when he's passed up for the cameo? This will flop. No one under the age of 35 will want to see this shit. Are studio execs just lazy to come up with original ideas or just fucking looking to throw money down the drain on properties that will bomb. If you're just going to remake old TV shows, make Magnum PI or MacGyver, Hollywood jackasses.

To ensure the first meeting between his character and young T.J. Hooker at the academy. Shatner's cameo as T.J.'s father will amount to him riding the hood of a car as it collides head-on with a tanker truck, thus ensuring the escape of T.J.'s mother as she gives birth to baby T.J.
CHRISTIAN BALE AS HOOKER! CROSSOVER W/ SHAFT
by YackBacker
Jul 6th, 2009
11:22:06 AM
Mass-internal franchise confusion as John Shaft tries to reconcile how Hooker looks EXACTLY like Walter Wade, the villain in the 2000 movie. John Conner sends a T-800 from the future to watch over Hooker, the future of our race. And, of course, Batman works with Commissioner Shatner of the LAPD to help catch the pale-skinned pedophile pop-star who faked his death. Fin.

Oh man I loved this cheesey show as a kid. And Locklear, wowee wowee. Shatner definitely needs a role in this. Sadly, Will Ferrell will be considered for this. This role needs the right balance of goofy and serious, and Ferrell is too much of the former. And he's got too much flab to be a cop that jumps rooftops/rolls around.

That opening plays like a spoof of those types of 1980's shows. There is NO way you can make an even half-way serious movie adaptation of TJ HOOKER without the actors winking at the camera. Put Stiller, Ferrel or Vaugn in the lead and I'm sold. Add a part for Zach Galifianakis (maybe for the Zmed role)--that guy is hilarious.

A T.J Hooker Action/Comedy Movie!?! When is Hollywood going to STOP this insanity!! I remember watching this TV show back in the 80-ies! Shatner was THE man as "TJ Hooker"! Adrian Zmed (forgot his characters name) was his cheesy rookie side kick and then...sighhhh...Heather Locklear as Officer Stacy..Oooo la laaa!! :) One can only imagine WHO they are going to cast for this "movie".... Will it be another re-teaming of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson (anyone remember that piece of crap Starsky & Hutch they made together?)..Will Ferrell? Seth Rogan? Steve Carrell? Or will this be another vehicle for Will Smith to star in as the lead character? Ohhh the horror! the horror!!

...CNBC anchors just did a piece on "The New Golden Age of Hollywood". Their examples were TRANSFORMERS 2 and ICE AGE 3 as evidence that Hollywood is experiencing a resurgence of profits during a recession, and the new importance of international box-office, and the lessening of domestic BO importance. Movies that play to U.S. viewers, like baseball movies, are shelved in place of recognizable franchise names that have foreign settings.

I've never seen this show but from what I've seen a remake might not be that bad. Is that what the show was about, a cop and his dad? If that's the case and it was originally pretty cheesy it might work. If you remember, shows like Magnum and the A-Team never really took themselves that seriously to begin with. Now when can we get a Magnum P.I. movie? Just put Christiam Bale in a 'stache and Michael Clark Duncan in a helicopter. Bob Hoskins as Higgins?

Okay, so what's the point in making a movie about a cop show? Who cares if it's TJ Hooker: The Movie or the main character is renamed and the movie sold as something new?

It doesn't make any difference. Except for fucking Hollywood who realise that half of their audience will be too young to even remember the show whilst the others will come along because they were avid watchers.

Of course, then the DVD sales of the old show will be given a boost too...Clever bastards!

Fucking Hollywood. Raping childhoods for dollars. They're fucking child smugglers, shipping kids across oceans and forcing them to sell themselves to obsese foreigners. It's disgust and it needs to be stopped.

The craziest thing about all these big-screen versions:
by kevred
Jul 6th, 2009
05:12:38 PM
...is that during their original runs, there's no way shows like these could have been made into movies. People would have laughed you out of Hollywood if you'd suggested a big-screen "TJ Hooker" when it was actually on TV, being watched by millions of people.

But now that it's been off the air for ages, we can make a movie *making fun of it*.

To me, that's a huge indictment of how stupid and shallow this age is. Makes me sick that I'm stuck in this culture we have now, where millions of dollars, thousands of people, and the creatve energies and marketing machines of entire corporations are poured into lazily making easy jokes at nostalgia properties. While, needless to say, many great original stories go untold.

Curse this age of irony, sarcasm, and lazy satire. Curse it.

by Nem_Wan

How many cop shows from the 80s are virtually forgotten? You can't answer that because you don't remember them. Point proved. Shatner is also the only reason anyone would think there's comedic potential. Shatner is more essential to this movie than he is to Star Trek. When SNL parodied TJ Hooker, Shatner was there. Starting with TNG people are used to seeing other actors in Star Trek. There's only one TJ Hooker and it's Shatner.

Tom Selleck on remakes:
by Flyingcircus
Jul 6th, 2009
09:18:25 PM
"Actor Tom Selleck has ruled out a cameo role in a planned big screen version of his 1980s TV hit Magnum P.I. - because he refuses to trivialize the show. Selleck is against compromising the memory of a television show he is proud to have starred in by appearing in a big-budget movie making fun of it. He says, "I tell you what worries me - because I love Magnum and we have loyal fans - is they take these TV show titles, and they buy them and they spend $100 million on special effects, and then they make fun of them and trivialize it. Then they try and get the actor who used to be in it to do some ridiculous cameo to prove to the audience that it's OK. And I will not do that."

TJ's Five Year Run
by NoHubris
Jul 6th, 2009
11:02:38 PM
If the show ran for five years, it likely had a fan base that won't understand it as a comedy.

The above post comparing it to LAND OF THE LOST has a great chance of being correct IMHO. Like LAND OF THE LOST, the fans who took the show seriously won't come to the movie if it's a comedy, while the younger movie audiences won't come because the idea/concept simply doesn't attract them.

BTW it is interesting that the remake/reboot mania coincides with the HULU hype.

And not just because he's saying the same thing I said earlier in this talkback. What's the big urge to make fun of our own past? It frustrates me that we can't celebrate where we've come from, in all its craziness, without irony and mockery.

Here's hoping more of the old stars and makers stand on principle and shun the new versions. I felt kind of sad for Maryt Krofft in publicity for LOTR; he was surrounded by a bunch of idiots--starts of the film included--with loads of cash who just wanted to make fun of his work.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – An actress who starred on the hit television series "Three's Company" has been arrested in Southern California and cited for drunken driving. Police say Joyce DeWitt, who played the character Janet Wood on the popular show, was pulled over Saturday afternoon after she drove past a barricade near a park in El Segundo. Sgt. Danny Kim says an officer arrested the 60-year-old DeWitt after he observed signs she had been drinking and gave her field sobriety tests. Kim says DeWitt was booked at the Police Department, cited and released on her own recognizance.
A telephone listing for DeWitt was not immediately available.

I think Harry should do nothing but post remake or reimagining news on this site (which lately is mostly what happens) for one reason... Coming to this web site and reading all the creative, yet hilarious, comments people make makes my day. I was in tears a minute ago because I was laughing so hard reading the threads. Such great comments always ensue with these forums, such as, "OH GOD, NOT ANOTHER REMAKE!" to "Only if you cast this person", to, "I think it could actually be good", to "Why stop there and make a remake of THIS film", to "Hollywood has run out of ideas", to "ENOUGH! IT'S ARMAGHEDDON!"
