in his red glasses skating in Rockefeller Center. Or get the wind knocked out me when I bump into Clark Kent, on his way to report find a News story. I want to wonder if Donald Trump could be Batman in MY world. I want to be connected to the world my comic book hero's come from because like every one else, I need some hero's in MY life, not in my fantasy world. Is the box office on the Extravaganzas so big that they can throw away the long-term core of cult fans? Don't they realize this KILLS a cash cow franchise that could last for generations? I think we need to bring back the Hollywood Musical. That way all the Fags who are destroying our Comic book heor's can go make their Extravaganzas and we can get back stories of good Vs. evil. I'm going to sit down and watch my Bootleg of Roger Corman's "Fantastic Four". As bad as it is, at least it's the FF I know. Not some bastardized re-interpretation of them, and in light of what's been done to the X-men, I bet Dr. Doom's mumbilig will seem a lot better that it did the first time I saw it. As a gorwn man and a "loyal" XMEN fan of 20 years who has been waiting almost 2 decades since rumpours first arose in the early 80's, I must commend Brians depiction of the characters in a more sci-fi approach, as I have always viewed them and the FF cast. After living thru the Hulk, WonderWoman, Spiderman and Doctor Strange or WonderWoman the movie on the 4:30 movie back in the day or the Superman Movie days, I gotta tell you people that you should appreciate the depiction of the Xmen and be appreciative of the fact that the costumes WERE NOT done to the "T" or "Xpectations" of the book. Did you cats see the FANTASTIC FOUR movie. DISGUSTING!!!!! Superman succeeded with the classic costume because he as a character is totally unbelievable. The Xmen have always been frightengly, slightly and questionably believalble. Especially in an age of biological warfare. You cant' make anyone believe in the Xmen, which are more paramilitary, in those rediculously unessesary homo outfits in the book. If I had long ass claws extend from the back of my hands or could shoot blasts that can level the Great Wall and better, why the hell would I go put on a leotard to appear as a dingleberry ballerina. Brian and to the designer, hats off. My own characters in my book (BLACKWORLD, deputing in June 00) wont appear as "nymphs" either. If you did the classis costumes you would've been hung either way. These are fical fake fans. Take it from a true one. Everyone, all together now....SHUT THE HELL UP, and enjoy the film because I can't hear over all the noise.

That's how you get distracted and killed! If you had balls you would have invariable had one slip out of your jockies once and know the unimaginable pain of fixing your croch. Now imagine doing that with some freak throwing a gas tanker at you with his magnetic powers. They would probably HAVE to form the Justice Leauge just to keep them selves in war surplus clothes. I'm sure your book will do great. There's an endless supply of Dumb ass punks who have never been in a real fight, and have no respect for traditon. Why don't you make your book 4 quadruple sized posters with no story whatsoever! Then you won't have to bothered with a pesky plot and story line.

Arrgh! I'm not asking for everyone to be running around in tights made of unstable molecules, but could they have at least tried to ADAPT the costumes and looks in the comics? You know, like Tim Burton's Batman movies different but the same as Mr. Miyagi told Fonzie when he wanted to date Pinkie Tuscadaro. The bad guys looked good. Sabretooth was excellent. Mystique was awesome. Professor X with cerebro on his head looked good. But was Cyclops going scuba diving or what? And is Wolvie wearing a stil-suit from Dune? I have no problem with people wanting to be critics, but when you start putting down a movie based on a few promotional snapshots, to me thats not critisism thats just complaining and whining about something they haven't even seen yet. I'm sorry but there is no way that people can say that a movie is going to bomb based an what we have seen so far. There are some things that I have seen that I don't agree with, but I am willing to wait for the movie before I pass judgement on what I thought about it. I just think that it is reasonable that others do the same. Its just unfortunate that they won't do that.

Me personally, whatever opinion I have about the movie weather it's good or bad I'll see the movie! I think that we all have a different feel of what the XMEN are to us, but we all agree on one thing...WE DON'T WONT THE MOVIE TO BE A DAMN SHAME! I'm sure most of us would love to help out the casting and directing crew of the movie, but were not. Makes me wonder if they should have left it to the animation like that of the final fantasy movie. Lets not get crazy tho and save the hating for after the movie:) and hope that they learn from what ever mistake they make.

I've been an X-men fan forever and a day, and when the curtains open on this show.. I'll be there! In the front row, popcorn in hand, READY to support a great ideal, but let's face it... The pictures of the costumes do not excite me. I want this movie to work as much as any true fan, but to tell you the truth, they should not have picked such a dark and foreboading look for our favourite mutants! The X-men are not about the dark things in life, their about hope! These characters where created to send a message of Love and understanding, they are a group of exciles who WERE thrown together under imposibable circustances, YET have the strength within themselves to except there differences and try to create a better world for themselves and others. They are characters to which, can look past hatred and see the light of the future, yet to come. In a way, I guess the ideas of comicbook simply known as the X-men are the very embodiement of what it is to be human! I'm no X-Men fan but the costumes, no matter how preliminary they are or were, look pretty bad... It's like the Spiderman script, maybe in these instances the Studios should leave all scripts and design to the comic book writers and if they want, leave it a little open for rewrites etc later on... I don't know who they got to make these designs but they look like second rate Batman costumes, and those designs are as good as 12 years old...hmmmm....

Cormorant, I'm so glad to know that someone else appreciates the two best superhero movies ever made. Superman is the--THE--only superhero movie to tell the story of a superhero in a truly epic way. No other superhero movie has captured the magic like that (though the first Batman tried hard). Rocketeer had the magic, if not quite the delivery. But yeah--Superman. Until someone's willing to tell a superhero story with that kind of reverence, and heart, comic movies will always be seen as a joke. (Or they'll have to gain respect by coming at the comic-book angle in indirect ways, like The Matrix--which really did kick some serious ass.)

The Black Costumes the X-Men wear in this particular up and coming movie are not that bad. In my opinion the mass majority of Non-X-Men Fans could only accept them this (my opinion) more toned down way. The bright color uniforms could have been created and designed to look good like the comic book, but I just am not convinced that with this being the potential blockbuster it will be that you can chance it (yet). In X-Men 2 perhaps we can get away from the black leather costumes and try the colored ones. Although, Hugh Jackman does not have my envisionment of Wolverines (Comic Book physique), but at least he looks like Logan and hopefully has acting ability to make the part seem real. In this case I think acting is more important than having all the muscles and bright costumes just yet. Building credibility with a non-X-Men based mass audience is lot harder than many people think. This movie has such a wide and rich character base and each character has so many unique and special attributes that realistically speaking there is no way no one man or filming crew could capture every individuals exact ideal X-Men. I think the movie will be great to most (80%) of X-Men fans and (90%) of the mass audience that are not X-Men fans. The bottom line is that the masses have to accept the movie and their priority goes first with this kind of a 70 million $$$$$ budget. I am just glad that the X-Men movie is going to be made and will have X-cellent special affects. Black uniforms are better for stealth at night anyway.

I've heard the hype, I've seen the postings, but really, with what movies are doing today, and the special effects involved in this one inparticular, it's gonna rock big-time!! just look at the franchise, even if the movie does suck ass it's still gonna make a friggin killing at the box office, but it can't suck as bad as the shadow or spawn. those pretty much sucked. we all saw how blade did, one of the other movies that made the MARVEL name stand out in glory. truthfully, pictures don't do much for the look of the characters but i think live action will be just fuckin awesome!!!

This is really disappointing. Any true fan of the X-Men, present or past, could see the lameness of these costumes. I am so sick of these films that totally destroy the beloved images of superheros. What's the problem? Is there a rule that no one can direct a super hero movie if they have read the titles? What does it take to get a director with a modicum of loyalty to the original concepts of the characters? How could they do this to X-Men? How?

Okay, this is all just fine and dandy that we got this great new x-men movie coming out... hooray hooray. Just one question though.... WHERE THE HELL IS GAMBIT? They left out my favorite x-man and a very (in my mind at least) important one at that! What? There wasn't an actor who could play him well enough? Oh well, maybe if the movie gets a decent soundtrack it will be worth salvaging. None of this Third Eye Blind and Smash Mouth teenie bopper crap. I say get some Pantera and Korn on there.

Well.. Some things are good but... Im happy they finally decided to do an X-Men movie, been reading them since the 70's. However, I wish that just once, these studio hotshots and so-called creative geniuses would stop killing a winning combination. NONE of the costumes look like X-Men, the familiar looks have been replaced with "updated" 90's styles, which plainly suck. Toad is way too skinny, logan looks too young and reminds me of something out a bad remake of west side story. They seem to have left out some of the key characters. And by the way, Mystique does not have darker blue spots on her head. I was waiting for this movie to be made for years and now I doubt I will even bother seeing it. Seems that Marvel si getting lax on who they let do their movies. Hell, that made for TV movie movie a few years back had better costuming. My comment is pretty much, "WHAT WERE THESE IDIOTS THINKING!?!?!?!" comments of an intelligent nature welcome.

I am in a state of mixed feelings about the whole costume issue regarding the X-Men movie. On the one hand, something more akin to the source material would have been quite agreeable, but at the same time, if all you want out of this movie is a costume party, perhaps your expectations are a bit stilted. I would much rather sacrifice "authentic" costumes for a good story and a worthwhile film that may spawn others (ever see a bootleg copy of the Fantastic Four film? It had accurates costumes and NOTHING else!). I think thought the naysayers here are balking at the costumes seen at this point you have to realize that these are publicity photos and may not reflect the attire of the entire film. Perhaps they do, but regardless I would hope to find more in this movie than just a bunch of great costumes. You can go to a comic convention (if you don't live in the DFW area in Texas like I do where we don't have them any more, but that's another story)and get your fill of authentic costumes. And quite frankly if you've ever seen someone dressed up as any number of comic characters, brightly colored and accurate, you soon find the limitations of going from the comic book to reality. A lot of these costumes in the comics (where anything is possible) don't translate well into the real world, repleat whith physical limitations and limited materials choices. The bottom line is this: Bear in mind that this is an innaugural film. It has great potential to be the springboard for more, as the first Batman film was, despite its many detractors (some of us remember this scenerio only too well). The X-Men enjoy perhaps one of the largest fan bases of any comic around, but being a comic fan and a realist, don't forget that no matter how large a following they have within comic fandom, those who have little to no knowledge and/or interest in the X-Men in the general public almost certainly outnumber that fan base 100 to 1. You should count yourselves lucky that after all these years someone is making an X-Men movie and at least having a go at making it worthwhile. The shot of Professor X reflects a faithful knowledge of the source materials that so many of you seem to have looked right through. The Fantastic Four and Captain America met their film debuts with much less care and attention.

while i must admit that the costumes have me a bit apprehensive, especially after having seen the generation x made-for-tv movie, i'm not going to talk about that right now. blade did just fine in the costume he had. i would like to request that somebody who matters will contact singer and advise him to procure a few hundred x-title comics, and sit down to read them with the entire cast an crew. let them see what this project is all about. when you look at the old superman, hulk, and spiderman live-actions, you get the impression that this was exactly what those people did. while allowances were made, and mistakes abundant, it was obvious that the people knew what the characters were all about, and that no matter what direct they took the story in, the portrayal would remain true. the fact remains that when you see chris reeves in the outfit, you see superman. years after this film's debut, when these people put on the suits(again, disregard what the suits look like), will you see the x-men? that became the one redeeming factor of capt. america and the fantastic four. and it was what killed the spawn film. when i look at the man(who's name escapes me right now) in the suit, i see rubber and latex, not the iconoclastic zombie in the infathommable costume. or the trademark suffocating atmosphere. i saw a movie studio and men making cgi's. what's important is the feeling you get when you watch the movie. not only is it true to the source material(batman was a great movie by tim burton, butit wasn't batman the comic), but does it draw you into the same kind of world that you entered when you were young and fell asleep reading your favorite comic? if the director and the stars have never been to that world, then no great amount of visuals and superior cinematic skill will allow the movie to accomplish it's purpose. or, this could just be another shameless attempt by a hollywood that is as close to it's audience as a detached retina, who sees us only as consumers. the same hollywood that produced utter shit like godzilla and the last two batman movies, that were blatantly no more than glorified commercials for toys and cheap merchandise. now i'm done.

Why does Hollywood insist on ruining all of Marvel's exceptional characters? I loved the X - Men comic and the cartoon. Why do the big studio suits feel the need to tamper with the designs of the character? Toning down Wolvie's unique hairdo is like giving Goku of Dragonball Z a buzz cut! And Sabretooth! The promotional pic doesn't look anything like the comic book character! He looks like a stringy haired biker! I hate to say this but the only good cating call was Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto. I quite personally think the characters should have some ort of costume design that looks like the comic like Sabretooth for instance. Yet again I have to agonize over the fact that Hollywood has yet again insufficiently researched the looks of the characters they hope to bring to the screen. If I were in charge of this movie I would listen to the fans as well as the sounds of box office receipts. I can't understand what was wrong with the looks of the characters in the comic books!

seems like everyone is very much attached to their notions of x-men. nitpicking on details such as lameness of costumes or hairstyle. while some criticism may be valid, the current consenting opinion seems to be sourced from myopic fanaticism. bryan singer's x-men movie is merely an interpretation of x-men, an adaptation. much as the 90's version of romeo and juliet attempts to contemporalize shakespeare, the new x-men movie promises a more adult and mature perspective. gone are bright gold and blue childish costumes. replacing them are darker, more dc/vertigo-esque threads. it is clear that this new x-men movie is not just a trivial action movie. from the casting of shakespearean actors such as patrick stewart and sir ian mckellan, x-men will attempt to explore deeper and loaded issues than the simple evil versus good story. a movie that will only appeal the hardcore fanatic will not offer anything new and fresh to the world of superheroes and fantasy. if the story, if the interpretation is successful. and if x-men promises to a serious look in human nature, then the costume becomes irrelevant. what matters is going to be how bryan singer reinvents these characters in way which remain true the essence of their comic book alter-egos. creating a film adaption which is verbatim to the comic book version is both uninteresting, and involves a lack of thinking and moving forward. in applause of these new costumes, of this new interpretation, i urge x-men fans of old and young to examine the core and underlying elements of x-men. rather than basing criticism on superficial and somewhat irrelevant topics such as costuming, please take a look at x-men ideology, the messages, it portray. once identifying these core ideals, base your criticism on whether the new costumes are fitting with x-men principles. no one will know if this movie is going to be disaster until the movie finally hits. hopefully, the movie will offer more to the imagination than line by line duplicate of the comic book.

When I first saw the actors that would star in the x-men movie, my first reaction was it was not going to live up to the stan lee x-men comic books. Then I search high and low to fine pictures of the stars that I did not know in the role they were going to play and I have to say that I agree with the characters of Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Logan, sabertooth, Toad (to some degree)and Charles Xavier. I do not agree with the actors they selceted to play maneto or Rouge. The actor playing maneto is to old to undertake such a diverse role of a mad in statue and physic and the actress playing Rogue is too young to give the character of Rogue, the charamsa and spunk it it deserves. I also do not agree with the young actors that are going to play Bobby Drake, or Kittie pryde. In addition, the clothing that are provided for these character does not represent Charles Xavier vision of the X-Men. In the x-men 30- something year no memeber of the x-men team as ever worn leather according to my knowledge. The clothing does not even look like a knock off of the martix, but something that just been put together in a rush just to get the movie to start filming. I am really dispointed in the person who designed this collection because it shows that they have never read a x-men comic book in their life. I am saving my opinion of the movie until July 14th because I hope the story line overcomes the bad clothing as well as the miss case actors in the end.Then and only then will my opinion change. Hmmm.... well kudos to Harry for scoring the pics (or whoever if you were to believe some of the earlier postings, here. shrugs). And hmmm.... the costumes do look rather Schumacher-Batmanish in the dark sculpted pleather outfits. It's ok, I suppose, though couldn't they have tried something closer to the original ones in the comic? Yes, adjustments are needed to convert to the live-action format, but don't reject the mold entirely. At least include the X-logo on the costume! They are supposed to be a _team_ after all. Cyclops looks fairly accurate, but the optics echo shades of ST's LaForge's giant metallic hair barrette. And as for Wolverine, good match-up facially, though did they have to use such a stiff pose? Wolverine's supposed to look like one wild, kick-ass, motherfucker who thinks, "I'm gonna kill somebody, and I'm gonna ENJOY it!" Hmmm... hopefully seeing him in action will be an improvement. No comments on Toad since not that familiar with that character. Mystique's makeup job is par excellence, and Professor X is dead-on. Come on, nobody but Patrick Stewart is as much a dead ringer for Xavier. Well, here's hoping they'll work all the kinks out before the premiere later this year. And for those who say that comic books are dead cuz nobody can do them like the original comic concepts, got just two words for ya. KEVIN SMITH!

There is no way that a "more accurate" potrayal would be successful at the box-office. Just think of how stupid all that yellow and blue would look on the big screen. Besides, the X-Men aren't about the costumes --- they have a powerful message about anti-prejudice that is being portrayed perfectly in the movie. And trust me - the first time you see Wolverine's claws unsheath, you will be hooked.

I would like to address some comments made by people who said that the costume issue is not important. It is people. Would you like it if they made a movie about your favorite music group, sports figure, T.V. show etc. and made them look like something you know doesn't remotely represent who they are portraying a accurately as possible? For example, would you like to see a toned down imitation of Marilyn Manson played by a preppie actor like Leo Dicaprio of the life of Tupac Shakur played by a white guy? I didn't think so. That is how we X - Men fans feel about the comic book we grew up on. To be treated to a toned down version of superhero's who literally became an incredibly profitable franchize equal to Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman etc. Would you change the colors of Superman's costume? Would they take Batman's cowel away and give him a mask like Robin's? You could not think of seeing those icon any other way. The same is true with the X - Men. You can't tone down their powers. That is what makes them superheroes. If you don't like a bright yellow or blue keep the color, jut make it darker or use a metallic gold vinyl material. That would look cool on film. There are other colors besides black. I think costumes for superheroes have been in a "black" out period. There's too much black material being used in cotume designs today. We don't need a '60's style Batman series type look. We just want faithful costume designs and a little variety of color. That' all we ever asked for concerning the X - Men. I hope that you all undertand a little bit of the Fan Boy and Fan Girl mentality. I welcome any replies. Thank you.

Okay, I hear all of the fanboy's crying into their blankies at night because the X-men costumes arent true to form. I have been reading X-men for 12 years, and frankly, I like the costumes. Superman's costume worked because it was very simple, and Superman was simply more of a well-known character. The X-men costumes are not quite as simple, and Marvel needed to make something that would be accessible not only to comic book fans, but to everyone. Yes, maybe the Matrix look is a little trendy, but it will help attact crowds unfamiliar with the X-men and possible open the door to even more comic booc-based movies. So stop your whining and just accept it. From what ive seen, I think they are doing a great job.

Street fighter the movie with Jean Claude Van Dame proves my point because they stayed pretty faithful to the videogame franchise as far as costumes went and look at how stupid the characters looked. Even if they had a good script the movie still would have been cheesy due to those gawdy costumes. I prefer molded rubber like the Batman costumes or embroidered vinyl. A perfect stitch with foam padding can lend a look of a muscular physique. When you transfer a comic book character to real life, how the hell can you put tights with underwear over their clothing on them? We've all seen the pictures, but has anyone seen a trailer yet? Nope. You havn't, have you? I can't foretell what the movie will be like any more than you will. When Lucasfilm had some of the first shots of the tanks and settings for Episode 1, there was no way I could picture or imagine what the end product would be. As far as "unknown" actors go, is there an actor out there that was instantly recognized, from birth? I don't think so! I'm not saying this movie will bomb or be a blockbuster, but did anyone believe Christopher Reeves would be a great Superman? Or how about all the skepticism about Michael Keaton's portrayal of Batman? (which turned out to be awesome) not to mention Jack Nickolson as the Joker. Meanwhile, such "Big Name" stars like Schwarzenegger and Clooney didn't bring anything to the characters. Heck, I love Episode 1, but Liam Neeson's acting was a little dry. The ferocity in Ray Parks' face was better "acting" than most of Qui-Gonn's lines. Back to the X-Men movie, there is no way we can judge it, so we might as well hope for the best, because not everyone is going to love the costumes or the people in them, but it's still the X-men!!! If anyone thinks for a second that the man behind "Usual Suspects" would foul this up, then go ahead, wait in anguish until the movie comes out. It's just a movie, and it's not something that will define or re-write 30+ years of a good comic book. And by the way, if you've read Ian McKlellan's website, Magneto will have several different "costumes" so what makes you think the X-men will be wearing that one same costume for the WHOLE movie, eh? I think we're all in for a surprise, along the way :-) That black costume could be just a training costume for all we know. Besides, Wolvie always gets his costume shredded. I agree with most of the thoughts about the Toad's pose, but I'm sure ALOT of post production CGI work will be done to add special effects. The standards are much higher due to the recent movies like Matrix and Ep:1 and I doubt Singer will settle for a less-than-frantic pace of combat and action. So, anyways, I guess we'll just have to see won't we? Till then...

This guy is THE X-man, and that is the best costume they came up with...shit; the toughest guy and he comes out with that shit. Give him a manacure and he'll look like the best he-bitch. Toad; I don't even wanna go there. Mystique...I gotta admit, that is a good costume, probably the best one in the whole movie. Sabretooth looks about as scarey as a care bear. This guy is tougher than wolverine and he's got hair like a girl....newsflash; Sabretooth has shorter hair than that. I would have personally liked it if they just wore the costumes they wear in the comics...it's probably the best thing to do. Or, since it's the first movie, why not make the original X-men costumes. I'm still anxious to see the movie, but the comments I made could REALLY help making it a better hit. IT'S THE X-MEN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

I actually think the costumes are OK. Would you honestly prefer exact copies of the comic book costumes? Take a look at the Superman movies or the old Adam West Batman series and tell me how anyone could possibly take an adamantium-claws-berserker-bal lerina seriously. I think Cyclops and Sabretooth both look pretty damn cool, Patrick Steward IS Professor X, and the women, oh, don't even get me started on the women. I bet once the optic blasts and lightning start flying and the claws start slicing we'll all be cheering.

Ok. One thing that has only been brought up by a couple of people that I think is paramount to making this movie great is the ability of these actors to CONVINCE US TOTALLY that they are who they are portraying -- how well they can act. This movie will be awesome b/c the cast will do such a good job of convincing us they are who they say they are: Stewart and McKellan are renowned actors -- there is no doubt to their abilities. Hugh Jackman is a famous professional THEATRE actor . The actress playing Rogue (I can't remember her name) won an Academy Award for Pete's sake! Halle Berry (spelled right?) is a seasoned actress herself so is Jean's actress. *We saw how well Ray Park convinced us he was a bad ass in Ep1. The only weak links are 1) Tyler Mane and MAYBE 2) the Cyclops actor I can tell you they will do such a good job convicing us they are the X-men it won't matter WHAT they wear! All I need to hear is any of the characters say ONE cool line that they would say in the comics and goosebumps will appear!!! Theatre actors have to intensify their performances b/c they have to be heard in the audience and they need to maintain audience interest. Besides, theatre is generally more dramatic. Worvewine is ALL about being dramatic. I have total confidence in Jackman to impress me with his attention to detail and even to scare me a bit when Wolverine gets mad. I am a huge fan boy since early 80's and I have no issues w/ the costumes. For the real X-men fans out there it won't matter, all we want to see is what makes Wolverine on the screen... his badass ways, his don't take no shit from anyone attitude, his temper... these things are what Wolverine IS the costume doesn't matter. Wolverine fought in all sorts of threads. WHY? BECAUSE Wolverine can change his clothes everyday in the comic books, but he can't change his attitude, or his temper, etc. The costume doesn't make Wolverine... WOLVERINE MAKES WOLVERINE!!!! THIS APPLIES TO ALL THE OTHERS AS WELL. I have total confidence in Hugh Jackman and the rest of the cast to show me WOLVERINE, and STORM, ROGUE... etc. By the way, Throughout the years artists who have drawn X-men have taken some artistic liberties--they have drawn them differently. We didn't lose our commitment to the X-men when they changed looks and costumes in the comics... so why can't we follow them with those changes into the medium of film?

My opinion of the costumes... I can't imagine anything ELSE was possible. A point that is very important to all of this -- there are about 20 people in this world that have the PHYSIQUE that the X-men have now, and none of them are actors! Arnold, maybe... MAYBE... He is the only one that can make the tights work. But honestly, I think if I saw Arnold (pretend he's Warpath or something) running arounf in tights, fighting, or even just standing there in thights, I would not take any of whats happening in the movie seriously!! It's funny to think of that now! And no, it wouldn't work if we cast all the buff actors from Hollywood in this... we all know that. If acting wasn't an issue to a MOVIE we could go to bodybuilding competitions and pick them from there. Now everyone is thinking Superman, what about Superman? Well, when that movie came out the comic book Superman wasn't as huge and as cut as he is now. Granted he was somewhat built but not like the Jim Lee 0% body fat and perfect shape bodies with painted on tights. ( 2nd ) He was also ONE GUY. You can get away with one guy having the akward comic costume, but an entire team like the X-men with their different bright colors competing for attention on camera is just an elementary mistake in film composition. MAN! What are you arguing about? The whole point is: OK, so the moviemaker-pussies didn't wanted to use the original clothing. Yup, that's fine. But WHAT they did, then? Did they tried to do something both COOL and ORIGINAL, and that resembled about WHAT is the movie about? NO! THEY DIDN'T! They simply invented anything else so they could stop worrying about it. How can you defend such a horrible masacre of what could and should have been a stellar movie. Aside from Prof X, the characters look like garbage, I don't understand why instead of cloth suits all comic dudes have to have fake rubber suits, Batman was a good movie but his suit was a little weird, especially in Batman IV when they felt the need to screw with it. Why can't they get a director who transfers a comic to the movies, not add his own shitty artistic spin. I mean Punisher sucked ass, it made no sense, and the costumes blew. How can you say change the costumes, the costumes ARE the X-Men, I want to see a short, built Wolverine in a yellow suit kicking ass, not some skinny piece of crap who doesn't look like he could take a midget let alone a fucking supervillan, and why the hell aren't Cyclops' goggles bigger? he looks like that shitty dude from Star Trek. It certainly is looking like they completely mother-fuckered this one up. Comic books turned movies have a sorry-ass track record, largely due to the fact that.... they're comic books, silly. The writing is never very good to begin with. It's like having a retard design cars for Mercedes... regardless of how well they can make cars, if they're inspired by a piece of shit, the finished product won't be too hot. Don't argue with this one, you'll just come off looking like a moped. I used to read comics non-stop, but seriously, they are the quintessence of a guilty pleasure, just a little less embarassing to admit than an internet porn addiction. I am definitely looking forward to the movie (as I have for the past 5 years). I also dig the up-to-par costumes the characters are wearing. What I don't understand and completely disagree to is the heros/heroines they chose to have in the movie!!!!! I don't understand why they would waste precious money on special effects with mutants that aren't as important (especially Jubilee!!!!) I am dreading the fact that the first pick of mutants were not the ORIGINALS!!!! It would be more appropriate--especially to those who are new to the comics! I will mourn for the loss of screen time for Beast, Angel, and Iceman!!! And since they are adding new characters,that's where Storm, Rogue, Wolverine and the familiar others can fall in!...instead of making up stupid no-name mutants, like Bobby and John out of the blue! X-cellent special FX and it was MADE-FOR-TV. The X-Men movie is just that MADE-FOR-THE-BIG-SCREEN X-spect good fight scenes, X-spect some "Comic-Like" Speech and scenes, and most of all X-spect to feel like a "Kid" reading the ol' comic again. I agree on that comment made about the costumes, Who the HELL would wanna see wolvie jump up out of nowhere, in a BRIGHT YELLOW spandex suit and say, "It's just you and me bub, Lets do this." Like that would actually scare anyone or anything? Geeez, a black leather padded suit looks better and if memory serves me correctly (which it always does) ol' Wolvie had a Black Leather Suit in the comics at one time. I saw the action figure which proves it. :-P Now for the rest of the bashings I've sat here and read for the past 4 hours... Everyone is bitching about the movie, but the simple fact is you will all go and see it, Fox will make a mint, you will all leave the theatre complaining more than before you went in, and then you will all come back to this page and write bad reviews of it. I've seen the trailer, I've seen the pics and I've read your comments. I don't think the movie looks all bad, if it captures the spirit of what the underlying message in the comic is (racism, intolerance, etc.) it will still be a good story, the special effects should be great and only one character was really miscast (Wolverine is a 5'2" harry pissed-off cigar-smoking, beer-drinking ultimate warrior from Canada who is built like a brick out-house/ Hugh Jackman is a 6' Australian guy with no muscle)besides this obvious and stupid mistake, for $75 million the action alone should make it worth sitting through.

(I mean the X-men aren't the X-men with out a Beast or a Nightcrawler right? But we wouldn't know that if we had never read it.) I understand why every one is getting pissy, and it's their right. I just think that if we go into it not wanting to like it,we won't. I will however add my own bitch: I WANT A NIGHTCRAWLER In the movie!

I think the costumes look great,I have been a marvel - x men fan for some time and i think they did an excellent job on them.I think people need to get back to reality a little,i think they made the costumes and actors as close as they could to the comics,some people just have high standards thats all,but great work,the movie was excellent and hopefully the sequels will be just as fantastic as the first,keep up the good work guys

I no im gettin in to this topic early but there r some things i would like to suggest to makeing good sequels.Im sure u guys no what ur doing and u don't wanna hear it, but i wanna tell u guys a some stuff from a fans perspective.When making the sequels if u have any characters continuing to the next movie,hopefully u can get the same actors to play the roles,i think it is very bad when u have a new actor taking the role of a once played character,in movies such as bond and batman,Im not tryin to start nuthin but i think it suxs when u have a new actor playing a character who was already played by someone,and u should start ur sequel from where the other movie left off,like does sabretooth and toad live and leave the water in revenge? does magneto retrieve their bodies and bring them back to life? or u can just get right back into the movie of how mystique makes it possible for magneto to escape and he finds/creates more mutants to get revenge on the x men,ok enough of that stuff,for the upcoming sequels new characters,I think for the x men-nightcrawler,beast,gambit, jubilee,and possibly morph wolverines friend who can change in people like mystique but differently, cause he would put a good twist in the movie,and for bad guys,maybe characters such as suaron -the flying terradactil guy,(excuse the spelling)cyber- a brutish character who even wolverine fears for his strength and insanity,omega red,mr.sinister,and maybe shiva,well these r just some ideas i thought i would share with u guys,if u go by any of them make sure u go by sticking with the same actors for characters already played and i think u guys will be just fine,and it would be kinda kool if u used some of those mutants i listed,well ill say it again i luved the x men movie,and i pray the sequels will be just as good,keep up the good work

I would just like to compliment the producer in his taste of actors and actresses,he picked beautiful good looking actresses who played their roles very well and fit the character profiles nicely,and the actors were good at portraying their roles as well,i thought they all did good,i am also a fan of Ray Park,which i also liked to see him in the movie,the producer selected all good actors which gave him a great edge on the movie,i can't wait to see what new actors will be in the upcoming sequel,i hope the producer sticks with good actors for the roles,the last ones to me were a success,and yes i would like to say I am a movie fanatic,well i'll give it all a rest for now,lol,later

I can't believe it ! I'm fan of x-men, i'm fan of marvel comics, i've waited for 15 years for this film. And when they finally are able to make it, and they make it FINE, YOU integrist are worrying about costumes ? YOU are worrying about actors ? And you just don't have seen it for now... Now, some of you have seen it ? How do you find it ? They made some changes, but it's necessary. The costume would have been really bad in 2D if they were keeped like the original comic... Cyclops said it to Wolverine "you would have prefered a yellow one ?" Ouch ! They made some changes to people. Bobby Drake is one of the first X-men, but he is in the film a young student... And what's up with that !!! They just used him because he is an interesting one, like Kitty Pride. But they just can't have put all the characters in a 2 hour film ! They put the beloved one, those for which fans would see the film : storm, cyclop... and of course the true HERO is wolverine !!! Because he is the most beloved at all ! This film is GREAT... And you stupid guys are just killing me with those critics !

Okay people time for you to stop BITCHIN!!!! i happen to be a BIG X-men fan and i loved the movie.And you people who are complaining about Toad need to shut it! Toad happens to be one of the original bad guys. That is the reason he is in this film!And I think that Ray Park did an awesome job as Toad. I think he really turned Toads character into a wall-crawling,superkicking, leapfrogging,togue-flinging maniac! I love Ray Park!!!! He has an amazing talent of physical and acting abilities. DON'T DISS THE TOAD!!!! Next i want to say something about the costumes.... sure they aren't the original but come on people.... some of those would have looked ridiculous! Especially Jean Grey's. And quit complaining about how some of the characters weren't in this movie. Hello?! Don't you people know that this is going to be a trilogy? They can't just introduce all of the characters at one time! They didn't do that in the comics or in the tv show now did they? Anyway.... bottom line, this movie got three stars and a B in the ratings, I know that most of you people who wrote those complaints ended up liking the movie. Oh and P.S.- I LOVE YOU RAY PARK!!!! Sincerly, Mandy aka Toad and Rays Girl....
