Never has my enthusiasm died so quickly whilst watching a trailer! I was in "Wow! This looks fucking great!" mode when suddenly, up pops some dickwad who talks about how the world is dead in the most amateur way possible. After several more badly acted scenes, we get to Ms Save The World who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

Christ almighty. Can they get rid of the actors but leave the effects please?

from the clips that are online. This, on the other hand, looks like it has potential. Plus, the hot lady from 'Eli Stone' and 'Veronica Mars' is still hot.

This is mid-season, right? If so, the television season really only starts in January... 'Caprica', 'V', this, 'Chuck', 'Lost'... hm, and look at that, all sci-fi programming for grown-ups.

05:44:28 PM
I mean think about it, the invasion/attack/explosions, that's going to be 95% in the first episode, so if you direct a huge portion of your budget for the entire season there, you can really impress people from (forgive me) day one, and then get them hooked on smaller, more character-driven episodes later. save a little for the season finale, and you're golden.

some of the dialogue here is a little overwrought, but it's kind of intriguing, and you know you want to watch the first episode, at least, to see if it's tolerable.

the thing with the cop on the freeway was actually pretty well done, I thought.

well I'm in, anyway.

It might be interesting but I doubt it will be around long as it's another serial. The market wants more stand alone episode oriented shows - in my opinion of course, no one really knows for sure. :)

Parts sounded like they was written by someone used to doing daytime soaps. That whole, "...just doesn't know it yet" was horrible (as was the guy delivering it). Still, the rest of it (like the scene on the freeway) seemed well-written. Definitely worth a look.

But it's the pilot. We'll have to see what the succeeding episodes look like. What works best in the pilot are the special effects-- probably not going to be too many more of them in the actual series. The acting in the clip is sometimes good, a few times not so good. Hopefully, they've got a good show runner, who cares. But it does look promising. This is the Jay Leno channel? Hmmmm...

It would be better if they pushed more of the struggle to survive than the emotional daughter asking her father "did you cum for me?". I wouldn't watch it if it's more about relationships than the actual fight to survive. I have a feeling that V will also take more of the the relationship road too. I've been burned by BSG, and try to avoid relationship-based stories that tricks you into thinking it's sci-fi. And the chick that has a plan to defeat those things looks as if that it was her first day wearing glasses. Smart people=wear glasses is not applicable anymore in this day and age.

Actually, it was my impression that the woman with the glasses at the end isn't actually a woman, but another alien in disguise. The way she says "I chose each and every one of you" and "we're gonna save this world" kinda implied "I've known this was coming for a while, and this time I'm prepared to fight." So, if the glasses seem ill-fitting, maybe it's because she's not used to her humansuit yet ;).

Of course, if that's the case, we've kinda been there before (some Cylons helping the humans in BSG, and apparently V is going that direction, too). A series of humans fighting off the invaders *without* outside help would be closer to "War of the Worlds on TV." Which would also be cool, as long as the aliens took care to study our ecosystems and don't suddenly succumb to bacteria (or dihydrogen monoxide).
This, like all apocalypse stuff, worries me
by maelstrom_ZERO
Jul 7th, 2009
07:27:51 PM

I mean, it might just be me because I have an overactive imagination and I've read/watched so many post-apocalyptic things. But every time I see/read something relating to an apocalypse, I feel compelled to prepare for it. Does anyone else think of this stuff?

Because if you think about it--really think--you'll realize that society is very, very fragile. And then you'll also realize that the majority of us are ill-equipped to handle the horrors of a post-apocalyptic world. Not many of us have practical experience like military training, woodcraft, medical expertise, or agrarian knowledge. So if things really do go into the shitter, most of us on these talkbacks are going to die very quickly.

This is probably the main reason I've always wanted to learn some practical self defense (krav maga, I'm thinking), buy a knife, get a handgun and train with it, and a bunch of other post-apocalypse relevant things. I dunno, am I crazy for thinking this way?

Well, almost all of us. So many shows started out epically, and ended up being too successful for it's own good, causing the writers to rethink the premise of the show in order to stretch the show out for another nine seasons. Yeah, I'm sure this show will be no different.

Now thats a scary scenario. Everything so decimated that there aren't enough firemen, police, or national guard to keep the peace. Escape would be impossible, every bridge would be gone. Fires everywhere, downed powerlines, the works. I would imagine a post-invasion LA would be very similar.

by Ash Talon
Jul 7th, 2009

That's what I'm getting out of this. The glasses chick is an alien coming to earth to help lead a resistance against her alien comrades(or enemies).

As others have pointed out, it look incredibly cheesy. The cop freeway scene looks ridiculous. Oooh...that L.A. looking guy took apart that gun...he must be cool and have a mysterious past.

The concept could be cool if we didn't know it was going to limited by a tv budget. If it was on pay cable, it might have a chance to wow. As it, it'll just be typical melodramatic BS but with a tinge of sci-fi.

by Alientoast
Jul 8th, 2009
06:47:58 AM
The main advantage of the "evil aliens" is that it provides an ongoing and dramatic foil to the show: What is their plan? What are they doing? How do we stop them? While a comet or asteroid provides a backdrop of the classic "Society turns on itself and degenerates", there have been a few recent series with "society after the end" that didn't shine too bright. A War of the Worlds angle might work. Besides, most of the TV audience doesn't remember that old War of the Worlds TV show from the 80s/early 90s. I still remember one scene from that show where an alien-inhabited human shell was in a salon and the person in the chair goes "Can you take a little off the top?" then the alien holds up a table saw and starts it. That used to freak the shit out of me as a kid haha.

"Be prepared for a lot of good looking folks running around with no one asking the obvious questions." Maybe one show that did that one time?
