I believe--and someone correct me if I'm wrong--that the correct term for the firing of arrows is "loose." And I got that from watching the commentary of Lord of the Rings, of all places. I recently finished watching TB within for the first time within a span of a few days, and I have to say, it's pretty enjoyable. It certainly isn't as well-done as Supernatural, or the dialogue as well-scripted as 1st season of BSG, but the characters are very well fleshed out and seem kind of realistic. TB is good stuff.

Buffy the fricking Vampire Slayer was funnier and better written? On what fucking planet was this? Buffy was a joke, I will never, never understand why so many people stick up for it. It had some - SOME - good ideas, but it was badly acted, the writing was too fond of throwing in wink wink nudge nudge moments and Whedon was obviously so far up himself when he was writing it he had to open his mouth in order to see the word processor. True Blood beats it in ever single department - casting, acting, writing, ideas, humour. Plus, naked chicks and no David "Craptastic" Boreanz. Put Charisma Carpenter in it as a mute who has to get naked a lot and it will quite possibly be the greatest show ever. That is all.

And I have to say, if I had to wait in weekly installments, I might not have enjoyed the show as much. When the show has it's big "holy shit" moments, they're awesome, like when we finally see a staking, or how Bill became a vampire. The reveal of the killer's identity at the end of season one was, I thought a bit of a cop out as they went with someone that wouldn't really effect things too much. I was surprised by how sad I was when Jason's hippie vegan girlfriend bought it. But any show that has EB Farnum and Frank Sabotka on it is going to keep me watching for that. Well, that and Anna Paquin being naked. YOWZA.

Mostly because most shows based on books ignore the books entirely or just keep the elements that work. I like True Blood because it does follow the books and then does even better by expanding the universe to tell stories surrounding the other characters.

And I haven't seen the show yet besides the online nude and sex clips and photos (waiting to see Season 1 on DVD with my wife who's out of town at the moment), but in regards to the vampire teeth, they do look a bit silly in this, it's more like snake fangs. It took me forever to get used to the bumpy forehead thing with BUFFY and at least it's not extra long fangs like in John Carpenter's VAMPIRES where the fangs are so long it would be impossible to close your mouth. I prefer the INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE teeth myself. Subtle and more realistic. RIP Stan Winston.

i think if you are labeling this show as a "gay show" you probably just read some entertainment weekly article that compared the vampire right movement in the show to the real life gay rights movement. this show is obviously made with both sexes in mind and caters to both. the gay/vampire allegory that was played up in the early days of this show by the press (and alan balls own sexuality) isn't really present in the show at all or not in some blatant annoying way. the only gay character, Lafayette, is one of the best on the show, and on tv right now. I bet even Jack Bauer would suck his dick.

STAR TREK did the same thing, but used fu-manchu sporting aliens to represent the Soviet Union and other aliens to serve as symbols of other people among our own world. Besides, if you take TRUE BLOOD on face value alone, this take on vampires shows a more complex "villain." And that itself is more compelling than the slash and gore retreads that have dominated the horror genre.

I mostly enjoy True Blood, and continue to watch it on DVR when i get time, but for a show as fucking ridiculously campy as this, it takes itself so seriously, its hilarious. Those love scenes (not the sex and nudity) the scene where she broke in front of Bill right before they went and got it on, was maybe the worst thing ive ever seen "God...damnit....I...love you..bill compton!" So far I've read 4 reviews on the revenge of the fallen. Each of them contradicting each other. The IGN review says that the Optimus/Megatron/Starscream/Bl ackouduel is the best of the movie. While the Empire review says the same battle was lame. Also, TFW2005 has a few reviews up. All of them contradicting each other. This tells me that this movie is going to deliver. Some will like some acts better then the other ones. But overall, the criticism has been the movie's length, and to much action? When I drop 16.25 per IMAX ticket, I want the most action and length for my buck.

Alexander Woo is just too in love with the utterly boring Jason Stackhouse/Ryan Kwanten. This episode gave way too much screen time to him, and he's clearly the least compelling character on the show. Bleah. However, although he was onscreen for only a few scenes, Eric/Skarsgard was worth the time invested in this otherwise lackluster premiere - I loved the foils in his hair (hee!) and the fact that he finally took out that moronic redneck. The only other pluses about this episode were Live!Lafayette and the back story on the totally scary Maryann (Michelle Forbes has ruled everything she's been on since her days as Ensign Ro on ST: the Next Generation). I hope next week there is MORE ERIC, which means it will automatically be better.

I don't know that I would say it's a quality show, it's pretty corny and they've got this whole liberal preachy thing going on, but I enjoy watching it well enough. It's a fun show that I put on the same level as Smallville (early show), Heroes (S1), Chuck or Reaper. Anna Paquin's hotness helps a lot in the watchability department. And I'm curious to see where the Ensign Ro plotline is going. However, I could do without the brother's plotline.

I think the show is pretty entertaining. It can be corny at times and funny at others. The only thing that bugs me about the show is Bon Temps. With all the killing that goes on in that small town; why do they even go outside anymore? On a side note: True Blood starts Two years after vampires have "come out of the coffin". I wonder how the nation reacted when they made themselves known. Wouldnt there be anarchy in every city? I would picture the U.S. more like Night of the Living Dead than American Beauty if this ever happend.
