It used to smell like stinky feet. But it cleaned up well. If you go to the event, be sure to swing by Amazon Hut, which is within walking distance, on Broadway and Ocean Avenue. They have these amazing ACAI frozen desserts.

If anybody goes to this, be sure to ask Beaks what his favorite Lie To Me episode is; he'll talk your ear off!

When the characters go into a lecture about the meaning of different facial ticks and non-verbal cues, how much of that information comes from actual research and how much is just invented for dramatic purpose?
Macs don't make people retarded.

Retarded people buy macs.

There's a subtle difference.

Retarded people see the ads that claim that macs are super-easy-to-use, and then get flustered when they cannot figure out how to do something.

It's not the OS. It's the marketing.

If the retarded people all bought Windows PCs and expected the computer to do all their thinking for them, they'd still be retarded people.

For the record:

I use OSX, Windows, and Linux. OSX is my favourite because it combines the functionality of UNIX with the plug-and-play functionality of olde-tyme Macintosh.

I don't THINK I'm retarded.

But my seventy-year-old dad bought a brand-new iMac because the ads convinced him it's oh-so-easy to use.

He calls me weekly to walk him through the process of attaching a file to an email, or some other basic computing task.

OSX is not the reason he's computer illiterate. He would be equally frustrated by Windows or Linux. But Apple's advertising is the reason he wasted THOUSANDS of dollars on a computer when he could have gotten the EXACT same level of frustration for way less money with Windows or Linux.

The Mac Store was super loud; it was like watching an interview in a soup kitchen AND there were multiple Reservoir Dogs/Tarantino questions. Roth was gracious though, and seemed the most enthused about a child's question about "Incredible Hulk". I have never seen Lie to Me before, so it was hard to gauge if Beaks had, either. I'm leaning towards a last minute binge before the interview.

And the second season premiere. The episode I singled out (about the serial rapist) is well worth watching. Hoping for more of that from Shawn Ryan & Co. this season.

It was loud, though. Had a hard time hearing some of the questions (and couldn't tell if the audience could hear us at all). Hope you got something out of it. Did you see Ray Liotta randomly hanging out?
Reality Lesson

People who bash the Mac while praising their Windows PC are idiots with no perspective and no knowledge of the history of personal computing. I realize many of you weren't born then, but I invite you to look back at what personal computing was like when the Mac was introduced in 1984. The only PC/Microsoft operating system was DOS, a mouseless, text-based system which displayed monochrome letters on a black screen and nothing more. This was then considered the "serious, business computer" as compared to the "toy" Mac graphical interface and mouse. I remember the derision the Mac, with the first ever commercially available graphical interface, bitmapped graphics, and mouse, received from the IBM PC pinheads back then.

When Steve Jobs refused to license the Mac OS as Bill Gates wished him to do, Gates set out to copy it, and did so in an awkward, bumbling way, not managing to come out with anything remotely comparable until, arguably, Windows XP. Now that Apple is 10 years into the development of Mac OSX, MS forges ahead with its plodding copying, copying not only the Mac OS but the iPod and soon even the layout and appearance of the Apple retail stores. They do not do this because Apple gear is "retarded," simpletons.

The point is that if you like your Windows PC, great, you should thank Apple. Without Apple's leadership, MS would have had no incentive to produce anything half as good as the current Windows. You clods would be staring at DOS Version 25.8 or whatever and thinking it was grand. MS has proven itself incapable of innovating anything of any consequence over many years. They're not even all that good at copying. But they still manage to thrill you nimrods because their cheap copies of things are a little bit cheaper, and half of you probably think MS actually invented some of that crap.

BUT HOW DO YOU GUYS MANAGE WITH JUST ONE MOUSE BUTTON?

We could hear you and Roth perfect. I actually did get a lot from it- and you did a good job managing some odd-ball people asking questions. I had never seen the show, so I felt like it would have been tourist to ask anything. In retrospect, I wish I had. I had no idea Liotta was there.
