I'll tell you what though... if I were given a choice of two shows for Bryan Fuller to be working on last season -- Pushing Daisies or Heroes -- I'd definitely pick the LATTER.

One more thing... Heroes sucks.

Apart from HRG, just about everybody has a power. That'd be like if every character in Buffy had super strength or shit?

What made the Scooby Gang interesting was that they were just normal. Granted, a couple of them got juiced up later on, but Buffy was still the Head Beeyotch In Charge. Having core characters who were basically mundane somehow made her seem that much more special and the show's action that much more intense.

With Heroes, EVERY FUCKING PERSON HAS POWERS. Even uber sidekick Ando got a Hadoken. That's just lame.

Is there nor freakin' Batman, Punisher, or Hawkeye in this world? There's something a little depressing in knowing that the show suggests that only whiny superhumans, mostly from the same families, can be heroes.

In the early years, what made Marvel comics so much more different than DC was that their characters were people first and heroic icons second. That still holds true, to an extent, today.

Heroes is taking the silver age DC approach to characterization. Powers first. Personality second.

I can honestly say that I'd never expect Heroes to tackle more human issues like alcoholism, spousal abuse, or suicide - all stories based around character.

Heroes isn't a show about character. It's about caricature.

I have no doubt that Robert Knepper will turn in another cool bad guy performance, quite possibly upstaging Zachary Quinto, but I'm quickly losing hope for Heroes as a show. There was a time where I'd say, "Okay. This is just a show that you have to turn your brain off to enjoy." Now, with so much bad storytelling and shameless plot holes, I'm having far more WTF moments.

What's also killing Heroes on a storytelling level? ... ... ... Volumes.

Comics are suffering from the same artificial story arc structure. This whole "made for trade" structure makes it so that epic stories are forced to finish in a certain number of issues. It also makes it so that some very, very simple stories are dragged out for a months.

Heroes needs to have their stories evolve and conclude naturally. Forced compression or decompression is just bad storytelling.

Plus, if we want to see some really kickass fights.... FIRE THE DEAD WEIGHT. Seriously. There are too many worthless characters on this show. Dump those actors and redirect that money toward VFX and fight choreography. I'm so fucking tired of the epic fights taking place off screen. Fire some of the increasingly worthless and annoying dingleberry actors like Ali Later or Masi Oka. Give us an actual superhuman slugfest that lasts more than 30 seconds.

Heroes will never have the equivalent of a full issue brawl thank to so many worthless actors and characters sucking money out of the budget. Just look at how bad the flying effects have gotten because of the money leeching dead weight.

Because a show about superhumans can't do anything super... just cancel the fucker.

To those of you who have are disappointed with Heroes but feel trapped in a "battered relationship" with it, take my advice: Look into checking out another scripted drama series (particularly one that is only in its second or third season, so you can easily catch up) that you know would interest you, but for some reason you never made the effort to watch. Well, use not watching Heroes as your excuse and motivation to seek out other series.

Dude, you're on AICN by choice not by force. If my "PHD" was too long for you to bother to read here's a a cool solution. Simply don't read it.

Heroes could have been truly great. Instead, they chose to dwell on the one or two things that "clicked" with audiences in S1 and ran with it straight through S3. Just some examples:

- The Petrelli brothers as superhumans was cool. What do the creators do? Make everybody in the extended Petrelli family a superhuman.

- Hiro says "Ya Ta!" in one episode? Let's make him say it every other one now.

- People liked Sylar? Let's center the show around him.

- The idea of "the company" as a conspiracy plot was cool in S1. Let's make even more shadow organization in every season.

- Viewers like the super powered characters more? Let's make even the non-powered characters superhuman now.

It's stuff like that that's just blatant pandering.

On top of that, Heroes may be fun from time to time, but the writers make absolutely no effort in hiding their sources. You can see where Watchmen was ripped off. You can see Days of Future Past being liberally abused. You can only groan when they unapologetically steal from movies like The Fly.

Take on the amazing number of plot holes or deus ex machinas and you quickly reach a point where you have to scream.

Heroes can't be taken seriously as legitimate sci-fi or fantasy adventure simply because it doesn't make serious attempts. At best, it has become superhero junk food for the mass market.

It's not that people come here to hate Heroes. It's that they come here to ask questions like:

"Why won't somebody take control and focus the show?

"Why can't the writers keep things straight?"

"Where is the humanity?"

"Why can't we get a decent fight scene?"

ETC ETC ETC

There have just been so many mistakes made since the half-hearted S1 finale that people have to wonder if the show was more hype than actuality. Some stars burn brightly for years. This one went supernova in a period of months.

We're all just waiting and hoping that the show will either reclaim that S1 greatness or be put out its misery for meandering and limping along blindly.

I'll only give up on Heroes when it's canceled. I just feel that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting further away each episode. It's a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Please bring her back.

This is simply another example of the utter lameness of the show's writing and production. Tim Kring and his writers may rip off comic book plots but they do a very lousy job of it.
