This sounds like it'll be good. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm glad Jim Carrey's laying off the sreious stuff for awhile. Truman and Man on the Moon were both not nearly as good as they should have been, in my opinion.

I'm glad to hear Forster's in this- he's so underrated, and that Oscar nomination didn't seem to help him as much as it should. I like Forster so much I actually THOUGHT ABOUT going to see Supernova. Yeah, that thought lasted about fifteen, maybe twenty seconds. Long gone, though....

I love all Jim Carrey movies so far and I love Farelly brothers movies, I think I will like this a lot. Hell, I will love it. All movies have flaws, so I wouldn't worry. Oh, and all those who will now say how they're so sick of people saying that Carrey deserves an Oscar just because he didn't get it for Truman, KEEP IT!! JUST SHUT UP!! YOU HAVE MADE YOUR POINT A THOUSAND TIMES!!! JUST SHUT UP ABOUT IT! He'll get it, anyway.

I never realy cared for these kind of movies. Something about Mary was alright but not hillarious. Dumb and Dumber though was very good. Perhaps Carey can, again, bring something good to this film and these directors. They'd probably be lost without him. Cheers

I too am getting sick of all the talk of how carrey was screwed last year for not getting nominated. I liked The Truman Show, solid film and Carrey was good but WTF was so challenging about it, I just don't get it. And i'm sick of people saying Jim carrey "is" Andy Kaufman, Are we talking about the same Andy Kaufman? MOTM was a very thin and shallow biopic. Offering nothing new on Kaufman. Half the film is recreations of things we've seen already and he merely does an impression of Kaufman, not a real performance. BTW I also thought Something About Mary was vastly overrated.

I like the Farrely Brothers. They aren't exactly the Coen Brothers or Mel Brooks they would like to be, but they are very funny guys. Their movies' plots are paper thin, but they work because they're funny. Describe THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY and wonder why it works. But it does. This should be good. I would like to see Carrey in a comedy again. THE TRUMAN SHOW was a phenomenal movie, but I don't think Jim made it such. He had a great performance in MOTM, but I think he belongs in comedy. KICK HIS ASS, SEABASS!
Me, Myself & THE IRON GIANT

Split personality disorder is an interesting reoccurring theme in great many films. In this case it is effectively used for comedy. This will be a nice change from THE IRON GIANT that delved into the more serious aspects of such a condition. One of the preconditions of all temporal life is duality. And unless one can reconcile the paradox of dualism, a split occurs. In Carreys case it would seem that over time, external forces evoked his Id to be more prevalent in situations of tension and conflict. This is similar to what happened to THE IRON GIANT when confronted by the apparent death of Hogarth. Rather then dealing with the pain, misery and suffering of life and affirming it, THE GIANT regresses to that of a droid, operating without any feeling or compassion. A destroyer. The same with Carrys character as well. His Charlie persona will be a joyless incomplete human. So it is through the affirmation of the suffering of life that one strikes an accord with our inherent duality. THE IRON GIANT accomplished this; Let

Hey, I don't know if any of you guys feel the same way, but I consider Dumb and Dumber a modern comedy classic. It's just perfect. The performances by Carrey AND Jeff Daniels are great and memorable. The writing is great, and the plot works. The Farrely Bros. always have something more in their movies that kind of elevate them above the level of Adam Sandler movies. In Kingpin, it was a character names Roy Munson, that had a realistic and interesting human story. Something About Mary also had a good, solid character who has never quite gotten over a past love. It sounds weird associating these human stories with Farrely Bros. movies, but that's what I get out of them. Still, Dumb and Dumber is my favorite out of the three that they have directed, because it's a dumb comedy with smart writing behind it. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Me, Myself, and Irene. I'm going to make sure this is the only review I read, and that I see it opening day, because if it is indeed one of the most popular movies this summer, the studio is going to give away every funny moment in the film. Same thing happened to American Pie. The Thinker

Call me lowbrow, but "Jim Carey trying to pee with morning wood and spending five minutes trying to put a road kill out of its misery" just made me laugh out loud. Can't wait for J.C. to get back to the funny stuff. His performance in Man on the Moon was great, but the movie as a whole was pretty uninvolving.

This guy's expecting a "classic along the lines of Raising Arizona or Big Lebowski" one day from the fucking Farrellys? I think their movies are hilarious, but I don't think they're capable of the ingenious sight gags and word play of the Zucker Brothers, let alone the referentialism or cinematic brilliance of the Coen Brothers. The Coen Brothers aren't just funny, they are two of the most inventive filmmakers of modern times. The Farrellys aren't anywhere near this type of work, but if they can do something that approaches the level of "Top Secret" or "The Naked Gun", that's impressive enough for me.

Bad idea. Smashmouth has already murdered War's classic "Why Can't We Be Friends," please don't let them touch the Dan. They haven't the talent.

Carrey is fucking awesome I don't care what people or the critics think. I personally hope he gets at least nominated for his role in Man on the Moon since the academy ignored him for The Truman Show. He problably won't win it but its good to know he's appreciated.

I don't know why Jim Carrey feels the need for the so-called "valadity" of what a bunch of Hollywood Old-Timers think of him. It is an essentially meaningless accolade (did Speilberg really need to win for Schindler's List to be any good)? I only watch because it's funny to see the forced smiles on the faces of the losers (or as the Academy would probably prefer, "non-winners"). Otherwise it's a bit like a high stakes episode of "Star Search". When you consider that Martin Scorcese has yet to win an Oscar, I think it proves how worthless the "honor" really is.
The Script

If the screenplay is any indication, this movie's going to be HUGE. This is one of the funniest things I ever read from beginning to end. To the reviewer, I'm sure what you saw was a work print, and all those things'll be fixed between now and June. The black dialogue however, was a wee bit stereotypical, and unless they changed it, I believe alot of people are going to be offended.
don't confuse comedy with acting

I've been hearing all these "just because Jim Carrey doesn't do dramas doesn't mean he's not a great actor". Well beign a great comedian doesn't make you a great actor. It doesn't even necessarily mean you're a great comedic actor...Woody Allen is really funny and I wouldn't necessarily call him a great actor (although he does have 1 more best actor nomination than Carrey does). Adam Sandler, who makes a lot of people laugh, isn't a great actor. Some people here are insulted that we seem to be disqualifying Jim Carrey from the "Actor's Club" because he's funny. I'm insulted by putting him in the same league as Cary Grant, a great comedic actor. The goal of acting is to flesh out and bring to life a written character. I don't think that Carrey necessarily does this, and although I enjoyed him in Man on the Moon, I'd have to agree with thouse who say it was more of an imitation than a performance. Perhaps that's because the real Andy Kaufman was a hard guy to know, or perhaps it's because Carrey didn't really make us give a shit who listened to or appreciated Kaufman, or care whether or not he would survive. I hope they get someone better to play Bill Hicks when they decide to make a biopic about the real god of anti-establishment comedy/social criticism/human enlightenment.

First off Lazarus, burn in hell for even suggesting Hollywood do a Hicks biopic. You know they'd fuck it up- Forman's totally lost his ability to do it, and at best we'd probably get something like Lenny (shudder). Second- the Farrelly brothers are TERRIBLE filmmakers. I'm not denying there are funny bits in their movies- sometimes screamingly funny- but this is entirely due to the fact that they attract some of the funniest actors in the business to their projects. Go back and watch Dumb and Dumber, but fast forward through the Carrey & Daniels scenes and watch the rest of the film. I've seen bad student films better than that. Kingpin is only remotely funny when Bill Murray is on screen- even Randy Quaid got dragged under by their so-called direction. Mary had an incredible cast of comedic talent (and Jonathan Richman, Goddess bless 'em) but still ground to a screeching halt in a few places. If Dumb and Dumber had starred John Leguizamo or Lee Evans instead of Carrey we never would have heard from the Farrellys again. They are the luckiest bastards in Hollywood, making the most money off the least talent.

It takes a special talent to perform comedy. How many people do you know that are truly as gifted as Jim Carrey? Hollywood does not pay 20 million to any actor. Potty humor sells for a reason, it appeals to our childlike persona. and if people can't see that he is funny they are deluding themselves. For those who are too sophisticated or simply refuse to laugh at something because it seems too immature you are denying an essential part of human nature. Jim Carrey provides an outlet, and maybe his type of humor isn't appreciated by some but for the rest he gives us a chance to forget about all the stresses of this world in a safe, short-term environment. This should be applauded. As for his venture into dramatic acting, for those who looked at the whole mood of the Truman Show or did their homework on Andy Kaufman would see exactly why Jim Carrey was cast for these parts. He did an amazing job portraying two charaters who are both very complex. If neither of these movies made you sit back and think after, I don't blame you for thinking that his dramatic rolls have been flops. Open your minds, and your eyes, Jim Carrey is where he is for a reason.
