There is no such thing as a complete disaster...not in this situation. Little kids love the characters, they could care less where those characters are. Modern times, pre-historic times...you could set the movie during the Spanish Inquisition as long as it had the characters that the little kids already loved going in.

Magically transported to King Arthur's court.

Or have Manny run into Ray Romano on the streets of New York, and inform him that he will have no career after Everybody Loves Raymond. And then Ray says, "Well, I'll just have to console myself by crying into the giant buckets of cash that I keep at my money warehouse."
Wow...totally cool idea!!!!

This development reminds me of the 2nd Toy Story film, which took an interesting turn by delving into Woody the Cowboy's celebrated past and made use of the sometime-hilarious obsessions the collectors of minutiae sometimes display. It was a brilliant sequel because it wasn't just a total rehash of what had gone before. This 4th Ice Age installment sounds similarly creative. I think it could rock to see Manny and the gang cope with a post-prehistoric world, so I'm gonna keep my eye on any reports of future developments. Never thought I'd care about an Ice Age sequel...the second one was pretty bad...

Sounds like a little like he read the story of the perfectly-preserved frozen wooly mammoth, coupled with the Ice Age 3 marketing brewing, thought of the title of what WOULD make a hi-lariious fourth parody title of an Ice Age sequel, then sent it in to AICN.

I don't blame him -- I'm just jealous. I mean th4w. TH4W. Material that good doesn't just flop out your noggin on a bi-hourly basis now, does it.

Saw the trailer in front of TERMINATOR (because the crowd going to see the movie about robots trying to wipe out humanity in a post-apocalyptic environment is the same crowd that's dying to see the animated adventures of a group of animals) and it seems they find a sort of "lost world" still inhabited by dinosaurs.

I'm not going to see it, but now you know - and knowing is half the battle.

They're going to milk this until the last drop. And none of them will be as good as TOY STORY 1&2 (and possibly 3). Although, this rumored news about Monsters, Inc. 2 being in the works does worry me a bit. I'd rather have Pixar create original stories than make sequels to movies that don't really need a sequel. Monsters, Inc., for example, had a perfect ending.

Pixar Sequels

I'd like to see more. And, we will. But the strength of Toy Story 2 suggested, to me, that Pixar has an entirely different, and extraoridinarily potent, methodology for creating sequel story lines. It built on what was there before, touched on important points without essentially repeating the plot of the original. Since Monsters, Inc. tied up so neatly, I'm atually anxious to see what kind of new, novel story they end up telling in that universe. And I'd love a sequel to The Incredibles.

Even beyond the Scrat stuff, it had a warm glow to the sharacter interactions, and the "return the baby to its tribe" MacGuffin gave it a genuine dramatic thrust. Ice Age 2 just upped the Scrat scenes and added a LOT more disgusting body-function jokes (a la Austin Powers 2), and had a less-compelling storyline. Ice Age 3 looks to be more of the same, but that trailer with the Scrat meeting the female squirrell-thingy and falling off the cliff is fucking hilarious.

The first sequel to Ice Age really sucked. There was nothing to it other than milking the audience. I suspect this third movie will be more of the same. Like Shrek, Ice Age has'nt got material or characters that can be stretched into eternity. It simply isnt built of the same cloth as the Pixar movies. That being said, and if this rumour has a bit of truth to it, it would be a fun idea to have then wake up post-humanity. Tragedies travels in circles... They could make all sorts of wisecracks about the leftovers of humanity that they find on their way etc. Hmmm now that I think of it, it could also be a really bad idea... After all its Ice Age. Not Highlander. Maybe they should just stay extinct.

Scrat thaws out of ice on the shore of a tropical island at the end of part 1 (though it isn't specified that he's actually woken up in the present day.) The short Scrat film that's included on the DVD for part 2 has Scrat discover a time machine and shoot about in time, eventually ending up in the future, where oak trees have died out (so, really, he shouldn't feature in any more movies.)
