i wonder what the twist is that makes this thing so attractive to Steve, since the basic premise isn't exactly earth-shattering. (pardon the pun?)

We are all blessed by this project. Thank you TNT for taking this bold move to start a series with such an underused premise. Alas the casting choice is reminds me of the massive shit I had this morning after a huge cup of coffee.

When is Speilberg going to stop doing extended adverts for the military industrial complex and start making fun entertainment again? Is it possible for Speilberg to make fun entertainment without it involving war, someone holding a gun or something blowing up?! I blame Michael Bay!!
I thought Crichton and Wells were ER. Spielberg too?

wowsah156 - it could be fun, but only if they did a minisries of Harry Turtledove's wonderful WORLDWAR novels where it's 1942, the Germans own most of Europe and much of Russia, the Japanese are all over China and much of the Pacific, and the Americans and wondering how to get out of this mess. Then, the aliens invade. And Hitler has to make deals with the Soviets to save his beloved Reich, and the Chinese see the aliens as a possible way to overthrow their Nipponese conquerors. Meanwhile, the U.S. is having to deal with ETs on their land. But it isn't completely one-sided. The aliens had sent a sub-light probe to Earth to study us prior to conquest. Unfortunately, the data it came back with was 800 years out of date. But, hey, how much progress could a horseback riding, bow-and-arrow technology race make in a mere eight centuries? Boy, are the aliens depressed when they learn the awful truth. We're only about a century behind, now, and learning fast... Very amusing.

Why doesn't someone make this a TV series? They could pitch it as a cross between V and Heroes (network execs can only understand a concept when it can be compared to an existing show). HBO, get on it!

Curious.

Not sure I see him as a soldier. Not a war weary hard nosed bad ass type anyway. With these guys he'll be a well rounded father trying to keep his family together in the midst of having to kill aliens.

Shit, V wasn't even original, it ripped off Roddenberry's Battleground Earth which was made later as Earth: Final Conflict. And all of it was done by the Twilight Zone before that. Also, considering WE are considered the alien invaders, do we really want to make a movie that demonizes the more powerful civilization yet again? But hey, good to see Wyle working, though why they don't just make the Librarian as a TV show I don't know.

His production company, Amblin, produced it. Also, as I've read, he found the ER script that was originally written as a theatrical feature by Michael Crichton. He was all set to direct the movie, until he came across another of Crichton's works, a novel that was just published, titled JURASSIC PARK. So he shot JP, and made ER into a TV show.
And yeah....

...I'm one of the bigger Spielberg fans of his earlier classics, but after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Transformers 2 and the upcoming Tintin, I'm not sure I trust the stuff he puts out any longer.

I wouldn't use size as a good measure for a soldier. Case in point: Audie Murphy: Medal of Honor Distinguished Service Cross Silver Star (2) Legion of Merit Bronze Star (2) Purple Heart (3) French Legion of Honor French Croix de Guerre (+ Palm) Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 Palm This hulking behemoth was 5'5"

But I must say, his involvement in Transformers I and II, Chrystal Skull has shaken my faith. His name used to be synonymous with excellence in move making; But man... I can barely forgive him for these three stinking sacks of feces. But I have faith in ya, Steven! The premise here sounds good, now follow through and show us some of that old school Spielberg magic we all know and love!
