Excluding wether he is an effective president or even a good or bad one, the man is an incredible political animal. And even more so, a powerful campaigner and speaker.

The guy debated political powerhouses such as Hillary Clinton and John McCain and KILLED THEM! He took on the Clinton Machine and the Republican Party and WIPED them off the map. He can raise record amounts of money and is incredibly likable. You might not like him, but the vast majority of America find him personable and charismatic. Attacking his appeal is like the Democrats attacking Reagan's, it is a sign of denial.

Sarah Palin is only admired by Republicans for what she stands for, not what she is capable of. She is horrible in interviews, knows nothing about politics or policy and was embarrassed by Joe Biden in the debates. If she had been forced to campaign for a full year instead of a few months she would have been torn to pieces by not only the press or the Democrats, but also her Republican opponents.

You nominate Sara Palin as your candidate, you will see the Republican party become obsolete and vanish like the Whigs.

If you Quit a job that involves representing well over half a million people you had BETTER say why you abandoned them.

Palin simply couldn't or didn't want too. She babbled and fumbled her way through an embarrassing farce of a press conference that was as big a shock to the GOP as it was to everyone else.

It wasn't co-ordinated, planned or carefully thought out. It was a chaotic hastily cobbled together mess that told everyone who Voted Palin for Governor that they could go fuck themselves as she has other more important ideas and moneymaking schemes or is trying to flee an upcoming massive scandal.

So in the absence of any hard facts speculation will run rife. You can hardly have objectivity in a vacuum.

And that's entirely down to Palin. She can blame no-one else but herself for not managing to speak plainly and coherently with a simple reason why she quit.

In this she is as culpable as Sanford who kept rambling on like a complete nutbag about his "romance" long, long after the Republican hierarchy had told him to please shut the fuck up and stop digging.

Who knows ? That might be exactly what she wants and gets her the fame and money she clearly craves but she ain't gonna win any Elections for anyone doing that and she will be easily dismissed as a whining Quitter who couldn't handle a real job or the media after this.

That Press Conference was a circus. It was anything but a dignified exit and simply ensured rampant and unflattering speculation for days or weeks to come.

She could have tried for a dignified short statement along the lines of after discussing it with her family and her supporters in Alaska she had decided to quit and would be spending the 4th with her family after which she would detail the reasons why. Or like most people could have managed, simply say why she quit.

That's not what happened though. We had a rambling incoherent mess. And even if she did try for dignified it would still have drove the speculation into overtime because anyone willing to quit as a Governor must obviously have a compelling reason to do so that hardly needs days to think up or explain or prepare.

It would be like Sanford saying he was in Argentina and trying to stall and not say why. Politics 101. You get ahead of the story. But Politics 101 is not Palin's strong suit as the GOP keeps finding out to their cost.

As for Palin, she's far smarter than Obama, we KNOW for a fact where she was born (so she IS an American citizen, rather than a Kenyan who refuses to release an undoctored birth certificate). Plus she actually held real jobs with responsibility, rather than "community organizer" (aka race-baiting liberal lawyer).

Hell, I'd rather have W back or Jimmy Carter over Obama the Idiot in Chief.

I'll be honest, I have no inside line on why she quit and like everyone else I'm fairly baffled. There are many theories sure, but it could be something utterly leftfield for all we know.

It just doesn't look like a clear plan of any kind and it feeds into the perception of Palin as a loose cannon who has a talent for the strange and unpredictable.

That might help her if she tries to play herself up as an unconventional figure not beholden to the Republican heirarchy but she is simply raising doubts in the minds of those who matter in the GOP as to her suitability as a reliable votewinning voice for the Republican movement.

As for Stormtroopers being weak sauce in the OT, there are a couple of theories at work here- 1) the over-cloning might degrade the quality of clone you get, 2) Palpatine stopped using the Kaminoans to clone the troops and took his business to a cheaper, quicker facility, 3) Not all Stormtroopers are Jango Fett clones- they could have diversified their sources.

And finally, the Luke Skywalker thing is a mixed bag. They've always maintained, even in the OT, that Ben hid the twins and kept watch over Luke. I think there's two reasons why they never changed his name- 1) Ben wanted Luke to always know he was a Skywalker so he would eventually follow his destiny to face Vader and take down the Empire 2) when Luke finally emerges, it would be a shot across the bow of Palpatine and Vader, causing a possible rift between the two bad guys (which it did) and 3) George Lucas wanted to keep things as simple as possible from a storytelling POV.

Rusty DePass, a prominent South Carolina Republican activist, is now apologizing for making a racist joke about Michelle Obama, and taken down the Facebook page where he made it -- though he does make sure to shift the blame and say that Michelle started it.

DePass commented on a story about a gorilla escaping from a local zoo: "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless."

"I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone," said DePass. "The comment was clearly in jest."

But, he said, "The comment was hers, not mine," referring to Michelle having said that man has descended from apes. The New York Daily News says they could find no such comment from Michelle -- but even if they could, it's not like that would make it any better.

It's worth noting that Michelle's ancestors came from South Carolina. So why did they leave, again?

Do I only blame Republicans for starting these economic policies? Hell no. Obviously there were many democrats who were the architects of this bad policy as well.

I do, however, put the blame on the Republicans for letting it get out of hand and becoming a disaster. Bush and the Republicans had 8 years to rectify the situation and did nothing but actually exasperate it.

It is the difference between leaders (FDR, Reagan, Clinton) and managers. If you are in the jungle and you have a guide leading the way with the machete, every so often he has to climb a tree to see if we are on the right path. If not, he has to correct it to make sure we keep on our way. That is leadership.

But if he climbs up, sees we are off but keeps us on the same path because he thinks "hey, we are making such good progress and I don't want to change the plan" or can't even recognize we are lost, that isn't leadership, that is a manager.

Bush and the Republican party for 8 years weren't leaders when it came to the economy, they were managers. Clinton might have steered us in the wrong direction, but Bush kept driving that way for 8 years.

Comic books are always making bad ideas for character development (Wolverine anyone) and many times the best thing for movies to do is to ignore those bad ideas. I mean, no one is complaining that Spider-Man's parents in the movies aren't revealed to be two dead spies (which in the comics they are, another bad idea that is best to just ignore).

Plus, if I remember right after the first movie everyone was going nuts about how hot Durnst was when she was kissing Spider-Man in the rain. I remember reading TBs and Forums about guys saying she was "freakin' hot." Personally, I think she is the right level of attractiveness - someone who was treated like a star in high school and college but when she tried to break into show business realizes she is one-in-a-hundred (which is how the character was depicted in the 70s and early 80s).

As an Independent who admits he voted for Obama I have to say I hear more negative comments about Obama coming from the Right-Wing commentators and shows than I did about Bush from the Left-Wing. Of course, there really aren't that many left-wing shows on TV or radio (I think they prefer to blog and put out Independent newspapers) but you get my point.

Under the Clinton Presidency the following happened:

Average economic growth of 4.0 percent per year, compared to average growth of 2.8 percent during the previous years. The economy grew for 116 consecutive months, the most in history.

Creation of more than 22.5 million jobs—the most jobs ever created under a single administration, and more than were created in the previous 12 years. Of the total new jobs, 20.7 million, or 92 percent, were in the private sector.

Economic gains spurred an increase in family incomes for all Americans. Since 1993, real median family income increased by $6,338, from $42,612 in 1993 to $48,950 in 1999 (in 1999 dollars).

Now you could argue how much of this was caused by Clinton and how much of it was actually a problem he left for Bush - that is a legitimate debate. In fact there are many things I can list as problems with Clinton’s Economic policies (and yes, I do list Greenspan as one of the architects of our current recession), but to lump Clinton with Bush or to say he is worse is just disingenuous. As I said before, Bush and the Republicans had ample time to rectify any problem with Clinton’s policies – they were too thrilled to live off of the boon and afraid of looking bad. It is the difference between leadership and management, as I said earlier. If Clinton’s policies were leading us down a wrong path, Bush should have been a leader and said “we got to change this.” And I do believe 8 years is plenty of time for a nation to avoid any problems left by a previous administration.
