Joe Dante was born to direct this movie.

I just read Doyle's first novel "I Love You Beth Cooper" a couple months ago and enjoyed it. This sounds better.

RIP Ed McMahon

I think that some where there must be thousands of struggling film makers with really interesting ideas thinking, "Sheesh, and I can't get anyone to back my film!"
This sounds about as good as....

Teen adventure comedies suck. They've ALWAYS sucked. Yes, GOONIES sucked.

You know what else is tired? The recycling of "tropes" for your little children's book. This sounds like the concept imagined by a functioning illiterate who has been sleeping in Harry Potter bed-sheets for the past three years whining, "Aw, they did wizards and vampires. Now what am I gonna come up with?"

Sounds like fun.

But Gort isn't a monster or mutant. And If Gort is in it, then so should "Robby the Robot". Ahh, but there are so many cool monsters, aliens, and giant mutated creatures from the 50s-60s to choose from.

Monster Squad remake is just unacceptable!

I'm all for defending the best of remakes, but come on. That's like remaking Stand by Me or The Goonies, it's just not right. Monster Squad and Little Monsters were like my childhood films, please dont take them!

Goonies does NOT suck. Goonies is the fucking end-all be-all of Kids Adventure movies. Second, Sky High was, surprisingly, not that bad. Any movie with Kurt Russell, Bruce Campbell AND two of the KITH cannot be that bad.

And third, I love movies like this. I don't know why everyone's complaining about originality in this TB-It's based on a book, and it uses familiar characters and 'tropes', but it IS an original story.

I agree TedKordLives.

Originality arguments in talkbacks are futile. People piss and moan about remakes and there being no originality and then when a movie like this comes along they condescend themselves and say the opposite. Let them shit out of their mouths, they enjoy the taste. I just think there will be a lot of ass kissing involved in this film, to throw in all those different movie characters is a big deal. Especially when some can come from different distributors. Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Day the Earth Stood Still will always remain 2 of my all time favorite films.
Thanks Doc.

I'm hoping to see all sorts of little nods and cameos if this movie actually happens. Kinda like the Vorhees House in Jason Goes to Hell.

Can you believe I've never seen Creature from the Black Lagoon? I need to get on that, huh?

might as well

As an adult, Monster Squad doesn't really hold up for me, much as I'd like it to. Kinda slow and boring for the most part. Wow, just admitting that makes me kinda sad.

my copy of Monster Squad to some friends of mine so they could show their 15 y/o daughter along with both Bill and Ted movies, curious to hear her reaction--maybe you just had to be a certain age at a certain time to really love it

Anyone ever notice how many things were lifted from that book and turned into the Tsuburiya film?
