I may or may not have given you shit for pimping Fired Up but after seeing it, I gotta man up and apologize. It had its moments. I laughed, and more than I thought I would. I'm sure the Unrated cut is even better. Nick, ECO and Adhir Kalyan all great. I was watching Current TV last week and saw ECO parody the Christian Bale Incident and it was pretty hilarious. See if you can find it on YouTube or something. Also, Indecent Proposal is great and sexy. I've always liked Demi Moore, and can't blame Ashton for turning down years of hot Hollywood ass for Ms. Moore. Plus Woody is fucking great. He still doesn't get his due as an actor. NBK, Larry Flynt, WMCJ, Cheers, etc.
I wouldn't bother with any of those.

He may get raked over the coals for LOST IN SPACE (whose problems are more script-related than anything having to do with the film's look), but JUDGMENT NIGHT, BLOWN AWAY and the Peter Sellers movie (in spite of that creepy-ass title sequence) are solid films. PREDATOR 2's pretty good, as well.

Also, I can't really speak for the other films in the Lemmon collection, but it is so great to finally have GOOD NEIGHBOR SAM on DVD. Very funny film, and that DeVol theme music will stay in your head for days.

The most exciting thing, even more than a new transfer to BluRay, is that the subtitles have been improved and expanded. My girlfriend reports that the old version had seriously deficient subtitling, a la the original release of Let the Right One In. I have no time or money but I'll be all over this one like brown on healthy rice.

A 2-hour documentary of how the Clinton Administration reacted to the first WTC bombing and all subsequent acts of terrorism. If we had daily bombings in NYC, you better bet I want Bruce Willis and a battalion of army strong shaking it down and doing whatever it takes to stop the bad guys. Profile if you need to. Torture if you need to. Terrorize them back if you need to. When we are acting in self-defense, the only moral is victory over the aggressor. Oh, and the premise behind the terrorists was more than a little faulty and is now defunct.

He handled the action in The International like a pro and kept all the tailing sequences going strong in full French Connection mode, but there was just nothing to these characters or story. He made that film way better than it should've been, but he still deserves to be getting something that's actually good on paper. Let him do this Alien or Highlander reboot or something.

One of the most surprising films of the past year. As I recall, Capone called it "a minor effort" from Clint Eastwood and was quite critical of the cast. I couldn't disagree more. I found GRAN TORINO to be one of Eastwood's best. There's a definite edge and fearlessness to his directing work here, a youthfulness. And the cast was terrific. The kid who played Thao was excellent. The crowd I watched it with wildly applauded his scene with the construction boss. I liked this film, from top to bottom.

My own experience in over a decade of marriage and one divorce: don't trust them. It's a culture of secrecy, self-interest, back-stabbing, scheming, and viciousness. Not the Koreans' fault really - if you're sandwiched between Japan and China, being alternately overrun and brutalized by one or the other for centuries on end, you learn to watch out for number 1. But it was no fun to be married to that mindset. Thank God I woke up and got out.

Jack Lemmon is hilarious in it doing an early version of a Mr. Furley middle-aged lech type character. And it was apparently a huge hit at the time, although as you mentioned Lemmon was not happy with it. If you like funny Lemmon then you can't go wrong with it. by Sal_Bando

Boys I remember that one-came out in '75 I think. They had this REALLY hokey ad campaign, where they showed the Flight 19 pilots off of FLA in '45, and show this one guy supposedly radioing in panic-Don't Come after me-they look like they're outer space! Don't come after me---!

You know that had us kids watching the skies and dark shadows for aliens for weeks after that. Never did SEE the danged thing, it's prob as bad as it seems years later.

Chariots of the Gods is dated hooey but kinda fun hooey if you get into the whole Ancient Astronaughts/Bermuda Triangle thing from the '70s, it spawned gobs of psuedo-science books and 'documentaries' in the years after.

Fun stuff though.

This is a shitty, shitty week for movie releases. Minus the Blu-Ray double dips of movies that nobody really needs to see in HD (except for maybe Predator 2) and you've got a whopping 7 new films.

Does anybody know how well the Blu-Ray format is actually doing when people are losing their jobs, their homes, their fuckin' retirements? Save for PS3 sales I'd have to venture a guess that it isn't exactly lighting any sales bonfires.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to "upgrade" to Blu with all my beloved films I already have on DVD or VHS, films I've spent years collecting, buying secondhand, and generally treasure hunting for.

But really, Fatal Attraction in Blu-Ray? Like anyone needs to see Glenn Close that um, close?

I would give it a 6.5 out of 10. But I had no idea, no clue what it was about when I saw it. It was more surprising than anything. It was just much better than it should have been. Not some kind of classic, but very memorable, fun and really, really strange. Not for everyone, which explains why the netflix "wow.. those Pirates movies.. they're the best" crowd is lukewarm on it. I wouldn't characterize it as "satifying" or "feel good", so that means about 60% of the audiences will say it sucks. I suggest going into it without reading specific reviews, if possible.

He was a racist prick all the way to the end, and the movie basically tells us that it's okay to be a bigot and a curmudgeon as long as somebody likes you.

Are worth having (even to have on as background noise) just for William Shatner's and especially Rod Serling's narrations (if I'm remebering the right movies). Now if someone would just release the Sunn 'documentaries' like the one about the Bermuda Triangle.

Preachy, with Eastwood being awesome yet predictable. The other actors in the movie did suck a whole helluva lot. The unfulfilled promise of excessive violence is a seriously annoying letdown.

The dog was cool though.

Gran Torino was a mess tonally. Totally uneven and unconvincing.

Absolutely fucking terrible movie with Eastwood delivering a career worst performance. The sneer/snort, or whatever the fuck you want to call it, is nothing short of embarrassing.

Working title is "The Human Factor". It's the true story about Madiba's release from prison and South Africa winning the '95 Rugby World Cup soon after. Morgan Freeman plays Mandela and Matt Damon plays Springbok captain Francois Pienaar. Couple of my mates worked on it. Should be a blast.

I said that Jack Lemmon's performance is worth suffering through an otherwise standard 50s/60s screwball comedy. That said, I saw the movie on TCM for free and don't think I'd recommend anyone pay a dime for a rental and certainly not a purchase. But, if you are a Lemmon fan, he's great in it so, if it happens to show up on tv it's worth your while to check it out. Have a nice day, my friend!

Absolutely. She's a talented actor of that there's no doubt but holy shit is she MAN ugly. Sorry to be shallow but this ain't the UN.

I never bought the 'cheat on Anne Archer' thing either and it wasn't like she brought in 19 year old college cheerleaders in the bedroom with her. She just had that frizzy electrode hairdo and that female version of the animated Ebeneezer Scrooge's face.

Demi Moore circa "Indecent Proposal" would have been better physically for the role (she's crazy fine in that movie) but she's no GC in terms of acting...

Perhaps they should have just had Douglas fucking Roseanne Barr or something...anything that would make the concept of actually having physical intimacy with Glenn "That's a MAN, baby!" Close.

Great actor tho...so good, after watching the movie I wonder if she's actually capable of loony shit like that in real life.

Not that it matters but....

"Perhaps they should have just had Douglas *married to* Roseanne Barr or something..."

...far more believable than cheating on Archer with Ms Scrooge.

I wouldn't cheat on Anne Archer with that shit either, but a sex addict like Michael Douglas would be less discriminating so in that respect it is believable. Think Clinton with Monica and Edwards with his ugly bitch.
