Unlike so many others I liked the first one and thought the story could have existed along side what was happening in the varrious games since RE: 0 through Nemisis all take place within the span of a few days. The second one was complete garbage. It was cool the actually introduced a game character with Jill but she was just the same as the Milla character and they both stole time away from each other and there was no development for either. And that horrible Nemisis costume that looked like it was a rejust from a live actio TMNT sequal sucked. The 3rd one was hit and miss, all of the Umbrella Corp stuff was really cool but the Milla character developing psycich powers wtf? If they were going to continue this franchise each instalment should have had a new lead like the games did with them possible converging in the last one. I wouldn't mind another RE movie but I don't want another with Milla and that character.

The actual game was epic. Superb storyline, it has this awesome james bond kind of guy in the lead with a sweet teenage chick. Even though it sounds terribly cliche, it was really not(that much). Certainly not let dickhead Anderson take the directors chair for that. I know people who make better farts then he makes film. Also pretty sure you guys do too! The first one is kinda meh, has it's moments but not that great. The second one, either intentional or not, is hilarious. Pure camp but VERY entertaining. And the third one was genuniely good and different. And the direction was very good looking (I loved the "shoot the zombie in the face but IT'S A MIRROR AND IT'S RIGHT BEHIND HIM!") So, yeah, I'm a huge RE geek and this is WAYYYY different than the series, but at least it doesn't just mindlessly sequelize itself each time, it actually changes things around.

Proof? Watch "Resident Evil: Degeneration". It's a PG-13 for fuck's sake, and it had the same crew that made the games AND IT WAS WORSE THAN THE LIVE ACTION MOVIES. Seriously, it's pretty damn bad, meaningless if it has Leon and Claire Redfield's voices or not. (Claire basically just did the "protect Shelly" plotline from RE2 in the movie.) The cutscenes for the games are way more violent. The game was supposed to tie in RE5, but I played every second of RE5 and I'll be damned if there's ANYTHING even remotely related to the game. So everytime someone bitches how "Oh, this series takes a piss on the games and Capcom should do it best", pleae, go watch "Degeneration" and know that they can fuck this up even worse.

FlickaPoo: RE4 is one of the greatest games of all time! It had tons of atmosphere and totally retooled game play. It was great the first time but the new control system on the Wii made it better and then the Seperate ways min game featuring Ada on the PS2 ver was awesome. It just kept getting better and better. Shermdawg: The story for RE4 was awesome too, it kept a familiar feel to it without rehashing the same plot points from 0-3 and it made Leon in to a complete bad ass. Tall_Boy66: The connection between Degeneration and RE5 was the orginazation Clair worked for setting the stage for what Chris was doing in Africa.

When the first one came ut and had nothing to do with/no resemblance to the game the series was already lost on me. I saw the second one and there was nothing there to provoke me to watch the third, (although I have heard that the third was not awful.) To keep this going on is just a step under ho-hum, and one step beyond yawn. Now, if they actually just threw out all the past movies and released a Resident Evil movie that resembled the first game and moved on from there, I might open my eyes long enough to take notice, otherwise, don't care. Someone up top did bring a good point up in stating that they should keep making these just to keep Anderson busy and away from things that anyone gives a shit about. The games, well the original few games, have a really cool mythology and could be good movies with some, wait for it...character development. Although I am, and a lot of you are, sick to death of zombie movies, one that's done right is still viable. In short, this movie will blow.

It ditched the expected followup to Code:Veronica and the mythology of the series in favor of a goofy side story that really didn't do much to move the series ahead other than to introduce the new "zombies", which was a horrible move given what came of it in RE5. Also, Leon was shoehorned into a story that didn't fit his character. They should've used Carlos, or someone else. No way a rookie cop should be the lone government agent sent to rescue the president's daughter within six years. Leon was just used to get Ada in there, and after everything was said and done, nothing had progressed for either of the two. And now that the series is supposedly gonna get rebooted, we'll never find out what the future holds for Ms.Wong after Wesker died.

PWSA just needs to stop writing. Seriously. He isn't a writer and has no business pretending to be one. His scripts are crap and he's completely butchered any shot this franchise had of becoming good. He lives in a world of delusion if h ereally thinks his writing is good enough to cut on anything His characters have no arc, his set pieces are tame rip offs of better genre films. I don't think he's a bad director at all. In spite of what Harry said about Solider, I liked it. Event Horizon had a lame script but was fun to watch visually. Shopping was a pretty cool little indie thriller. And the original Mortal Kombat movie is one of the few game adaptations to capture the spirit of the game on which it was based. Paul needs to hire some good writers on his projects and quit trying to shoulder it by himself. His writing just has no poetry to it. To write good genre stories, you've got to have a poetic quality. Quentin Tarantino, Joss Whedon, Ronald D. Moore, Bryan Fuller, Brian K. Vaughn, Jane Espenson, Christopher Nolan. These writers are all a cut above in the field of genre storytelling because there is a grace and rhythm to their work that blends in with their considerable gifts as storytellers. To be a good genre story writer, you have to have a connection with language and mythology. Paul W.S. Anderson is more of a guy who comes up with cool ideas than a real screenwriter. It's a shame, too. Because he's got some visual flare as a director. I'd love to see what he'd do with a Castlevania movie if he could get Bryan Fuller to write it. He really needs to acknowledge his limitations as an artist. He's certainly no Uwe Boll. Paul actually does have some talent. Just not on the page.

Set it in the old mansion with the cast of Chris, Jill, Barry, Rebecca and Wesker. It doesn't have to be a re-telling of the game's story completely but be creative with it like they did with the Resident Evil re-make. The whole Lisa Trevor sub-plot was really interesting and eerie. I'm sorry but Resident Evil isn't about this Alice character, it doesn't have brightly lit futuristic labs and it certainly isn't set in a world where 95% of the population has been wiped out and everywhere has turned to desert. We want to see dark eerie isolated places (the mansion, Rockfort island, old villages in the middle of nowhere), great characters (especially the rivalry between Chris and Wesker, the Ashford Twins and Leon and Krauser) and make the labs dark, dirty and primitive looking - seriously it's much more effective!

No, it wasn't the so called "racism" as some towncryers made it out to be, but the fact that the AI was unreliable (Sheeva) and how the build up between Chris and Wesker had a unsatisfying conclusion. Yeah, the jill being "dead" subplot was uncalled for as it did nothing for the storyarc.Wesker, came off as a james Bond villian and the fight scenes with music (Winds of Madness) was all too inspired by the Matrix films. Also there's Chris punching a giant boulder....???!!?? anyway, despite it's flaws, RE5 served as an interesting final chapter and the ending song was unforgetable.I'm still kicking ass in Versus mode via xbox live. Great game!

But 2 was awful. 3 was not nearly as bad but that's mostly because of the setting. The first film could've easily been a decent standalone film. It had the right elements. Creepy monsters, a story set beneath the mansion, a poorly concocted mystery/twist but at least it tried...and it wasn't quite SuperAlice yet. It was one of the better video game adaptations to be sure, equipped with some nice camera angles that the games are known for. But 2 and 3 are wayyyy over the top. Give me Dog Soldiers or Cube with zombies. That's all the game is. Romero's script was terrible but at least it didnt enter Matrix rip-off territory like Apocalypse & Extinction. Get rid of Alice and introduce some interesting leads. The game lacks intelligent characterizations but at least they're entertaining and not fucking invincible like Alice.

The first RE was completely awesome in the same kind of way as Mortal Kombat 1. Second was awesome too. The third one was so disappointing....wandering around the desert? The whole aesthetic changed. RE1&2 played in front of glossy, high-tech environments....suddenly with the third we get lots of sand. It just messed it up. I hope they can bring back the feel, the scare, and the humor of the first one.

The 1st one was good. Or at least a good start. But the 2nd felt like just an average action movie, and I hated the 3rd. Part 1 had a good overall feel of the game. I swore they would of made the 2nd one better? But hey I did catch the Street Fighter TLOCL.. God, that was bad.

Really? You guys prefer the ultra-clunky control system in RE 1-3/Code Veronica/Outbreak over the retooled controls in 4? Not to mention, the great stand-alone storyline, the epic boss battles, the variety of weapons, etc.? You enjoy how the controls and camera switch if you walk from one side of a room to the other? If they're retooling the previous games to fit 4's and 5's gameplay (and graphics), I'll be the first in line.

Was the laserbeam room in RE1 where those two guys were trapped inside. IMO that's the picture of the franchise...the computer setting traps for the soldiers....almost like a reverse-Rambo....that was awesome. They need to go back to that. RE3 was just zombies in the desert...boring.

I've heard just about every excuse for these awful movies. "Well at least the fans of the games like them." Um, no. We don't. "Well at least we get to see Mila again, she's hawt." Seriously, if that's the reason why you go to the movies, then go get fucking laid and let the grownups talk. "Well they're not made for 'grownups', they're not trying to win Oscars, they're just trying to be good ol' fashioned mindless zombie action! The cheesiness of the action and the face-hidingly bad dialog only adds to its old-school charm!" Right. People who say things like that are the ones who will be perfectly satisfied if absolutely nothing original in cinema is released ever again, for as long as they live. As long as they have their same, tired, old-fashioned, unoriginal explosions and gore, they're good. You can still make a "mindless action movie with zombies" without awful dialog and ridiculously cheesy action and event-logic. It's true. It CAN be done. And it's not even that difficult. The idiots in charge of movies like these simply refuse to do it. They make the conscious effort not to stray from their formula of heavy-metal-music-with-half-na ked-female-kicking-ass-while-d oing-things-that-make-absolute ly-no-sense. I'm not asking movies like these to be all serious and win Academy Awards. But is it really too much to ask simply want a LITTLE originality and meaning to my mindless action? Is it? I'd like to think it isn't.

I'm with you on that one. I'm usually not one for changing a formula if I have such great memories with it, and I wasn't too thrilled when I heard about the changes for RE:4. But playing it made me a believer. I wouldn't mind them eventually going back to the old formula for maybe one game, if for no other reason than to pay homage to itself. Personally I'd love to eventually play an old-school style RE game with today's technology and updated mechanics. But I definitely prefer the new style, it's hard to imagine how anyone wouldn't.

I guess I just like the voice actress, but when she said "don't you trust your partner?" I thought it worked very well. And I felt for Jill just because she's been the player's digital avatar for, like, 3 games (if you count Umbrella Chronicles) so you already have an emotional attachment to her walking in, and I've never seen a "boss fight" in a game where you have to actually beg the "boss" character to not kill you, that was interesting. Yes, it was the worst twist ever because they're constantly teasing Jill-is-not-dead the entire game. I think the game earned it in it's length to have her dead/not dead in one game. You have to play for, like, 8 hours still you see Jill alive again so she's "dead" for quite some time. Bad setup, somewhat awkwardly written, but a good emotional pay off when you save her in the end. (I will admit to just flat-out shooting her to death when the fight started, so maybe I'm not as emotionally attached to Jill as I think.)

Do any of you like the films? Do any of you like Milla? From the video, Milla seems to be one of the few truly nice people in the business, graciously taking a fan pic, talking about her young child, and just being gracious. And on the site where the video is from all the posts are positive and all seem eager to see a new Resident Evil film. Here, all I read are complaints, put downs, and just general obnoxiousness. I have never played the game (too old for games, boys) and so I have no issues with game Vs movie. Is that what gets all your panties in a twist?? The movies ain't the game?? Just like the books ain't the movie?? Go away and leave this board if you don't like the topic, movie, person, etc.

That frigging masterpiece will be tainted by Anderson's penchant for taking the 'kick' out of kick arse. PWS makes very entertaining films and is far better than he gets credit for. However he waters everything down. Event Horizon had the makings of a balls out classic but got smashed by his ridculous homage to 'Don't Look Now' and lack of backbone in the crew gone mad scenes which were utterly horrific. HAd he got that part right it would be one of the great space horror films. His cast for that film was incredible.

What they should do is give the Resident Evil franchise a makeover, along the lines of Casino Royale and Star Trek. Continuing the franchise on the same course it's been going on won't bring anything new to the series, it needs a new take. Considering they're remaking everything in sight why not this.

In that you couldn't move and shoot. In RE5 you still couldn't mov and shoot. What makes the whole thing bullshit is that progressively RE has been becoming a more and more action focused game. In which case they should've given us the ability to move and shoot and stop pretending that by not allowing us that ability it retains the 'survival horror' feeling. That's flat out bullshit because it doesn't, it just makes RE5 a frustrating action game with nothing remotely horrific in atmosphere to the previous games. They should just stop pretending that they're doing survival horror anymore and just make it more like gears of war like everybody wants. Apparently RE6 is going to copletely reinvent itself like RE4 did to the previous entries... can't wait to see what they pull out this time! And then go back and start from scratch 3 more times until we finally get something they're sticking with... And for the record Degeneration was a shitty movie! Anderson's movies do a far better job. I guess Capcom can't hold a candle to Square Enix, they should just let Square do a Devil May Cry CG movie!
