For the time, Limpit had good effects, and a pretty good story. I'm interested to see what Lima, et. al, may do with this.

At least they're going back further in time for their remakes. How many people (non movie geeks) will even realize that this is a remake? And like Quint said, this better be hand drawn animation.
I don't understand.

If you're worried about everything repeating itself, then why would you want it to be hand-drawn animation? We already have a hand-drawn Mr. Limpet. At least CGI would be something new for the property.
Why not? They've raped everything ELSE...

I'm sure they'll hire Johnny Depp to play Mister L. (because, he's so, like, HOT!), even though they should REALLY get Steve Buscemi. But who would believe Buscemi as a nebbish and nerd women would dismiss? Depp is SO much more believable...

BLEH!!! :P

And it WAS fun for the whole family...

Unless, of course, you're a bitter paranoid who thinks the military should only be shown in a BAD light. Many of us APPRECIATE films showing how great the soldiers who fight and die for your freedom are.

True, CGI would be something new from a technology standpoint. I just don't want a photo-realistic talking fish.

The best remake would be to make all the human parts of the story animated (cel or cgi) and make all the underwater stuff live action, with real sea critters.

Is there NO originality in Hollywood anymore?? First they destroy Peter Sellers' legacy in the Pink Panther movies, then the Nutty Professor tragedies, now this?! Don Knotts was one of our greatest comedic actors and made the role his. I'm sorry, but I can't see that being recreated in any positive way no matter who is directing it. And there is no way that Jim Carey can pull off what Knotts did without going over the top and ruining it. Unbelievable...

Maybe they'll get Will Farell so they'll be able to turn a G-Rated classic into an obscenity spewn F-bomb fest as we watch Disney incorporate more and more foul language into their family features every year.

..that Mr. Limpet has Matrix style 'arms free' glasses! I watched this constantly as a kid. Holy cow, when you think about it, a man falls into a completly different world, dodges procetiles that slowly come at him leaving a wake of turbulence, has powers no other has! The Matrix was the first Mr. Limpet remake!
CGI vs. 2-D
by MCVamp

Disney's in a bit of a pickle here...if you go CG, you draw inevitable comparisons to the biggest fish movie ever, NEMO. Problem is, Lasseter might poke his nose into production but this will NOT be a Pixar film. On the other hand, if you go 2-D, costs can go through the roof and even if it's not a "pure" 2-D movie (accounting for the live action) if it bombs, the 2-D renaissance evaporates before it even has a chance to get started again.
sorry, misspelled 'projectiles.'

Cast Jason Biggs in the Don Knotts role. Get Tim Story to direct. Get Timbaland to produce the soundtrack, and you got a hit. "that a boy Arthur!"

Incredible is the word -- incredibly boring. Holey shirts, what a weird, insipid movie. NOT worth a re-make, by any stretch of the imagination.

Only think it will have in common with the original is a guy turning into a fish. No Nazis, probably no military connection. Probably an eccentric fish collector becomes obsessed with collecting the rare Mr. Limpet, and Mr. Limpet ends up freeing all the rare fish who--sad in their aquarium prison--have been caught by the eccentric fish collector over the years. Also, he'll have to deal with some nasty sharks.

My Dad was a huge fan of this movie and he played it for me like six years ago, I absolutely loved it. Very cute and heart warming. Don Knotts was awesome in the role. With that said, I have no interest in seeing the new one.

... during the movie, when Limpet (of course) discovers that the enemy isn't really the "bad guy," but rather it's the very people who are putting him up to his military duties that are responsible. "Don't you SEE? IT'S ALL AMERICA'S FAULT - EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME!" Can't wait. To be written by the author of REDACTED, STOP LOSS and LIONS FOR LAMBS.

The article Quint linked to doesn't mention Disney- it's a Warner Bros. update of the film. But the article does say that it was corrected, so maybe it used to say Disney. Just FYI!
