Love Fringe, Flashforward Not Getting A Talkback?

I thought after last weeks premiere was fairly large, and for the vast majority, very enjoyable, it might be worthy of a weekly TB right alongside Fringe. perhaps a wait and see approach is better, to judge its worthiness. Either way, very much looking forward to tonight. Should bring two excellent episodes.

I love the genre, the whole PARALLAX VIEW, THE CONVERSATION vibe, but I was watching an old X-FILES episode the other night and it struck me how silly the premise is--- that anyone within the government has the competence and the resources to do anything nefarious. We can't even get fucking health care!!! So, as escapist fun, the genre is just that- a departure from all reality.

OLIVIA: "This reminds me of something. Something I've forgotten. If only I could remember what it was."

WALTER: "Well, it just so happens I spilled a can of Dr. Pepper into my sensory deprivation tank, Agent Dunham. I think it should help nicely, although only for maybe a minute or two because we have a whole season of episodes to fill..."

I have to disagree with ya, man. I stuck with Fringe last year, only because it was JJ. By the end on season one, it really started gathering steam, and this season, I have actually found myself eagerly anticipating new episodes. I can't imagine I'm alone. If you've given up on it, I suggest giving it another try. It continues to improve

Yes. Although that's not the most terrifying thing he's done. His "If I Had A Hammer" is so emotionless in its execution it brings to mind Peter Sutcliffe. Bit of a shame actors from science fiction shows don't make albums any more to cash in on their screen success - Ben from Lost could probably rival Nimoy for unsettling renderings of previously jovial songs, and maybe if someone from Heroes, say, Sylar, put out an LP of semi spoken, maniacal psychedelic cover versions of popular songs it might help with the ratings.

And not only did he revive Star Trek, he made a great Mission Impossible movie. Too bad the lack of interest in an M:I movie and Tom Cruise's craziness killed it at the box office. But hopefully these talks about another M:I with J.J. works out and does better. Or maybe his idea for another M:I is being put into this new show that all the networks are fighting over.

You do realise that having these articles on the site actually makes people want to check shows out. For that reason, how can you promote Fringe but not Supernatural? IN it's earlier seasons it was a bit silly at times but it's one of the best under-rated shows on television right now. Even if you just post a picture and title it 'Supernatural talkback', that'd be fine. C'mon...it's time you got beyond your personal tastes and saw that this site caters to an audience who have different tastes to you.

It's different from anything else out there. I love the cast! Thjey really got lucky with the combination of actors ( and yes even Torv whom I don't find her acting bad as some have said ). It's inventive, different, and entertaining. It's a real brite spot in the TV wasteland. When things get boring or ordinary they're " at the door and you should thank god for that! "

I mean, seriously. Possibly the worst episode of Fringe yet. Complete filler. And what the fuck is with the scene where they travel to Iraq to ask some shady guy about the secret whereabouts of some missing doctor, and the guy just happens to be fucking washing dishes in the exact building they went to visit? I thought the shady scarred guy would go make calls or ask someone where the guy is, ther's no reason except complete convenience that he would actually be right there in the backroom. That was awful. I love Fringe, I'm certainly not quitting, but that episode sucked.

Last episode had some great moments, that reminded me a bit of 'Drag Me To Hell', and liked how they played the 'mythology' or season-arc plot straight through a 'monster-of-the-week- episode. I hope they keep it up while expanding and integrating this mythology or 'game play' behind the paralel universes, Dynamic, Bell, Peter, Walter & The Bald Fella etc more into each episode or season progressively
X-FILES DISEASE
by Weasel
Oct 2nd, 2009
04:29:22 PM
My greatest fear for Fringe is that it will come down with a terminal case of "X-Files Disease" (AKA Chris Carter Syndrome). Much like its predecessor, Fringe has an intriguing premise salted with some equally intriguing tid-bits that give viewers the apparent idea that the show actually knows where it's going with its underlying mythos. X-Files was much the same but, ultimately, as the show neared its end, loyal viewers were forced to endure the horrific realization that there was no underlying unity to the X-Files mythos and that the bits and pieces that ran teasingly through the various episodes would never be able to come together as a satisfying whole as the series ran to its conclusion. I'm hoping that Fringe can learn from the mistakes of its 20th century antecedent and give us a series that, no matter how long it runs, will give us some solid narrative fulfillment over the long term. Also, the too-pallid Ms. Torv desperately needs to be replaced. Seriously. This actress and her character are far too colorless to carry the show for much longer.

This latest was a good combination of horror event, character development (asterisk), and mythology-supporting subplot. Even the "baddie" got a little less so when his actions became clearer.

I was less fond of the "flashing orange arrow" exposition of the two-worlds experiences that Olivia had; but the bowling-alley sensei more than makes up for it.
