I remembered reading that Carradine had suicidal thoughts and behaviors in the past, so I went and did some searching. If you go to his Wikipedia profile, you can find a link at the end of the article to an interview he did for IGN where he discusses death and suicide in some detail. and it's pretty enjoyable. How will it translate on to the screen? My guess is in-line with most of what I read up there. it is "talky" at point, but I love reading good dialogue and thoguht much of it, especially Landa's lines are really enjoyable. But I guess you have to be able to appreciate more than just blood and violence to get it. And certianly some of QT's fanbase doesn't think on that level. The thing I was most surprised with is how much of the film isn't spent showing the Basterds and their exploits against the Nazis. By the time you get to the first real showing of what the Basterds so to Nazis when they find them (and I mean not in a quick flashback), the story is half over and half of the Basterds are dead - without being show or told how they died. Nevertheless, what's there is well written and there's sure to be a few memorable scenes, even if this film doesn't get the popularity that Kill Bill did (this one may be "smarter" than KB, though with somewhat more restrained violence.) Just my 1.5 cents.

and Death Proof sucked. Period. There are a few of directors whom I trust and will see pretty much anything they do. At the top at that list are PT Anderson, the Coens, Nolan, and Scorsese. But just because I'm first in line to see everything they do doesn't mean that I can't acknowledge when they screw up (Intolerable Cruelty, Gangs Of NY - PT hasn't made enough movies to have one stick out as bad, although Punch Drunk Love was a bit hard to take). What pisses me off is that QT acolytes will not admit that their hero is as human as any other director. The only things worse are Whedonites and Cameron fans.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Well, Time magazine's Cannes' article spoiled the ending right in the damn title so I haven't been avoiding the spoilers since. After reading Fuschia's spoiler it sounds like a change has been made to the fate of a particular historical figure. The change appears to be from being killed in a fire/explosion as per this review and other allusions from Cannes: http://www.themoviespoiler.com /Spoilers/basterds.html to being shot in the face with a machine gun. That sounds like a horrible change and was probably something like Eli Roth saying "Hey Quentin, wouldn't it be cool if I got to empty a machine gun into his face?" Yeah let's do it! Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it as an alternate ending special feature on the DVD but it comes off really immature and really stretching it... The ending described at movie spoiler site sounds much much better and more in keeping with the flow of a men on a mission movie. Killing him in the fire with all the other high ranking officials seems to fit better with the overall flow of the movie. I haven't seen the film yet so can't comment on the context but I DO NOT like the addition of the change to that character's fate. While I'm sure it will test well it really seems overkill... I'm guessing that he felt killing him was not enough for such an infamous figure and that he needed to be dispatched in a more visceral manner... Dead is Dead and should provide enough satisfaction when the moment occurs and surprises everyone with a bit of alternate history. Also Shosanna is a Jew so he is still being killed by a Jew and her plan so it doesn't harm the revenge fantasy aspect and avoids the lowest common denominator effect that a machine gun to the face has. Also dispatching him in such a way somewhat diminishes the effect of Shosanna's plan and the reel she attached to the end of the propaganda film. From the sound of it that scene would be a deal breaker for me and make this one of those movies that is absolutely great save for one scene. I hope Quentin steps back a bit to view the film in a broader scope and not simply due to the influence of those close to him. They got to act out that scene and vicariously graphically have their revenge but keep it as a deleted scene to include on the dvd or tack it on to the end of the credits as an easter egg. you have every right to voice you opinion, man. i'm not trying to stop the hate...just hating the hate. i could give a rat's ass less about clash of the titans...i just thought it was stupid for anybody to bash it from just one picture. don't you think that's just hating for hate's sake? it's this "i'm so indie i hate all studio movies" mentality...people think they sound smarter when they don't like a movie for some reason. like i said...movies are supposed to be a fun, escape from reality. not every film is supposed to be a life changing experience. i happen to like tarantino's movies. some of them are great, some are ok, but i like his style so i've found a way to at least be entertained by all of them. i like the concept of basterds and i'm looking forward to it. just my opinion.

who blindly adore everything Tarantino does. As for Clash Of The Titans, we're not just basing it on the photo, but on the synopsis, which suggests that they took everything fun from the original and just squashed it. And we're basing our skepticism about Basterds on actually reading the screenplay, which is frankly pretty terrible.

At a time when we're examining the torture of alleged terrorists, I find that more than a little disturbing. Is it too big a stretch to think that some soldiers in our current conflict might get some ideas from this movie?

The thing is, a lot of people (especially those who write for this site) forget that so-called movie geeks spend a good portion of their disposable income on this stuff, and when we hear incessantly that such-and-such a movie is going to be "awesome," we feel a little cynical because we've been burned before. For me, the drumbeating for Watchmen (in particular Hayter's self-serving "open letter") was the last straw. If something looks lame, I'm not going to hold my tongue. I could be pleasantly surprised, but it's an uphill battle at this point.
