And although I am not slavishly devoted to Sabremetrics, Billy Beane sure made it work for the Athletics.

That said, what is the point of this movie? What audience are they seeking? I am assume that with Sorkin, et. al. involved they are not looking to make a hard hitting documentary on statistics and baseball.

Is he back on the shrooms?

I hope Sorkin can manage to shoehorn in all his resentments about getting canned from "The West Wing" and not getting to bang Kristin Chenoweth, like he did with "Studio 60."
I dont understand how this a movie.

I've read the book, and it is essentially a guide to using statistics to make a "complete" and efficient Baseball team. I really don't get this as a movie. But when Sports Night was on, i decided to see everything Sorkin has and will do....so i guess I'll at least rent this.(that is if it ever gets made.)

Wasn't funny then, either. Or is this supposed to be a drama? Brad Pitt is the only thing that raises MONEYBALL above the status of 90's-era HBO Original Movie. Seriously. With or without Sorkin or Soderbergh, this will be lucky to make its money back.

So will we be treated to Steve Schott swanning about the corridors of Oakland-Alameda Stadium (or whatever it was called back then) with Billie Beane, Tony La Russa (whoops, put on the bus by ownership due to costs), well whoever, and enjoying witty baseball statistical banter. Yup, just like West Wing.

I have to admit, the idea of him "rewriting" a script by the likes of Steve Zallian does sound a little odd. I mean, I'm pretty sure that Stevie Z's got some chops.

Searching For Bobby Fischer? Schindler's List? The guy can write a fucking screenplay, why let Aaron Sorkin fuck with it with his soulless, corporate sheen? And why the fuck did Soderbergh try to improve on it in the first place? Has the motion picture industry ever had a more hit-or-miss personality than Soderbergh. He's either good or god-awful embarrasingly terrible. But the guy that wrote Bobby Fischer needs Soderbergh's thumbprints all over his work. Fucking Hollywood, I forgot Fischer and Schindler's list weren't major blockbuster hits so the guy must be a shit writer.

According to the LA Times, he wanted the movie to reflect the way things really happened, working in interviews with the people who were actually involved. Which I think would have been cool. But it probably would have bored the shit out of most people.

"Moneyball" was one of the best sports books I've ever read, and certainly the best baseball book I've ever read. The revelation of sabermetrics has become household talk among baseball fans these days, but it was revolutionary when Lewis wrote about it in Moneyball. I'm just... not sure how this becomes a movie. I guess you'd have to focus on Beane's much-hyped high school athletic career, leading to his general failure in the MLB, his stint playing in Japan... and then transition into his role as a front office exex. But, outside of truly, truly die hard baseball fans... who the hell is going to see that movie? Another one of Lewis's books has been in development for awhile, "The Blind Side," and that is ripe material for a good movie. Its all about the amazing story of a hopeless inner city kid who ends becoming the starting left tackle for Ole Miss, and eventually, a 1st round pick for the Ravens. I'd love to see that movie get made.
